Kylo Ren’s State of Mind in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Kylo Ren fought hard to embrace the Dark Side in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, not only wanting to impress his boss, Supreme Leader Snoke, but also to better represent the legacy of his hero (and grandfather) Darth Vader.

That's why Kylo Ren went as far as to kill his own father to cut off all ties to his goodness, though anyone who is having that much trouble sticking to evil ways probably won't find it easy to wrap his mind around doing something so terrible and permanent. When we had the chance to speak with actor Adam Driver, we asked him how his character is wrestling with his murder of Han Solo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

"It's because it's starting so soon after The Force Awakens, there hasn't been really a lot of time to reflect or process it. Things, it's hard to say so far if they're going according to plan. I don't think he's expecting to feel the way he does," said Driver.

Tera on PS4 Feels More Like Devil May Cry than World of Warcraft

Bringing an MMO to consoles on a controller is always a tricky task, but I was amazed at how much Tera felt right at home when I played it on PS4 Pro this week.

The free-to-play online RPG plays more like an action game than most of its MMO competition, relying on actual timing, dodging, and aim over damage dice rolls. It makes Tera feel closer to Devil May Cry than World of Warcraft, and as a result fits on a gamepad almost naturally.

But making it seem like a simple translation sells short the work developer Bluehole and publisher En Masse had to do to get it feeling this slick. The menus and UI have been completely rebuilt, designed to take advantage of the shoulder buttons and make text boxes more legible when read from your couch across the room.

Mads Mikkelsen on Unexplored Potential of Rogue One’s Galen Erso

As the unwilling architect of the Death Star and estranged father to Jyn Erso, Galen Erso is one of the Star Wars franchise’s more complex supporting characters. Reflecting on the role, Rogue One actor Mads Mikkelsen told IGN Japan that he feels Galen still has unexplored depths.

“We don’t see him a lot (in Rogue One); we get a feel of him,” Mikkelsen said. “Obviously you could elaborate on a character like that for his own movie. The story (of Rogue One) is about his daughter, and for that reason he plays a sidekick in her life. If he had his own film it would be different.”

Mikkelsen, who also recently spoke about wanting to play Spider-Man and his role in Death Stranding, explained that the richness of the Star Wars universe allows scope for even more stories, and that he senses a particular interest in exploring day-to-day life for ordinary folk under the Empire.

Tarantino Wants An R-Rated Star Trek Movie

Following reports earlier this week that Quentin Tarantino has pitched an idea for a Star Trek movie to JJ Abrams, developments are rattling along at some speed, with Deadline indicating that Tarantino has already met with a writers' room in preparation for directing a new installment, with Abrams producing.

A key requirement from Tarantino is that he's allowed to make the movie with an R rating and this has apparently been agreed by Paramount execs, despite the previous three films in the rebooted series coming in at PG-13.

Jack Black Will Be in Psychonauts 2

Jack Black revealed he'll be in Psychonauts 2 at The Game Awards.

During a Jumanji segment, Black said he's "good pals" with Double Fine's Tim Schafer and listed Psychonauts 2 as a game he's involved with, though he didn't elaborate on his role. Black voiced characters in Brutal Legend and Broken Age.

Psychonauts 2 was first announced in 2015 and is slated for release sometime in 2018.

A Way Out Dev on EA: ‘All Publishers F*** Up Sometimes’

Josef Fares, creator of A Way Out and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, went off-script during his The Game Awards appearance, briefly addressing his relationship with EA and the controversy surrounding the company's recent microtransaction decisions.

Fares made it clear how much A Way Out is the game he wanted to make, unrestricted by publisher hindrances.

"This is my idea, doesn't have anything with the EA shit going on, with the loot box and stuff," Fares said, specifically in regard to the idea of giving players the chance to play A Way Out online with a friend with only one copy of the game.

"EA has been very good to me, and to be honest with you, because it's nice to hate EA...All publishers f*** up sometimes, that's how it is," he said. "In this case, they've been treating me very well. I have 100 percent of the income to my team for the game."
