Captain Marvel’s Skrulls Explained

Note: With Captain Marvel hitting theaters this weekend, we figured it was time to freshen up on the history of the Skrulls once more. This story has been updated accordingly but is SPOILER-FREE for the movie.

The Captain Marvel movie will include several firsts for the MCU, like being set in the '90s and featuring a two-eyed Nick Fury. Perhaps the most notable new development, however, is the inclusion of the Skrulls in the film. And they'll be led by Ben Mendelsohn, no less!

Why Skurge Betrays Thor for Hela in Thor: Ragnarok

The new trailer for Thor: Ragnarok that Marvel Studios debuted this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con offered a glimpse at Karl Urban's Skurge, who's seen allied with Cate Blanchett's Hela. IGN spoke with Urban about his role and why Skurge betrays Chris Hemsworth's Thor to side with the Asgardian goddess of death.

"When we find Skurge, he's operating the Bifrost because Heimdall is missing in action, and then pretty soon after that Hela shows up," Urban told IGN. "Skurge sees the writing on the wall and has to make a decision whether to die or join her, so his instincts of self-preservation take over."
