Alex Garland’s 4 Biggest Sci-Fi Influences

The new trailer for Ex Machina director Alex Garland's second film, Annihilation, just dropped - it's nuts. We love the look of it despite having no idea what's going on in this weird, dreamy sci-fi thriller starring Natalie Portman and one of our 2017 favourites, Tessa Thompson.

We got some time with Garland, whose directorial debut Ex Machina made us question our own existence at the same time as marvelling at Oscar Isaac's incredible dance moves.

He revealed the 4 biggest sci-fi influences on his work across movies, comics and grown-up books.

Nintendo Looking to Partner with More Mobile Developers

Nintendo is reportedly looking to expand its mobile operations beyond its current partnership with DeNA by working with more mobile developers, in the hopes of "raising the pace" of new mobile titles after last year's mobile revenue "fell short of expectations".

As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo's original intention was to produce five smartphone games with DeNA by March 2017, after it bought a 10% stake in the company back in 2015. As of right now it has only introduced four, after Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp launched last month.

Netflix & Dreamworks Partnering for Six New Shows

Netflix and Dreamworks have announced, via a press release, that they are partnering to bring a slate of six animated shows to the streaming platform in 2018, with some inspired by Dreamworks movies (such as 2017's The Boss Baby), as well as an updated version of '80s cult classic She-Ra: Princess of Power.

The She-Ra news is one of the most standout announcements in the list, particularly for anyone who grew up in the '80s. Starring He-Man's twin sister Princess Adora - who uses the Sword of Protection to become She-Ra, Princess of Power and defend the planet Etheria from the evil Hordak - the original series was intended to appeal to young girls the same way He-Man appealed to young boys. She-Ra has been largely absent from He-Man lore since the cancellation of her series, although she has appeared in DC Comics' various He-Man books.

Overwatch Update Adds In-Game Notification for Bans

The battle against toxicity in Overwatch continues to rage on, but players can expect to see some improvements to the player report system with today’s Winter Wonderland Event patch. According to Overwatch’s latest patch notes, players that have reported someone for toxic behavior will receive an in-game notification when the report results in a ban.

Players will also be notified in-game if they have been reported, and a warning may also be sent if the illicit behavior continues. If the issue is serious enough, however, there may be no warning at all before a silence, suspension, or permanent ban takes place.

After producing detailed evaluations of all the popular streaming boxes on the market, we have determined the best streaming box is the Nvidia TV Shield. It's more expensive than most of the others, but it's worth it. It has support for all the major streaming platforms (except iTunes ), and even lets Nvidia GPU owners seamlessly stream games to their TV. Plus, with the brewing streaming war between Amazon, Google, and Apple, the Shield is a safe pick, as it remains an agnostic platform to stream whatever you want, with a much better interface than the similarly platform-neutral Roku Ultra.

The Predator Is Coming to Ghost Recon Wildlands

Proving 2017 has at least one more surprise left in it, Ubisoft has just revealed a new special event for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands, teasing a legendary cameo in the process: The Predator.

The Predator doesn’t feature overtly in the trailer but Ubisoft isn’t exactly being subtle about it. The skinned bodies, the iconic Predator growl, the font – it can only mean one thing: Ubisoft has cooked up a story and it’s about to drop us into the meatgrinder.

The upcoming event is called “The Hunt”, and Ubisoft will be unveiling a first glimpse of it at twitch.tv/ubisoft at noon EST on December 13 (9am PST, 5pm GMT, 4am AEST December 14). The Hunt will arrive in-game on December 14.
