Majora’s Mask Perfectly Captures An Entire Generation’s Anxieties
As Link approaches Ikana Canyon in the build-up to the penultimate act of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, one barely-noticeable NPC ironically sticks out. Shiro is a Clock Town Soldier – far from home, invisible to anyone that passes him, and desperate to carve out the effervescent personality that he so solemnly believes he lacks.
“I'm shocked. You're the first person who's ever spoken to me,” Shiro tells Link when he looks through the Lens of Truth. “I've been here for many years, waving my arms around and asking for help, but everyone ignores me and passes me by. It's 'cause I'm about as impressive as a stone, right? ...I'm used to it, though."
The Zelda series – in spite of its save-the-princess plot and regular forays into colorful wackiness – is no stranger to darkness. After being manipulated into maniacal delusions by Ganondorf, Twilight Princess’s tragic anti-hero Zant appears to commit suicide at the game’s conclusion. Beneath its cartoon facade, The Wind Waker is premised on the divine flooding and subsequent near-total annihilation of Hyrule. Ocarina of Time features one of the series’ few on-screen NPC deaths (an easy-to-miss Hyrulean Soldier with an uncanny resemblance to Majora’s Mask’s Shiro).

Spider-Geddon Shocks With a Lethal Opener
The opening chapter of Marvel’s Spider-Geddon event mini-series saw the heroes suffer devastating losses.
Warning: beware spoilers for Spider-Geddon #1 by Christos Gage, Dan Slott and Jorge Molina!
The villainous Inheritors of Spider-Verse made a shocking return and took the lives of two spider-characters in the process.
The blame rests squarely on Otto Octavius aka the Superior Octopus, who in a bid to become immortal combined the technology of the Jackal and the Inheritors to create supply of clones for him to transfer his mind into should his current body perish. However, the Inheritors were able to secretly access their cloning tech in his lab to respawn their bodies, essentially allowing them to escape the prison they found themselves in at the end of Spider-Verse.

The Haunting of Hill House
Mike Flanagan's adaptation of the Shirley Jackson novel The Haunting of Hill House instantly became one of those must-binge Netflix series, imbibing a dark and deep family drama with outright horror. The show is as much about the ghosts that haunt the Crain family as it is their equally haunting past, smartly skimping on the gore in favor of psychological blood and guts that delve into the adult lives of the family’s children and how their time in the house helped to make them the men and women that they are today. For better or worse.

PSN Name Changes Are Coming, But There Are Some Issues
PlayStation finally made an announcement PS3 and PS4 owners have been waiting for for years — the ability to change PSN names.
Of course, with the announcement of PSN name changes coming for all users early next year, there are some caveats to that experience. To break down what that all means, Beyond host Jonathon Dornbush and Beyond producer Barrett Courtney explore what this huge shift actually means.
Among those lingering questions and issues is that not all games will support the name change adjustment. Only games released after April 1, 2018 are guaranteed to work with the name change, while a selection of other games — to be revealed later — will work with it. PlayStation has also noted very specifically that not all PS4, PS3, and Vita games and applications will work with this process.
