Metal Gear Movie Gets a New Screenwriter

Remember the Metal Gear Solid movie announced in 2012? Well it's apparently still happening, and it has a new screenwriter!

Deadline reports that up-and-coming British writer Jay Basu has been hired by Sony Pictures to pen the film, helmed by The Kings of Summer directer Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Basu's most prolific credit to date is as a co-writer on last year's Monsters: Dark Continent, but he's nonetheless in demand - Universal tapped him last year for their classic monster movie relaunch.

News on the Metal Gear movie front has been worryingly quiet of late, so at least this confirms the project is still going ahead. Last year, Deadline reported it was taking a while to get the studio and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima on the same page regarding the direction of the flick.

Two Astronauts Begin One-Year Stay on ISS

The US and Russian space agencies have each sent one astronaut to the International Space Station for a one year stay in the hopes of determining the viability of a manned mission to Mars.

Scott Kelly and Mikhail Kornienko lifted off from Kazakhstan on Friday in a Soyuz spacecraft, joined by Gennady Padalka who will spend a regular six month shift on the ISS. The mission is to determine the effects of a long-term stay in near earth orbit before governments or private companies begin sending astronauts to the red planet.

While on the spacecraft, Kelly and Kernienko will perform regular fitness tests to see what effect space is having on their bodies, while on the ground Kelly's twin brother will undergo comparitive tests like giving blood and psychological evaluations to make it easier to establish how each person's body is changing in their respective environments.
