New DC Figurines: Darker Batman, Superman

DC Collectibles has released images of the three Justice League: Gods & Monsters set to release later this year.

Toy News International reports they're releasing as tie-ins with the upcoming DVD and Blu-Ray movie of the same name, in which Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman exist as re-imagined heroes in a darker, more ominous alternate universe.

Each standing 7" tall with detachable hands, the figures are made in the likeness of the characters from the movie. Batman also includes an unmasked head, while Wonder Woman has the ability to brandish her sword.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 May Have a Different Title

A recent listing suggests Guardians of the Galaxy 2 may have a different title.

Film and television magazine Production Weekly lists the sequel as "Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (aka Guardians 3000)" in its current issue. The magazine is a reliable source for the latest in production news on upcoming films and television, but it should be noted that production names aren't always the final title of the film.

It also correlates with Marvel's Guardians 3000 comic that debuted in 2014. If Guardians 3000 is the film's final title, it may suggest some of or all of the other guardians featured in 3000 will be joining with Drax, Star Lord, Rocket, Groot, and Gamora.

BB-8, Sphero Is Your Father

At the Star Wars Celebration 2015, a small start-up called Sphero got a big shout-out for their contributions towards creating BB-8, the newest droid to join the Star Wars universe. In an interview with Fortune, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who took over for company founder George Lucas in 2012, mentioned that the technology that makes BB-8 tick was created by the Boulder, Colorado-based company.

Walt Disney CEO, Bob Iger, whose media empire bought Star Wars creator Lucasfilms for $4.05 billion USD in 2012, is credited with discovering the tech start-up. Sphero was selected to be one of ten companies to receive support from Disney's accelerator program. Disney uses this three-month-long program to select tech start-ups who want to “make an impact on the world of media and entertainment.” The chosen teams are given funds up to $120,000. Each start-up also gets paired up with a mentor from within Disney’s executive ranks and Sphero got none other than Bob Iger himself.
