Nintendo’s Latest Direct Focusing on Xenoblade Chronicles X

Nintendo of America has annouced a Nintendo Direct focusing on Xenoblade Chronicles X will take place tomorrow.

Confirmed for North America, the Nintendo Direct will happen on Friday, April 24, at 11am PT / 2pm ET.

After the Nintendo Direct, there will also be a Nintendo Treehouse: Live presentation with a focus on Xenoblade Chronicles X gameplay. This will feature folks from Nintendo of America traversing the planet of Mira, engaging alien creatures, and hopping in and out of mechs known as "Dolls."

Xenoblade Chronicles X is being released in Japan on April 29, but there still has been no word of when the game will come out in other regions. Our best clue so far is from Amazon Italy, which recently listed the game for a June 26 release date. We don't specifically know what'll be annouced, but it is possible that Nintendo will officially reveal a release date during the Direct.

This Week in the Nintendo eShop

It's a Mario Kart kind of week on the Wii U eShop, with the new Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack and 200CC update launching alongside the DS Virtual Console release of Mario Kart DS. Aside from that, the other big release this week is Cube Creator 3D, a Minecraft-like game on the 3DS. With only three total new releases this week, Nintendo seems to be saying to the world: "Hey, how about you play some Mario Kart?"

Cube Creator 3D ($4.99)

While seemingly every other platform in the world already has Minecraft, the 3DS does not. And it still doesn't, but Cube Creator 3D, from 3DS regulars Big John Games, promises to bring the creative crafting and survival reminiscent of Minecraft to the two-screened system. Cube Creator 3D features a Creative Mode and a Survival Mode, as well as touch screen controls and stereoscopic 3D. Also, it's only $4.99 for a limited time before it reverts to a higher price.

New Mad Max Trailer Offers A Load Of Gameplay Details

A new trailer for Warner Bros.’ forthcoming Mad Max game has shed some light on how gameplay works.

Players will start the game with nothing other than their will to survive. Their first task, according to the trailer, is to build a new car; the Magnum Opus, which can be upgraded with items found throughout the wasteland to improve qualities like how well the car rams other cars, reducing the ferocity of impact from other vehicles, vehicle speed, and so on.

In a similar vein, players can also use items to craft and fortify armour, again adding boosts and tweaks like how much ammo is found when looting or how many hits Max can take before dying. Ammo is said to be limited, but players can find and create a host of makeshift weaponry.

Joss Whedon on Why a Planet Hulk Movie Might Not Work

Joss Whedon had been talking about the difficulties involved in making a standalone Hulk movie, and explained why he doesn’t think that a Planet Hulk movie will necessarily work.

Whedon is currently busy doing the press rounds for Avengers: Age of Ultron, and when IGN grabbed a few minutes with him, we kicked off by asking about the journey that the character goes on in the movie.

“I always think that there are basically two Hulks” Whedon explained. “There’s horror movie Hulk and superhero movie Hulk. In the first film we got a taste of both and it really has to do with Banner’s attitude about who he is when he turns into the Hulk. And since the movie begins with the team together, the first thing we see is superhero Hulk, who has a level of cogency that makes him still useful and he isn’t just swatting things madly. But then, once the Scarlet Witch gets done with him, we get to see a vision of him that we have never seen before where he is completely out of control. And also clearly in a lot of pain. It was kind of beautiful to be able to go that far with him.”

Codemasters Announces Overlord Fellowship of Evil

Codemasters has announced Overlord: Fellowship of Evil.

This time, following the death of the previous Overlord, players will take on the role of one of the four Netherghūls; undead servants of the dark arts hell-bent on reclaiming a world swallowed by the forces of good.

It’ll also feature local and online co-op. In keeping with the evil theme of the Overlord series, we’re told there will be ways in which players can shaft their teammates.

Although varying from the original Overlord formula, Fellowship of Evil is staying true to its roots. Marc Silk reprises his role of Gnarl, the wise old minion master, and heading up the writing side of things is the insanely talented Rhianna Pratchett, who penned the original scripts for both Overlord and Overlord 2.
