Left Alive Is Set in the Front Mission Universe
Square Enix's new survival action shooter Left Alive is set in the Front Mission universe.
As confirmed by Weekly Famitsu (translation via Gematsu), Left Alive uses the same world of the Front Mission series and takes place between the tactical RPG series' fifth entry and Front Mission Evolved in the year 2127.
“We wanted to make a Front Mission with a new lineup. We started this new title to see Front Mission in a slightly different perspective," said producer Shinji Hashimoto.

Sean Penn to Star in Hulu’s Mars Series The First
Sean Penn is set to star in his first regular TV role for a new Hulu series.
Variety reports Penn will play the main role in The First, a series from Beau Willimon that's set in the near future and follows the first human mission to Mars. The First promises to explore the different challenges associated with attempting interplanetary colonization.

Details about Penn's character are currently unknown. Penn's acting career spans a wide array of films, including Mystic River, Milk, I Am Sam and The Gunman. While he's also appeared on various shows, like Friends and Two and a Half Men, The First will be the actor's first recurring leading role on a series.
Phil Spencer Joins Microsoft’s Senior Leadership Team
Phil Spencer has been added to Microsoft's Senior Leadership Team, a group of the company's top internal advisors, CEO Satya Nadella announced yesterday.
According to ZDNet, as part of the move, Spencer has also received a new job title; he will now officially serve as Microsoft's executive vice president of gaming.
Spencer took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the announcement, saying it's a "great show of commitment" by Microsoft to its gaming division.
Terminator: Linda Hamilton Will Return for New Film
Linda Hamilton, who starred as Sarah Connor in the original 1984 The Terminator and the 1991 sequel Terminator 2: Judgement Day, will return for James Cameron's new installment in the sci-fi film franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cameron shared the news at a private event to celebrate the Terminator series, expressing his desire to make a statement on gender roles in action films.

Square Enix Hiring for Nier-related Project
I appears Nier fans may have more content to look forward to, as Square Enix is looking to bring on new talent for "planning work" and "product scenario creation" related to the franchise.
As reported by Hachima Kikou (translation via Gematsu), Square Enix is hiring for someone to handle sub-quest plots and scenario framing, as well as writing item descriptions and design instructions for in-game use.
Sonic Forces: Your Custom Character Can’t Be as Cool as Sonic
The upcoming Sonic Forces features a new mode that allows players to become a hero of the game with a custom avatar, but the development team’s approach to the character creator is more simplistic.
As previously announced by Sega, players can choose one of seven animal archetypes to customize for their Hero Character. Sonic Forces Producer Shun Nakamura said, with the help of a translator, that the creator isn’t anywhere near as complex as something like Fallout, but said players will instead get to pick from set characteristics, kind of like a doll maker.
“What the team wanted to have people do is create a regular character that exists in the world and have that character go on this great adventure with classic and modern Sonic and become a hero,” Nakamura said.
Super Mario Odyssey Feels Like It’s Taking Cues from Zelda
Nintendo’s made no secret of the fact that it’s trying to recreate the delights of Mario 64 with Odyssey - but it’s invoking a less obvious influence alongside that Nintendo classic.
The more recent 3D Mario games - Galaxies 1 and 2, and 3D World - have tended to prize challenge, creating short gauntlets themed around occasionally genre-defining design (often throwing those ideas away as soon as they’re done, because there’s something new to concentrate on). Odyssey is not that kind of game. Leisurely, surprising and outwardly comedic (this already feels like the funniest mainline Mario game), Mario’s latest truly is a return to the sandbox style last seen on GameCube.
