MechWarrior 5 Release Set for Late 2018
At MechCon tonight, developer Piranha Games announced that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will release in December 2018.
It's been 17 years since MechWarrior 4, making this one hotly anticipated. Piranha told us that MechWarrior Online fans have been waiting for an exclusively single player experience, and that they want this game to fill that role.
In the campaign, you will take command of a mercenary crew, picking randomized missions across different planets while also following a main quest line as you improve your team.
I got a chance to play an early version of MechWarrior 5 at MechCon, so keep an eye on IGN early next week for my hands-on impressions.

." He said, like Uncharted 4, they wanted to raise the stakes for The Last of Us, Part II, but unlike Nathan Drake's latest adventure, The Last of Us is far less lighthearted.
From Software’s Teaser: 4 Theories on What the Game Is
After releasing an eerie 30 second teaser during Thursday night’s Video Game Awards, FromSoftware quickly drummed up fan speculation as to what their next game might be. While Hidetaka Miyazaki, President of From and all around Souls guru, has stated multiple times that he’s uninterested in revisiting the Souls series for the time being, that doesn’t necessarily rule it out entirely.
Here are our best guesses as to what “Shadows Die Twice.” might actually be pointing to.
CHECK OUT THE TEASER ABOVE BEFORE MOVING ON.
Remember Shadow Tower? Of course you don’t. That’s because Shadow Tower is the deepest of deep cuts. This first-person fantasy RPG was released way back in 1998 for the original Playstation, and while Japan got a PS2 sequel (Shadow Tower Abyss), the series wasn’t exactly a hit stateside. It’s a methodical, decidedly bland dungeon crawler that featured no music, and tough as nails enemies. So, if we’re looking at torture device in From’s latest teaser, maybe they’re taking a metaphorical approach and we just might be getting a new entry in an old franchise.
Sucker Punch on Ghost of Tsushima Story and Inspiration
Today at PSX 2017, Sucker Punch discussed its upcoming PlayStation 4 game Ghost of Tsushima.
During a panel, hosted by IGN's Brian Altano, creative director Nate Fox, along with art director Jason Connell, animation director Billy Harper, and associate producer Ryuhei Katami shed light on the creation of the stunning reveal trailer that was shown in October at Paris Games Week.
Harper said he thinks the biggest challenge in crafting the trailer was "trying to find the voice of each character," noting "one of the largest characters is the world." Katami noted that they had a team in Japan who helped to make sure the trailer's "representation is respective to the Japanese culture."

Death Stranding: Everything You Missed in the New Trailer
The new Death Stranding trailer may have left you more confused than you were before about the upcoming game from Kojima Productions, but there are actually a lot of interesting details to dig into. Some shed more light on the state of the world Hideo Kojima has created, while others may hint at possible gameplay elements. Let’s dive in.
The first thing we see is a patch of vegetation rapidly growing and dying, as Norman Reedus’ character — who we later learn is named Sam — explains the course of the world. He mentions an explosion which gave birth to time, space, and life as we know it, an obvious reference to the scientific Big Bang theory. Later in the trailer, he mentions the “next explosion,” an “explosion that will be our last.”
Breath of the Wild Almost Had Dual Hookshots With Movement ‘Like Spider-Man’
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild features nods to many classic Zelda games, but one fan-favorite item is noticeably absent: the hookshot. While the developers of Breath of the Wild have spoken briefly about the hookshot’s absence in the past, we sat down with them in an interview following The Game Awards to ask exactly why it didn’t make the cut.
“We did consider using
to climb, and then you’d parasail down,” series producer Eiji Aonuma told IGN. “But initially when we had the hookshot
, it was always that you target something, and that was a game mechanic of itself. But that kind of defeated the purpose of what we wanted to accomplish in Breath of the Wild. With the hookshot, we always had to give it towards the end of the game, or else players could just go anywhere. But in this game, you could do that by climbing and parasailing.”
