A Look at PlatinumGames’ Next Action RPG

Last year’s Nier: Automata showed that Japanese developer PlatinumGames – known for creating exhilarating action games like Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance – is the perfect studio to hand over an action RPG project to. Currently, Platinum is working on Granblue Fantasy: Project Re:Link (tentative title), a PS4 exclusive action RPG based on Cygames’ mobile RPG Granblue Fantasy, which has a huge following in Japan. Platinum’s involvement makes this a game to keep an eye on even if you are not familiar with the franchise.

Cygames released gameplay footage of the game earlier this week, which shows the town and boss battle that were revealed during a livestream in December, but at a much higher resolution.

Devs Say Games Sell as Well or Better on Nintendo Switch

According to the State of the Game Industry report put out by the Game Developers Conference, Switch's powerful console sales are helping software sales, too.

The majority of respondents to the question "have Switch game sales compared to the average across all the platforms you've launched on" answered sales have been average or greater than average, with only 16% saying sales were less than average.

Developers are also "overwhelmingly confident" Switch is going to outpace Wii U's lifetime sales. Last year, 50% of respondents believed the Switch would surpass Wii U's performance, and this year that number jumped to 73%. Nintendo Switch has surpassed Wii U lifetime sales already in Japan, so it's almost a foregone conclusion at this point.

Black Panther: Erik Killmonger Is a Revolutionary

Last year on the set of Marvel’s Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan sat in a studio in Atlanta filled with journalists from across the country. Jordan was very aware of the limitations on how much he could reveal about the film and his character, Erik Killmonger, but still did his best to give everyone a glimpse into his role in the film.

“I feel like Killmonger ... is very selfless," Jordan said. "I think he's always looked at the bigger picture, since he was really young. Which is why he's a great thinker, and a great strategist, because he's had time to look at the big picture and try to figure it out. And, to the best of his ability, I feel like he figured out. it makes sense to him.”

Anthem Reportedly Pushed to Early 2019

BioWare is reportedly focusing the majority of its team from both its Edmonton and Austin studios into its upcoming game Anthem, an online, open-world multiplayer action RPG announced at E3 2017.

According to a report from Kotaku, sources close to Anthem place its release date closer to early 2019, citing the "Fall 2018" release window as unrealistic. Pressure to launch before the end of EA's 2019 fiscal year makes a delay beyond March 2019 less likely, sources told Kotaku. IGN has reached out to EA for further comment.

Warning: this article contains spoilers for Doomsday Clock #3!

Doomsday Clock #2 ended with the new Rorschach (now displaced from his own universe along with Ozymandias, Marionette and Mime) sneaking into the Batcave and introducing himself to Batman. Batman, naturally, was less than enthused about his uninvited guest, but he agreed to read the diary of the late Walter Kovacs and learn more about the threat facing the DC Universe.
