Elite: Dangerous Odyssey Doesn’t Mean Frontier Is Finished with Elite’s Space Exploration

Elite: Dangerous' Odyssey expansion is the primary focus for developer Frontier right now, but the game's space exploration core is "by no means done" - although Frontier hopes that if you didn't enjoy the space content, you might come in to play with Odyssey's new offerings anyway. The major 2021 expansion - which will let players land on, explore and shoot one another across many of the planets in the game's simulated galaxy - is taking up much of the developer's time right now, but it doesn't mark the end of updates to the version of Elite: Dangerous we already have. "We definitely have to focus in order to get the experience on foot to be as good as we want it to be," said game designer Luke Betterton to IGN. "It needs a similar level of focus to what we've previously given our in space content - and that's obviously had many, many years. But [space content] is by no means done. This is an expansion to the existing game. It's not a case of: 'You've had this one and now we're going to give you that one and we're just going to move that way.'" [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=elite-dangerous-odyssey-expansion-10-screenshots-and-art-images&captions=true"] Key to that idea is in how Odyssey is designed not to sit alongside the core game as a separate piece, but within it: "The Odyssey experience is going to go pretty much hand-in-hand with the existing experience," Betterton continues. "You'll be able to fly around, you'll be able to step out of your ship, you'll be able to do things that are on foot and then just hop back in your ship and continue an experience that is fairly seamless." However, while Odyssey aims to fit within Elite's structure, allowing you to extend the usual offerings of exploration, combat, and trade, it's being designed to feel like an entirely new activity, from collecting samples of undiscovered flora, to turning the usual strategic spacefighting into what looks like more frenetic on-foot firefights. Frontier hopes that means Elite's appeal will broaden along with the gameplay: "It's about making Elite, as a kind of simulation and game experience, just so much more full," explains Betterton." There is more to do at every single moment. And if you perhaps didn't find something in the original version of Elite - because you're not that into spaceships perhaps - you can do all of the on-foot stuff regardless. It will allow all those people to actually find something in Elite that they necessarily didn't have before." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/18/elite-dangerous-odyssey-expansion-dev-diary-1"] Elite: Dangerous - Odyssey will launch in early 2021, and will include full planets to land on, as well as contracts that allow for diplomacy, commerce, lethal stealth, and all-out combat. There will be "diverse settings, objectives, and NPCs" that offer "endless mission variety and a near infinite amount of content to enjoy." Space Jam 2: Get a Look at LeBron James in His Tune Squad Jersey

LeBron James has given fans a sneak peek of the Tune Squad jersey that he'll be wearing in Space Jam: A New Legacy. The Twitter account for the LeBron James Family Foundation unveiled a first look of the NBA star suited up in the new uniform, which he will be showcasing out on the basketball court in Space Jam 2. The colourful jersey sports the iconic Looney Tunes concentric circles, wrapping around the side of the uniform, set against a powder blue backdrop with orange trim. It also features the "Tune Squad" team logo together with the individual player's number. LeBron famously wore the No. 6 jersey during his run with the Miami Heat and the USA National Team. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/03/27/star-trek-discoverys-sonequa-martin-green-joins-space-jam"] This reveal comes shortly after LeBron, who is teaming up with the Looney Tunes for more basketball-based hijinks in the forthcoming follow-up, posted a video of him wearing a black hat emblazoned with the sequel's logo, which pays homage to the original Michael Jordan-starring movie, with a similar circular pattern wrapped around the title's cosmic-style text. With more and more teasers being posted for the animated/live-action mash-up, Space Jam: A New Legacy appears to be on schedule to slam-dunk its July 16, 2021 release date despite all of the other recent shifts, shake-ups, and delays in the film industry that have occurred as a result of the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Fall Guys: Ninja Skin Announced After Streamer Wins Charity Auction

Update: After almost two weeks Fall Guys' charity auction for a new skin has ended, and a joint donation of $1 million between G2 Esports, Aim Lab, and Streamers Ninja and Mr. Beast has won. This means Fall Guys will create a skin based on Ninja, Mr. Beast, Aim Lab, and G2 Esports which will eventually find its way into the popular battle royale. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Original Story: Fall Guys has initiated a "Battle of the Brands" bidding contest to bring themed skins to the game, in aid of UK games charity Special Effect. Announced via the Fall Guys Twitter account, the contest will run for two weeks, at which point the highest bidder will work with Mediatonic to bring a branded skin to the game. The winning donation will go to Special Effect, a charity focused on putting "fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities by helping them to play video games." You can learn more about Special Effect's mission statement here. In less than 16 hours, the donation total has already breached $100,000, with bids arriving from many high profile brands including G2 Esports, Warframe and The Sidemen. Warframe started the bidding at $20,000, opting to adapt the design of 'The Lotus' for Fall Guys if they won. YouTube brand The Sidemen later doubled Warframe's bid with a $40,000 donation, before being superseded by a number of brands overnight. The current highest bidder is G2 Esports at $130,003, who posted a concept for a Samurai-themed Fall Guy to coincide with their branding. We're sure this won't be the last bid over the next two weeks. You can check out our review of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout here, which we scored an 8, calling it a "consistent delight." The Matrix 4: Laurence Fishburne Confirms He Won’t Be Back as Morpheus

Laurence Fishburne has confirmed that he won't be reprising the iconic role of Morpheus for Lana Wachowski's The Matrix 4, as he admitted that he "has not been invited" to return. According to The Wrap, Fishburne told New York Magazine that he was never approached about joining the upcoming Matrix sequel, even though several actors from the original trilogy are returning to reprise their respective roles. "I have not been invited. Maybe that will make me write another play. I wish them well. I hope it's great," Fishburne told the publication. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/03/28/the-matrix-trilogy-in-six-minutes"] "It is probably the role that I'll be best remembered for, which is great; it's not the only thing I'll be remembered for, which is better," he added, reflecting back on his time playing the character. "What I get with him is I've got Darth Vader in this hand, and I've got Obi-Wan in that hand. I've got Bruce Lee, I've got Muhammad Ali shuffled in there, and I've got kung fu." Fishburne's absence from the cast list might be because Morpheus was killed in The Matrix Online, an MMORPG that continues the saga of The Matrix movie trilogy. The game tells the story of Morpheus' attempts to recover Neo's body from the Machines and his subsequent rampage through the MegaCity. The Machines respond by sending the Assassin after Morpheus who later dies from gunshot wounds. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-matrix-4-every-actor-and-character-confirmed-for-the-sequel&captions=true"] While very little is known about the plot of The Matrix 4, the producers were reportedly looking for two actors to portray younger versions of Neo and Morpheus last year, though there has been no further word on these prospective casting choices. Will the young Neo/Morpheus scenes be flashbacks, or will those characters somehow be rebooted in a new version of the Matrix? Plug into the rumours by checking out our history of stories surrounding the fourth film and take a look at everything that we know about the sequel so far. Hitman 3 Modes Revealed, PvP Multiplayer Servers to Shut Down

IO Interactive is developing Hitman 3 for its planned January 2021 launch. Today, the developers outlined all the different modes that will be available in Hitman 3 and the World of Assassination. But with new modes, IO also announced it will begin sunsetting some multiplayer modes including the 1v1 competitive multiplayer Ghost Mode. Hitman 3 will serve as the conclusion to the Hitman trilogy, as well as a hub for the World of Assassination. As such, Hitman 3 will include a brand new sandbox campaign mode that ties the story of the trilogy together. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/11/hitman-iii-announcement-trailer"] Also, Hitman 3 will bring back the popular Elusive Targets mode where players get one shot at eliminating a unique target with no HUD help. Players will need to come up with a plan on the spot and IO says there will be some changes to the mode that will be detailed at a later date. Escalations is an “anything goes” mode. There will be gameplay restrictions to disguises, added security cameras, and other difficulty modifiers that make these some of the hardest challenges in Hitman. Contracts Mode lets players pick their own targets and elimination rules. You can share these rulesets with other players and challenge them to see who can get the best score on a leaderboard. Sniper Assassin, where players must use a sniper rifle to rack up high scores, returns but is now a single-player experience. The co-op servers in Hitman 2 will be sunset before the launch of Hitman 3. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/06/hitman-3-psvr-teaser-trailer-state-of-play-2020"] Finally, IO announced that the 1v1 Ghost Mode will not be in Hitman 3, and servers for Ghost Mode will end on August 31, 2020. IO says that they’ll be taking what they’ve learned from the mode when considering what to do with multiplayer in the future. IO also announced that Hitman will be fully playable in VR at the most recent PlayStation State of Play. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M. Kim is a reporter for IGN.

‘Galactus Is Coming!’ Mysterious ‘Heartbeat’ Detected in Cosmic Cloud

If you thought the Internet freaked out over Annabelle escaping from its occult museum (it didn't) wait until you learn about its reaction to Galactus being on his way. Social media exploded in cries of "Galactus!" -- the planet-consuming Marvel Comics villain -- on Monday when news spread of a heartbeat being detected in a mysterious cosmic gas cloud 15,000 light-years from Earth in the system designated S 433. "The cloud – which is otherwise unremarkable – seems to be 'beating' along with the rhythm of a neighbouring black hole, researchers say. As such, they appear to be connected to each other, the researchers write in a new journal paper," according to The Independent. "But it is not clear how the gamma-ray 'heartbeat' of the cloud can be connected to the black hole, which lies 100 light years away." While the actual science behind what might be causing the mysterious heartbeat is less fantastical than Galactus, that didn't prevent Twitter from exclaiming that the cosmic Marvel supervillain was on his way to make 2020 even more of a terrible year. Here are a smattering of "Galactus!" responses: Although depicted in Marvel Comics as a planet-sized armored humanoid form, Galactus was infamously portrayed as a sentient cloud entity in the 2007 movie Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Look, it could always be worse than Galactus. It could be the giant diarrhea space cloud Parallax from Green Lantern. But, really, what is the deal with that cloud? One theory about this "heartbeat" is that the rhythm is tied to material drawn away by the black hole from the giant star orbiting it, matter shot out at high speed in two narrow jets. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/09/27/why-galactus-should-not-be-the-mcus-next-big-villain"] "Finding such an unambiguous connection via timing, about 100 light years away from the micro quasar, not even along the direction of the jets is as unexpected as amazing," said researcher Jian Li. "But how the black hole can power the gas cloud's heartbeat is unclear to us." Marvel Celebrates Wolverine’s Gory Side In Stylish New Series

Marvel Comics has announced a new ongoing X-Men series called Wolverine: Black, White & Blood. As the name suggests, the series is marked by a distinctive art style rendered only in shades of black, white and red. While Marvel's current Wolverine comic is set firmly within the new Dawn of X status quo, Black, White & Blood is a standalone anthology series that explores various untold stories throughout Wolverine's long life. The first issue will feature three short stories  - a Weapon X tale from writer Gerry Duggan and artist Adam Kubert, a Wolverine and Nick Fury-centric spy-ops story from Matthew Rosenberg and artist Joshua Cassara and a tale set in the era of Grant Morrison's New X-Men from writer/artist Declan Shalvey. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=wolverine-black-white-blood-1-preview&captions=true"] In terms of visual style, Wolverine: Black, White & Blood is similar to DC's Harley Quinn: Black + White + Red series. Unlike that digital-first book, however, Black, White & Blood will ship monthly and be released simultaneously in print and digital formats. Future creators will include Vita Ayala, Chris Claremont, Saladin Ahmed, Donny Cates, Ed Brisson, Kelly Thompson, Greg Land, Salvador Larroca, Kev Walker, Chris Bachalo and Leonard Kirk. “I can’t stress how exciting it is getting all of these pages from the absolutely killer level of talent assembled for this book," series editor Mark Basso told Marvel.com. "It’s become a hype cliché, but you’ve really never seen anything quite like this from Marvel Comics. And you’ve only seen a fraction of the first issue…” "This is a real career highlight for me," said Shalvey. "I've written Old Man Logan, I've drawn RETURN OF WOLVERINE, but getting to write and draw Wolverine in a moody, stripped down story is a real jewel in my crown, as it were. Not only that, but to showcase my work in black and white with the added tool of a stylized red really opens up interesting storytelling possibilities. I get to take a stab (pun intended) at one of my absolute favorite characters and depict him in a more definitive way." Wolverine: Black, White & Blood #1 will be released in November 2020. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/10/09/marvels-x-men-now-have-a-bold-new-status-quo-ign-now"] In other recent comics news, Batman icons Scott Snyder and Tony Daniel are joining forces for a horror comic called Nocternal, while current Batman writer James Tynion IV is teaming with Dying Is easy's Martin Simmonds for a conspiracy thriller called The Department of Truth.
