Doom Patrol Season 3 Officially Announced for HBO Max

Doom Patrol has been renewed for a third season exclusively for HBO Max. The new season will premiere sometime in 2021. Doom Patrol, based on the DC Comics characters of the same name, stars a misfit group of heroes comprising Robotman, Negative Man, Crazy Jane, Elasti-Woman, and Cyborg. The first two seasons premiered on DC’s digital subscription service DC Universe, but WarnerMedia has since moved the first two seasons to HBO Max. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=doom-patrol-season-2-gallery&captions=true"] “Doom Patrol came to HBO Max with an already deep and passionate fan base and has risen to the top as one of the most-watched Max Originals on the platform,” HBO Max original content boss Sarah Aubrey said in a statement. Doom Patrol has been consistently praised for its off-kilter tone, gonzo plot, and unique sensibilities, especially compared to other superhero shows and even other DC shows. For example, the big bad of Season 1 was introduced with the arrival of a farting goat. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/11/doom-patrol-season-2-trailer"] IGN reviewed the Doom Patrol season 2 premiere and gave it a 9/10 calling it the “best thing on DC Universe.” However, given HBO Max’s higher profile, the move to the premiere Warner Bros. streaming platform will hopefully give Doom Patrol an even bigger profile and more attention. The Boys Season 2: Liberty Explained

This explainer contains full spoilers for The Boys Season 2, episode 4. Be sure to check out our review of The Boys Season 2, episode 4. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Sprinkled throughout the first three episodes of The Boys' second season are Easter eggs in the form of posters and even an old Budweiser advertisement featuring a superhero called Liberty. These brief glimpses of the forgotten hero never gave us a clear image of who this heroine might be... until now. Episode 4, titled "Nothing Like It in the World," revealed the shocking truth that Stormfront is somehow Liberty. While we still don't know how Liberty looks so good after 50+ years on the job (Compound V perhaps?), we spoke to showrunner Eric Kripke to learn more details about her transformation into Stormfront. Boys_Whoa

The Boys Season 2: Is Liberty from the Comic Books?

While Stormfront is a character from the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson who was created by the Nazis, Liberty is a completely new creation from Kripke and his writing team. While there are some key differences (the main one being that in the comics, Stormfront is a guy) it's very clear that she exhibits many of her comic book counterpart's beliefs. "From day one, I wanted to bring Stormfront in as a character, but we wanted to change it up as we do with a lot of the elements in the show," Kripke told IGN. "We wanted it to reflect 2020. And the truth is today, a lot of hate is packaged in this sort of savvy, charming social media package. Like, 'Hey, we're just iconoclastic free thinkers over here,' but really we've been pedaling hateful s**t for decades.' So we wanted to reflect that. So we start off with this character who's savvy and a free thinker, but then, once you scratch the surface you realize how hateful her thoughts and feelings are. And now, in episode 4, we realize that not only does she have those hateful thoughts, but she's also very old and she's holding onto very old hateful thoughts that's she's now just packaging in new ways." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/24/amazons-the-boys-season-2-review"] For the sake of spoilers, Kripke didn't go into too much detail about Stormfront's mysterious past or why she's decided to make a comeback all of a sudden. However, he did hint at why Vought may have given her a new persona. "So we knew that Stormfront is much older than she lets on," Kripke explained. "[Liberty] just came from a conversation of, well, Vought probably changed her image every couple of decades and just moved her around, like a catholic priest. And so, who would she have been in the '70s or '60s? Who would she have been if she had even greater freedom to be openly racist? So it emerged from that conversation." We also found it interesting that for a character called Liberty, she doesn't really live up to her name - Kripke explained why. "It falls under a very typical Vought M.O.," Kripke said. "They give their heroes very marketable names. And the heroes in many ways exhibit the exact opposite qualities of the names they're professing: Queen Maeve doesn't act much like a queen, Homelander isn't really protecting his homeland, and Liberty is about the opposite of liberty." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/02/the-boys-how-much-does-homelander-know-about-homelander"] For more on The Boys: Season 2, check out our review of episode 4, find out which character X-Men star Shawn Ashmore is playing in upcoming episodes, and who Supernatural star Jensen Ackles will play in Season 3. PlayStation 5 Showcase Announced for Next Wednesday

Sony has announced that a PlayStation 5 showcase will broadcast live on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at 1pm PT/4pm ET/9pm BST. Announced on PlayStation Blog, this showcase will "feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners." It's not specifically mentioned, but one could assume that we will also find out the price and release date of both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, as Microsoft has finally revealed that both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will be released on November 10, 2020, at $499 and $299, respectively. This will be the first focused PS5 event since the reveal of the console itself and such PS5 games as Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Horizon Forbidden West. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/12/ps5-reveal-event-in-5-minutes"] While pre-orders have yet to go up for the PS5, Sony has offered its fans a way to sign up for a chance to be one of the first to buy a PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, as well as many of the official accessories. Sony has also confirmed that PS5 pre-orders won't be a surprise, so if Sony does announce a price and release date at this upcoming event, it will most likely open up pre-orders at a later date. Microsoft did something similar, as pre-orders will go live for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 22, 2020. To stay up to date, be sure to check out our Everything We Know About Pre-Orders So Far article that will be up to date with all the info you will need to help you secure one of Sony's next-gen consoles. Phil Spencer Had an Xbox Series S on His Shelf in July and No One Noticed

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer took multiple video interviews in July 2020 with an Xbox Series S simply sitting on his shelf, and no one noticed. The official Xbox Twitter account revealed the fun fact that in the #GAMELAB20 Keynote Fireside, Spencer had the unannounced Xbox Series S on a shelf over his left shoulder the whole time. PhilXbox Furthermore, Spencer also spoke with iJustine and Jenna Ezarik around the same time and also had the console in plain sight. The reveal comes only days after the Xbox Series S was leaked and then officially announced. The Xbox Series S is an all-digital console that has many of the features of the Xbox Series X, but costs only $299 USD. While it has no disc drive and is only capable of running games at 1440p, it will run games at 120 FPS and supports DirectX ray tracing and 4K upscaling for games. Oh, and it's also the smallest Xbox ever. The Xbox Series S may have been revealed last week, but it was, according to Spencer, a week earlier than planned due to the previously mentioned leak of the console's design and price. Kena: Bridge of Spirits Delayed to 2021

Kena: Bridge of Spirits, the third-person action-adventure from developer Ember Lab has been delayed to Q1 2021. The studio behind Kena announced the news on Twitter, noting the move to working from home due to COVID-19 has "caused development to move slower than we hoped." The studio's full statement reads: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/30/kena-bridge-of-spirits-developer-commentary"]
The Ember Lab Team is overwhelmed and humbled by the positive response and outpouring of support for Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Your kind words and excitement for the game have been an inspiration to the team. This year has brought many challenges and our transition to working from home has caused development to move slower than we hoped. For this reason, we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of Kena: Bridge of Spirits to Q1, 2021. We have not made this decision lightly, but feel it is best for the game and well-being of the team. We will use this time to give the game the polish it deserves and deliver an experience that meets our vision and your expectations. We look forward to sharing more about Kena in the coming months and delivering an amazing experience early next year.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="legacyId=14208895&captions=true"] Kena is still set for release on PS5, PS4, and PC via the Epic Games Store. Most recently, Ember Lab offered up new details about what the PS5 offers Kena: Bridge of Spirits on a gameplay, story, and visual level, after having previously showcased more of the impressive-looking adventure during IGN's Summer of Gaming earlier this year.
