Wicked Will Be Split Into Two Separate Movies

If you were really looking forward to the upcoming Wicked film adaptation from Universal Pictures, there will soon be more to love. Director Jon M. Chu announced on Twitter that Wicked is actually going to be two films. The first Wicked film is coming on December 25, 2024, and the second comes a year later on December 25, 2025.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are starring in both films as Glinda and Elphaba, who the Wizard of Oz fans will know as Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West. Wicked is a prequel to the Wizard of Oz, showing the friendship between the pair of witches and detailing how one became the Wicked Witch.

The film is based on the Tony-Award winning Broadway musical, which itself is an adaptation of an earlier novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire.

"As we prepared the production over the last year, it became impossible to wrestle the story of ‘Wicked’ into a single film without doing some real damage to it,” Chu said in his tweet. "As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years. We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one Wicked movie but two! With more space, we can tell the story of Wicked as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys for these beloved characters."

The script for Wicked is being written by Winnie Holzman. Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the songs for the original Broadway show, is also on hand to handle the screenplay. Likewise, film and stage producer Marc Platt, who produced the stage play, returns to produce the film. Platt recently produced Dear Evan Hansen, another stage musical adaptation that starred his son, actor and singer Ben Platt.

Wicked is Chu's follow-up film to 2021's In The Heights, which was yet another adaptation of a stage musical. That film premiered HBO Max to great reviews, but poor audience numbers on the service. Still, it remained one of our favorite films of 2021, even is it was yet another example of a popular stage musical failing to find a big screen audience.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom CinemaCon 2022 Footage Teases a Team-Up of Arthur Curry and Orm Marius

New footage of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom from CinemaCon 2022 teases a team-up of Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry and Patrick Wilson's Orm Marius.

At the end of 2018's Aquaman, Orm finds himself imprisoned after a battle with Aquaman, but the sequel appears to have them working together to stop Black Manta.

Speaking of the villain played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Black Manta looks to have his own ship and one of his crew members is Randall Park's Dr. Stephen Shin.

There were a few other scenes shown, and one shows Arthur and Orm in civilian clothes going through the woods.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was recently delayed to March 17, 2023 from Decebmer 2022 and looks to be a "more mature" sequel than the original, according to director James Wan.

Joining the cast for this new story will be Jani Zhao's Stingray, Indya Moore's Karshon, Vincent Regan's Atlan, and more.

The Flash Offers a Sneak Peek at ‘Hermit’ Bruce Wayne During CinemaCon 2022

Warner Bros. showed off new footage of The Flash at CinemaCon 2022, including Michael Keaton's Batman living like a hermit alone in Wayne Manor, complete with long hair and a beard.

In the footage, we see Keaton in his suit without a cowl and he says, "you wanna get nuts? Let's get nuts." In another scene, he can be seen standing in front of seven iconic Batman suits.

Zod also makes an appearance and is seen flying at very high speeds. He has a clear face shield due to the difference in the atmosphere.

Finally, a glimpse of Keaton's motorcycle is shown, and it appears to be similar to the big one Christian Bale had in Nolan's films. It also looks to have two wheels in the front versus the one big one that Bale had.

The Flash, which stars Ezra Miller as the hero with incredible speed, was recently delayed from November 2022 to June 23, 2023. Miller himself recently got into trouble with the law as he was arrested for disorderly conduct and harassment in Hawaii.

For more, check out Affleck's comments on The Flash being his final film as DC's Batman and why Flashpoint is the perfect reboot for the DCEU.

Shared at CinemaCon 2022, the live-action take on the beloved toy will hit theaters next year. In the first look image you can see below, we see Robbie's Barbie with a big smile in a pink convertible.

Robbie will be joined by Ryan Gosling, who will play Ken, and Will Ferrell, who will reportedly play the CEO of a toy company.

Lady Bird and Little Woman director Greta Gerwig is directing the film and is a co-writer alongside Marriage Story's Noah Baumbach.

In a past interview with British Vogue, Robbie said a project like this "comes with a lot of baggage! And a lot of nostalgic connections."

“But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it,” Robbie added. “People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ’Oh, well, maybe I don’t…’”

Other cast members include Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, and America Ferrera.

Overwatch Hits Peak Twitch Viewership After Overwatch 2 Beta Opens

The long-in-development Overwatch 2 finally went live with a PvP beta this afternoon. Soon after launch, the first Overwatch broke its previous record of total Twitch viewership in mere hours.

In honor of the sequel beta, several high-profile twitch streamers such as Lirik, Myth, and most notably, xQc streamed the first Overwatch. The game peaked at around 450,000 views today, and xQc's amassed over 150,000 views of Overwatch on his own.

Overwatch fans have been dying to see if they were selected for the Overwatch 2 PVP beta. The only way of accessing a beta key is to watch partnered streamers for a certain length of time while having their Blizzard battle.net account linked on Twitch. Lucky users can pick up a PC beta key only until May 17th.

In a tweet from Nathan Grayson of the Washington Post, sources have stated that Overwatch has suffered from Activision Blizzard’s aggressive demands for both a sequel and an esports league. The company’s well-reported workplace lawsuits haven’t helped either, and there have been several high-profile exits from the company in the past several years.

With over fifty million units sold in the original Overwatch, there is a whole lot riding on Blizzard for developing a worthy sequel. For years, fans of Overwatch had been seeing issues from delayed hero releases to seeing Jeff Kaplan, Overwatch’s original game director, leave the company entirely exactly one year ago.
