Wonder Girl TV Series In the Works at CW

CW is developing a show based on the newly announced Wonder Woman from DC’s Future State comic event, Yara Flor. Deadline is reporting that CW is working on a Wonder Girl show from Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and Queen of the South executive producer and co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez. The CW series is notable for both starring the first Latina superhero, and also being based on a character who hasn’t officially debuted yet in DC comics. Yara Flor is the new Wonder Woman in the upcoming Future State series. Flor is an Amazonian Warrior and Brazilian River God who takes up the mantle of Wonder Girl. Diana is still around in the future as Immortal Wonder Woman in a separate comic series. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=future-state-all-of-dcs-superman-family-comics-in-february-2021&captions=true"] Wonder Girl will join existing DC shows at the CW including Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Black Lightning, Superman and Lois, and the outgoing Supergirl. Check out IGN’s full rundown of DC’s Future State, coming in early 2021, which shakes up the DC universe by venturing into the, well, future. This means new and returning characters who will take up the names of Superman, Batman, and more. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M. Kim is a reporter for IGN.

Halo Infinite ‘High-Level’ Update Coming Soon, But Not at The Game Awards

A big Halo Infinite community update is in the works, but there are currently no plans for the game to be at The Video Game Awards, 343 Industries confirmed. In the weekly discussion thread on the Halo subreddit, 343 Industries community director Brian Jarrard stopped by to share that plans for a community update are in the works, but not in time for the VGAs. “Full disclosure we don’t have anything planned for the VGAs but are hoping to offer at least a high-level update within the next few weeks so we can kind of restart this journey together after the holidays,” Jarrard writes. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=confirmed-xbox-series-x-games&captions=true"] “Putting together something like a demo or a big beat for the VGAs is an enormous amount of work and would cause challenges with the current milestones of the holidays,” Jarrard added. Presently, Jarrard says 343 is still “going through the huge cascade of implications and ramifications” that appeared after the studio announced it will delay Halo Infinite to 2021. The new Master Chief adventure was supposed to be a launch title for the Xbox Series X, but the developers felt it required more time to get right. Of particular note is Jarrard’s use of the word “restart” to describe the official press around Halo Infinite. After a tepid gameplay demo reveal, 343 has taken Halo Infinite back into development and hired Halo series veterans like Joseph Staten to bring the title “back on track.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/23/halo-infinite-9-minutes-of-campaign-gameplay"] It’s unclear what the current state of Halo Infinite is, the developers are clearly taking the feedback from the gameplay reveal, which was criticized for its art style and fidelity, during this summer’s Xbox Games showcase seriously. PS5 Doesn’t Have Quick Resume, But Activity Cards May Offer a Workaround

When discussing what the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X do better at launch compared to one another, there's one feature Microsoft's next-gen consoles have that's absent on Sony's: the Quick Resume ability to hop between games without fully exiting them. But the PS5's Activities Cards may be the next best thing for getting you into games faster than ever before on a PlayStation console. We've known since their introduction that these new Cards would allow you to jump into parts of a game nearly instantly, but as noted in a now-viral tweet by @TheAP99, specifically using the Cards from the PS5's main UI offers a lot more flexibility in jumping to specific points in various games. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/16/ps5s-ui-the-5-biggest-gamechangers"] In TheAP99's video, you can see the use of the Cards in a way that's always been an option but one not made as apparent by PlayStation. In the original showcase of the PS5's new UI, the focus on Cards was primarily around their use while in-game, such as with Sackboy: A Big Adventure, as players could hop around to different levels via the Cards in the PS5's new Control Center. However, as the video points out, each game will also have Activities Cards living on their respective PS5 dashboard pages, you just need to navigate below the play and Trophies buttons (a region that many may not dare enter given how slowly everything below the fold could run on PS4). By pressing "Resume" on any of these cards, you can bypass main menus, intro screens, and more and get directly to the action. That's certainly been an advertised feature of the Cards - to get you to different parts of your games quicker than ever before. But for players looking to make that jump from one game to the next, that functionality is there, it's just not the most immediately obvious option, as most of your interactions with Cards are likely to be via the Control Center. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=what-works-and-what-doesnt-about-the-ps5&captions=true"] Again, it's worth noting that this is not an exact function compared to Quick Resume - you're still exiting a game, and loading into another, but if you're open to jumping into the PS5's UI, you can get directly to the moment in a game you're looking for more quickly than just starting up the game by pressing "play" on its page. But, for example, I right now on my PS5 am playing Demon's Souls, and can navigate to the PS5 dashboard to pick Cards for Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered on its page, or to different levels via Cards on Sackboy: A Big Adventure's page. Of course, you can continue to access games as you do traditionally, and even use the PS5's Game Switcher feature on the Control Center to shift from one game to the next. But if you want to know more about the PS5's hidden features and other functionality, be sure to check out our comprehensive PS5 wiki guide. Microsoft Wants Bethesda Games ‘First or Better or Best’ on Xbox

Xbox’s plans for its big Bethesda acquisition are starting to take shape as the company reveals that, as far as cross-platform is concerned, Bethesda games will be “first or better or best,” on Xbox consoles when they are released. Microsoft continues to field questions about the future of Bethesda, and Bethesda games on other platforms after its blockbuster acquisition of ZeniMax. Xbox CFO Tim Stuart spoke at the Jeffries Interactive Entertainment Virtual Conference last week (as transcribed by SeekingAlpha) and gave more details about the company’s plans for Bethesda and ZeniMax games and cross-platform. “What we’ll do in the long run is we don’t have intentions of just pulling all of Bethesda content out of Sony or Nintendo or otherwise,” Stuart says. “But what we want is we want that content, in the long run, to be either first or better or best or pick your differentiated experience, on our platforms. We will want Bethesda content to show up the best as — on our platforms.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=confirmed-xbox-series-x-games&captions=true"] Stuart was clear that his statements aren’t meant to announce pulling content from other platforms, but says that audiences will see Xbox “continue to see us shift towards a first or better or best approach on our platforms.” He also mentioned how this strategy will help Xbox’s prized Game Pass program going forward. “[I]f you think about something like Game Pass, if it shows up best in Game Pass, that’s what we want to see, and we want to drive our Game Pass subscriber base through that Bethesda pipeline,” Stuart adds. So what does this mean? Well, for starters Stuart is just talking about cross-platform releases. But for Bethesda games, and presumably, ZeniMax games, that are released on other platforms players can expect to find those games either first on Xbox or possibly with additions that make it “best” on an Xbox platform. What this means in practice remains to be seen as the ink is still drying on the ZeniMax acquisition. So far, the deal has produced a few more ZeniMax games appearing on Game Pass like Doom Eternal. And Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said that it'll determine the release plan for ZeniMax and Bethesda games on a "case by case" basis which leaves even more flexibility to how Xbox approaches future games from the developers. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/23/ps5-what-xbox-buying-bethesda-means-for-sony-beyond-episode-667"] We’ll likely get a better picture of Xbox’s strategy in the future, but both of Bethesda’s big games like Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 are still seemingly years away. SpaceX Astronauts Take Baby Yoda Doll Into Space With Them

International Space Station astronauts aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule are using a small Baby Yoda doll as a zero-gravity indicator aboard the spaceship. Seeing Baby Yoda in space is not surprising, but the little guy is usually accompanied by his Mandalorian partner-caretaker — not earthling astronauts. That's why it was a surprise when Baby Yoda was spotted floating about the inside of the recently-launched SpaceX Dragon capsule, as reported by HuffPost. It's sadly not Baby Yoda, but rather, a small Baby Yoda doll that's being used to help the crew determine whether or not they've reached a point of zero gravity. As noted by CBS space news journalist, William Harwood, in the tweet above, the Baby Yoda doll seen in the upper right section of the image is used to help the Dragon crew determine if they're in zero gravity. When the doll begins to float, they've reached zero gravity. If you watch the SpaceflightNow video below, you'll see Baby Yoda floating in quite a few shots. You can see him near the middle of the shot at the four-second mark and in the upper right corner of the shot at the 35-second mark. The crew is set to dock with the ISS on Monday and we're hoping they bring Baby Yoda with them. He is, after all, just a baby and shouldn't be left alone. Can somebody get him some eggs in the meantime? For more Baby Yoda, read our thoughts on the latest episode of The Mandalorian in our Season 2, Episode 3 review, and then learn when the rest of the episodes for Season 2 drop. Justice League: Zack Snyder Wanted to Release His Cut As Two Movies

Zack Snyder has revealed that he initially thought that his cut of Justice League would be released as two movies, one month apart from one another. As Screen Rant reports, Snyder recently sat down with TheFilmJunkee crew to discuss some very early plans that he had for his version of Justice League, which is releasing in four parts on HBO Max next year. In the interview, Snyder said one of his original ideas was to split his four-hour cut in half to release it across two movies, with a month between each installment. "The studio had seen the director's cut, but even the director's cut of the movie was shorter than my cut," he admitted. "This is my cut of the movie, but there was a cut that I created that I said this is too much for the studio. The mandate was, make the movie two hours long. I cannot show them a four-hour version of the movie. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/21/the-true-story-behind-the-snyder-cut"] "If I show them a four-hour version of the movie," he hypothetically explained. "I did have this idea, 'Oh, maybe we could just split it in half and make it into two two-hour movies.' My first idea was like, you showed two hours, and then there's like, maybe a month, and then the next two hours come out. That was one of my ideas." Instead, it was agreed that the Snyder Cut of Justice League would be released as a multi-part series, cut into television show-like chunks, with each one being an hour long. Snyder admitted that the change in direction turned out to be the correct course of action, as he specifically structured the story as "six chapters," which "leant itself" to the miniseries format. It is, however, understood that all four parts will be released as a single four-hour movie sometime after the Snyder cut of Justice League debuts on WarnerMedia's streaming service. Despite its massive runtime, Snyder recently revealed that, out of the four hours, there's probably only going to be about "four minutes or five minutes of additional photography for the entire movie." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=justice-league-snyder-cut-all-the-known-differences-from-the-theatrical-version&captions=true"] Although there might not be much in the way of additional photography, there will be plenty of differences between the Snyder cut (which is being dubbed the "director's cut") and Joss Whedon's 2017 theatrical release. Microsoft Expects Xbox Series X/S Shortages to Continue Into 2021

Microsoft CFO Tim Stuart has said the company expects shortages of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S to continue through the first quarter of 2021. Speaking at the Jefferies Interactive Entertainment Virtual Conference (transcribed by Seeking Alpha), Stuart was asked about resupplying after Xbox Series pre-orders sold out, and explained that demand is huge right now, adding, "frankly, gaming is just exploding". The upshot appears to be that supply won't be able to truly meet demand for some time yet. "I think we'll continue to see supply shortages as we head into the post-holiday quarter, so Microsoft's Q3, calendar Q1 [the period ending March 31, 2021]", said Stuart. "And then when we get to [Microsoft's Q4, April-June 2021], all of our supply chain continuing to go full speed heading into kind of the pre-summer months." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=confirmed-xbox-series-x-games&captions=true"] Stuart expects to see supply begin meeting demand during that April-June period. "We'll have supply cranking over the next, what, 4, 5, 6 months. And that's when I expect to see really that demand profile start to be met, which will be really, really great." Stuart says he expects to see "real velocity kick up" once both Series X and S consoles are widely available to all. It's clearly been a good launch for Xbox, with Series X and S seeing the largest launch in Xbox history, and the company has promised that more consoles are being made available as soon as possible. HBO Max Headed to Amazon Fire Devices After 6-Month Wait

HBO Max will start rolling out on Amazon Fire devices on November 17, less than six months after the initial launch of the WarnerMedia streaming service. Starting from tomorrow, those that have access to Amazon Fire TV streaming devices, Fire TV Edition smart TVs, and Fire tablets will be able to load the HBO Max app onto their devices. From there, HBO subscribers will then be able to start streaming HBO Max's on-demand vast library of movies and shows, hailing from iconic brands of HBO, Warner Bros., DC, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and much more. For the rollout, current HBO subscribers through Amazon's Prime Video Channels will be able to log into the HBO Max app with their Amazon credentials at no additional cost. The HBO app will automatically update on Fire TV and Fire tablets to become the HBO Max app, and customers will be able to log in using their existing HBO credentials. New customers can also subscribe to HBO Max in the app. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/21/justice-league-the-snyder-cut-official-hbo-max-announcement"] This news comes after many months of negotiations between WarnerMedia and their parent company AT&T with Amazon and Roku, two of the major hardware companies for streaming. While Amazon has been successful in reaching an agreement, there hasn't been any indication of Roku establishing a similar distribution deal with HBO Max at this point in time. "We are very excited that Amazon customers will now be able to enjoy the best-in-class content that lives within HBO Max," said Tony Goncalves, WarnerMedia's Head of Sales & Distribution. "Our continued goal is to make HBO Max and its unparalleled content available to customers across all the devices they love. Fire TV is a favorite among customers and we look forward to working with the Amazon team to engage and grow our existing subscriber base by showcasing all that HBO Max has to offer." "We've worked closely with HBO for many years to bring their great content to Fire TV and to make it easier to discover and enjoy with features like search integration, Alexa and personalized recommendations," added Marc Whitten, Vice President of Amazon Entertainment Devices & Services. "We are excited to continue that partnership with the launch of HBO Max to bring even more incredible content to customers on Fire TV." The HBO Max app is fully integrated with Amazon's compatible Alexa-enabled devices, meaning that customers can navigate the platform's library of content using Alexa voice commands. HBO Max content is also integrated into the universal search on Fire TV, so that content will appear in general searches such as "Alexa, find dramas." Customers can also ask Alexa to start watching specific movies and shows. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Will Get PC Achievements, Despite Ubisoft Saying It Wont

Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on PC will be updated with achievements, noting that a previous statement from the company saying that achievements were intentionally omitted is “inaccurate”.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/29/assassins-creed-valhalla-story-trailer"]

Currently, the Ubisoft Connect PC launcher page for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is missing the section for achievements. When the situation was made the topic of a Ubisoft forums thread, a Ubisoft support staff member responded stating: “Achievements are not not available for this title on PC, and this is an intended change.” They went on to explain that instead of achievements, Ubisoft Connect would offer expanded challenges.

But in an update to that forum post, Ubisoft has stated that the “response above was inaccurate”.

"We are aware that achievements are not available for Assassin's Creed Valhalla players on PC - this was unintended,” says the response. “We are actively working to enable achievements and will keep you updated when more information is available."

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-assassins-creed-review&captions=true"]

Ubisoft has yet to clarify when achievements will be added to the PC version of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but at least players now know that they will arrive sometime in the (hopefully near) future.

Oxford University Study Suggests Playing Games Is Good for Mental Health

An Oxford University study has suggested that playing games could be good for your mental health. As reported by The Guardian, academics from the UK university used gameplay data from Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville in the study, using psychological questionnaires to find that more playtime led to a greater sense of "wellbeing" in players. This is one of the first instances of researchers using real playtime data rather than asking subjects to report their own hours. "This is about bringing games into the fold of psychology research that’s not a dumpster fire," lead researcher  Andrew Przybylski explained. The study showed that you're a "much happier human being" if you play four hours a day of Animal Crossing, but the team doesn't want to give games a "carte blanche pass" as a result. "I’m very confident that if the research goes on, we will learn about the things that we think of as toxic in games, and we will have evidence for those things as well" [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/10/12/hellblade-senuas-sacrifice-dev-creates-mental-health-scholarship"] Przybylski thinks that if researchers continue to take advantage of gameplay data collected by a wider range of publishers and developers instead of using self-reported hours, they will be able to understand more about our relationship with the hobby. "You have really respected, important bodies, like the World Health Organization and the NHS, allocating attention and resources to something that there’s literally no good data on, Przybylski says. "And it’s shocking to me, the reputational risk that everyone’s taking, given the stakes. For them to turn around and be like, ‘hey, this thing that 95% of teenagers do? Yeah, that’s addictive, no, we don’t have any data,’ that makes no sense." In other news, England's top mental health nurse recently asked for game publishers to restrict microtransactions as they may push kids into gambling habits. Last year, the UK's NHS opened its first treatment clinic for video game addiction. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jordan Oloman is a freelance writer for IGN. Follow him on Twitter.
