Alison Brie on a Possible GLOW Movie: ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’

One of the more recent casualties of Netflix's new harsh habit of canceling shows unceremoniously is GLOW, which, rather than being canceled, was actually 'un-renewed.' Which is to say it had already been picked up for a fourth and final season before Netflix changed its mind and pulled the plug completely, leaving fans in limbo with an unfinished story. Obviously, in times like these, viewers might clamor for that one extra season, even if it's a shortened version, just to give some closure. Or, in this case, a GLOW wrap up movie, which fans (and star Marc Maron) have asked for. While talking to The Playlist's podcast, The Fourth Wall, Brie opened up about the possibility of a movie - and why she's not exactly counting on it happening. "I certainly think a [GLOW] movie could tie everything up," Brie said. "Our creators, Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, are incredible writers. And they’re so devoted to these characters that they created. I think a movie would be a great way to wrap it up." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/02/new-to-netflix-for-november-2020"] "I’m a little pessimistic about it actually happening just in light of everything that’s gone on this year and how difficult it is to get anything back into production with COVID," Brie continued, "and I’m also part of the Community cast, who’s been trying to get a movie going for six years." "So what I’m saying is don’t hold your breath because if it does happen, it might take a minute." If you're looking for some reviews on Netflix's most recent offerings, here's our take on The Queen's Gambit, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, as well as our review of The Crown: Season 4. Netflix also made news recently by announcing that it's testing out a new linear content channel, dubbed Netflix Direct, which will offer subscribers real-time, scheduled programming for the very first time. Spider-Man: Miles Morales Names a Street After Chadwick Boseman

Update (11/21/20) - Reddit user RollieDell has discovered that a street in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales was named after the late Chadwick Boseman. Screenshot_2020-11-21 r marvelstudios - I found another tribute to Chadwick Boseman is Spider-Man Miles Morales 42nd Street[...] Chadwick Way has replaced 42nd Street in Miles Morales for PS5, and can be found between 1st and 3rd Avenue. The number 42 has a lot of meaning for both Boseman, as he starred as Jackie Robinson in the film 42. Furthermore, the number 42 appears in both the original Miles Morales comic and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as an homage to Robinson. Original story follows. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Spider-Man: Miles Morales includes tributes to two Marvel titans - Chadwick Boseman and Stan Lee - with a particularly heartfelt message for the king of Wakanda. In the newest Marvel's Spider-Man game, players will find all kinds of easter eggs and references to the greater Marvel universe. But one tribute isn't hidden at all but is one that certainly pulls at the heartstrings.

Small Spoilers for Spider-Man: Miles Morales Credits Below.

After beating Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a message memorializing Chadwick Boseman, who played the Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, plays during the credits. It reads:
"In loving memory of a noble king, Chadwick Boseman. His honor, strength, and compassion will reverberate for generations to come. Wakanda forever."
Boseman died in August 2020 at the age of 43 due to complications with colon cancer. Boseman kept the diagnosis private for years while continuing to act in films like Black Panther, Da 5 Bloods, and more. Miles Morales also includes another memorial, an in-game one, for Marvel's Stan Lee. A bronze statue of the legendary comic book creator can be found in the game's open-world on the Upper West Side next to Mick's Diner. Lee, who died in 2018, made a cameo as the owner of Mick's diner in Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4. It was part of a long-running tradition of including Stan Lee in various Marvel projects over the years, whether it be in movies, books, or other. A tribute to Lee was also added to the Spider-Man PS4 credits post-launch. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/06/marvels-spider-man-miles-morales-review"] It's nice to see Miles Morales and the developers pay tribute to two Marvel greats, especially given how recent their deaths have been. A Copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 Just Sold for a World Record-Setting $156,000

A sealed copy of NES' Super Mario Bros. 3 has sold for $156,000 USD and has set the world record for the highest price paid for a video game at auction. On November 20, Heritage Auctions sold a sealed copy of 1990's Super Mario Bros. 3 for $156,000 and surpassed the sale of NES' Super Mario Bros. from earlier this year that sold for $114,000 USD. Screenshot_2020-11-21 Super Mario Bros 3 - Wata 9 2 A+ Sealed [ Bros Left, First Lot #93032 Heritage Auctions The bidding for this rare copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 began at $62,000 USD, and 20 bidders fought for the chance to purchase it and, in doing so, also made this the world's first-ever million-dollar video-game auction. "While the condition of the game is remarkable, what makes this copy even more singular is the layout of the packaging itself: Exceedingly rare are sealed copies with the word "Bros." formatted to the left, covering one of Mario's signature white gloves," A press release from Heritage Auctions stated. "Collectors have spent years looking for such a version — the earliest in the Super Mario Bros. 3 production history – and usually come up empty-handed." This particular copy earned a grade of Wata 9.2 A+. In July, another variant of Super Mario Bros. 3 with a grade of Wata 9.0 A sold for $38,400 USD. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/01/14/super-mario-bros-3-world-record-speedrun"] Friday was also another big day for video games, as a sealed copy of the "Red Version" of 1998's Pokemon for Nintendo Game Boy - which was graded Wata 9.8 A++ - sold for $84,000 USD, making it the highest price ever paid for a Pokemon title. Furthermore, its final price was four times its pre-sale estimate. In 2019, we did a deep-dive into why an ultra-rare copy of NES' Super Mario Bros. sold for over $100,000, and why some earn these high prices. Speaking of high prices, a prototype of the Nintendo PlayStation console also sold for $360,000 USD at auction earlier this year, making 2020 a important and notable year for video game collectibles. Fortnite: Galactus Set to Arrive in Nexus War Finale Live Event

Fortnite's Chapter 2: Season 4 crossover will finally see Galactus arrive in a one-time only Nexus War finale live event on December 1, 2020, at 1pm PT/4pm ET/9pm GMT. No further details were given as to what players can expect from this event besides the Fortnite Team noting that "Galactus is closing in on the Island and the fate of all Reality lies in the balance." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/fortnite-x-marvel-season-4-nexus-war-update-explained"] To prepare for the event, it is recommended players download the latest update for Fortnite and log in at least 60 minutes prior to the start of the event. The event playlist should be up 30 minutes prior to the start time. The Fortnite team has said that it has "taken measures to ensure more people can attend the event," but it is still recommended that players arrive early. It is also mentioned that players will be able to take advantage of Fortnite's new integration with Housparty to video chat with friends in-game if you are playing on PC, PlayStation 4, or PlayStation 5. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=fortnite-marvel-crossover-screenshots&captions=true"] Fortnite's Marvel-themed season has seen such characters as Iron Man, Thor, Storm, Doctor Doom, She-Hulk, Mystique, Groot, and Wolverine be added to the game as skins, alongside other easter eggs, weapons, and more. Even though this live event is being built up to be a finale event for the Nexus War, Fortnite still has "many years of Marvel integration" planned beyond this current season. Director Confirms Predator Movie Plan, But Isn’t Happy It Leaked

UPDATE: Director Dan Trachtenberg has confirmed that he's working on a Predator movie, but isn't very happy that the news leaked. Trachtenberg took to Twitter to explain that his Predator project "was meant to be a surprise. Been working on this for almost 4 years now. I am very sad that what we had in store for how you could discover this movie will no longer happen. It’s a bummer. But also...YAY!" This has led some, including IGN's own Jesse Schedeen, to speculate that perhaps Trachtenberg's project was meant to be revealed as a Predator movie at the very end, not dissimilar to how the director's 10 Cloverfield Lane wasn't initially made as a Cloverfield sequel. Our original report follows. [poilib element="accentDivider"] A new Predator movie is reportedly in the works from Dan Trachtenberg, the director of 10 Cloverfield Lane. Deadline says the new movie won't include any of the plot elements from 2018's The Predator, which was received poorly by critics and audiences. Patrick Aison, a writer and producer on Jack Ryan and a consultant for Legion, is writing the script. John Davis will once again produce as he has done for the other four Predator movies. The movie will be released through Disney's 20th Century Studios. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/10-cloverfield-lane-live-qa-watch-along-w-director-dan-trachtenberg"] Dan Trachtenberg's feature-length directorial debut was 10 Cloverfield Lane, which was released in 2016. Since then, Trachtenberg directed an episode of Black Mirror and the pilot to The Boys. This new Predator movie will be Trachtenberg's second feature film. The franchise's previous entry, 2018's The Predator, was written and directed by Iron Man 3's Shane Black. It pulled in the highest box office gross for a single Predator movie with about $160 million. Only Aliens vs. Predator made more at the box office for the Predator franchise. Unfortunately, The Predator cost a hefty $88 million to make and likely millions more to market, according to The Numbers. IGN's The Predator review says the movie "splinters apart in the haphazard and shoddy-looking last half-hour, largely derailing what began as a promising entry in the wildly inconsistent franchise." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-10-best-80s-action-movies&captions=true"] There were apparently three different endings to The Predator, and one of which would've paid tribute to Aliens. Both Aliens and the original Predator made it onto IGN's list of the best '80s action movies. Anybody looking for more Predator content can check out the recently released video game Predator: Hunting Grounds, but might want to read IGN's review of the game first. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Petey Oneto is a freelance writer for IGN who thinks Disney should absolutely get a person in a Predator alien costume to walk around Disneyland and take pictures with kids.
