Nintendo Reveals New Coral Switch Lite

Nintendo announced Tuesday a new color, Coral, will join the lineup of the current Switch Lite consoles. It will first release in Japan on March 20, according to a press release from Nintendo. Following shortly afterward, the console will launch in North America on April 3. This version will be available at the same $199.99 / 19,980 yen price as the other three colors: yellow, gray, and turquoise – bringing the palette of color choices up to four, not including special editions like the Pokemon Zacian and Zamazenta or the upcoming Animal Crossing: New Horizons edition. Nintendo Switch Lite Coral 01 Nintendo of America revealed the news of the coral colorway coming to North America in a tweet following the news of the Japanese release. This announcement comes shortly after the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch went up for sale earlier this month. However, it's already sold out across multiple retailers as people tried to purchase it for the upcoming Animal Crossing: New Horizons game release. Despite that version running into problems with the coronavirus, Nintendo stated production on the new color won't be affected as far as the end of March. Although, the Nintendo press release doesn't discuss if there will be any issues going forward after March. However, the virus recently delayed the port of The Outer Worlds to Nintendo Switch as well. Free-To-Play First-Person Shooter Warface Available Now on Nintendo Switch

Warface, the free-to-play first-person shooter built on the CryEngine by Crytek, is available now on the Nintendo Switch, and we have exclusive footage of the game in action. Warface originally launched on PC in 2013 and has made its way to Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and now Nintendo Switch. IGN spoke to Warface's franchise lead at My.Games, Ivan Pabiarzhyn, and Alexandr Shimov, project manager on Warface's console versions, about what Nintendo fans can expect from this new title on Switch. We first asked how Warface utilizes Switch's unique features, like HD Rumble and motion controls. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/18/warface-exclusive-nintendo-switch-gameplay"] "While we had some basic rumble support already in the Warface Xbox One and PS4 versions, we had to adapt it for the Switch Joy-Cons," Shimov said. "The tactile feedback from shooting and receiving damage feels completely different. We also implemented motion controls support, since they’re very useful for making precise shots. And we made them customizable through the menu options, so players can finetune them to their taste." Pabiarzhyn also confirmed that, while it isn't currently available for the console version, crossplay is important to the team and including the Switch version in that is "part of our roadmap." In October 2019, Warface's Facebook page said they are planning on having the feature ready "starting from Q2 [2020]," at least on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. "Launching crossplay between consoles is one of our priorities and we are already working on that," Pabiarzhyn confirmed. "And yes, crossplay with the Nintendo Switch version is part of our roadmap." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/18/warface-nintendo-switch-launch-trailer"] We also asked what it was like working on a service game for so long, especially after seeing the trend of games as a service rise in the past few years. "We were a bit of pioneers in live service games with Warface," Pabiarzhyn answered. "We experimented a lot, updating the game regularly to see what works for our players and what doesn’t. We’re keeping a close eye on our competition, too. The key strategy for us is to keep things fresh - with monthly updates - and expand the franchise to new platforms, like Nintendo Switch. We can’t wait to see what the reception for the Switch version will be like." Warface, which has "over 80 million players worldwide, allows players to battle with over 200 realistic customizable weapons in over 50 multiplayer maps, PvE raids with co-op. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/18/warface-titan-release-trailer"] According to Eurogamer, Warface on the Switch runs at 30FPS/720p in TV mode and 540p in handheld mode. Additionally, Warface is playable online without the need for a Switch Online subscription. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Have a tip for us? Want to discuss a possible story? Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Novelization Features Deleted Scenes

An excerpt from the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker novelization has been released, which expands upon the opening scene of Episode IX. StarWars.com shared an exclusive extract from the novelization that features a scene not seen in theatres, wherein Kylo Ren encounters a strange creature protecting the Sith Wayfinder – providing context for Ren's on-screen confrontation with the Alazmec. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/12/star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker-kylo-ren-and-emperor-palpatine-clip"] From the book: "A giant emerged, a hairless creature sheening with wetness, bits of lake detritus clinging to its pasty skin. Its eyes were squeezed shut, but it could still see after a fashion, because draped over its massive bald head and across one shoulder was a second creature with long spidery tentacles. The two were locked in symbiosis. Kylo sensed the giant’s pain, as though it were a slave to the spidery being that clung to it. Yet neither could it survive alone." It is understood from the excerpt that the "spidery being," formally known as The Eye of the Webbish Bog, had been chosen by Darth Vader to guard the Wayfinder until someone "defeated" his protectors and consequently "earned" the device – which Ren ultimately acquired on his quest to find Exegol. A creature similar to the one described in the book, appeared in alleged concept art from The Rise of Skywalker, though some identified the hairless lake-dweller to be Tor Valum, a 7,000-year-old Lovecraftian alien. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/08/whats-next-for-star-wars-after-the-rise-of-skywalker"] Prior to the release of The Rise of Skywalker, reports indicated that Episode IX would be the longest Star Wars film ever, clocking in at 155 minutes, but before the film landed in theatres the new official runtime of 141 minutes was announced, suggesting that some more material had been cut. Shortly after, an anonymous Reddit user known as "egoshoppe," posted a thread with a fairly complex breakdown, detailing a slew of supposed leaks from, "someone who worked closely on the production of TROS," alluding to a "JJ Cut" of The Rise of Skywalker that hits the three-hour mark. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-upcoming-star-wars-movie&captions=true"] Regardless of whether or not a JJ Cut exists, The Rise of Skywalker novelization, written by Rae Carson, is said to include, "expanded scenes and content not seen in theatres, as well as a few surprises — all culled from deleted scenes, never-before-seen material, and input from the filmmakers." You can read the full extract from the book on the Star Wars website or you can take a look at some leaked concept art from Colin Trevorrow's axed Duel of the Fates film, discover the story behind Kanan's cameo in The Rise of Skywalker, and find out about George Lucas' secret cameos in recent Star Wars films. Google Stadia Is Finally Launching on Non-Google Phones

Stadia, Google’s cloud-based game streaming platform, is finally coming to more than just Google hardware. The company has announced support for a large number of Samsung phones, as well as Razer and Asus devices. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/11/22/google-stadia-review"] Supported in the new compatibility wave are the Samsung Galaxy S8, S9, S10, and S20 devices, which covers the Plus and Note versions of each, too. Both the Razer Phone and its sequel are also supported, as well as the Asus ROG Phone and the ROG Phone 2. Along with the already supported Google Pixel 2, 3, and 4, this brings the total of supported Android devices to 21 models. Not a huge amount, but a significant leap over the three that it previously worked on. Those not looking to use a mobile device to play Stadia on can also use tablets, laptops, and desktops running the Google Chrome browser, and TV’s using Google Chromecast Ultra. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=google-stadia-review&captions=true"] If you’re unsure about Google’s streaming service, be sure to check out our Stadia review and our feature looking at if its rough launch means its doomed forever. If you’ve already joined the world of Stadia, don’t forget that Stadia Pro members can get Metro Exodus and Gylt for free in February. DOOM Devs on Why Some People Like New DOOM but Not New Star Wars

In this month's episode of IGN Unfiltered, Ryan McCaffrey sat down with id Software Executive Producer Marty Stratton and DOOM Eternal Director Hugo Martin to talk about the lasting appeal of DOOM, and how it compares (and sometimes contrasts) to other major properties like Star Wars. "I think, when you see brands, and they struggle a little bit... Like, some of the new Star Wars films, a lot of the fans aren't happy, it's because I don't think that they're cooking with the same ingredients," Martin said. "And the real fans can pick up on that, and that means they won't go with you... on the journey that you're trying to take them on." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/03/the-first-10-minutes-of-doom-eternal-gameplay-4k60fps-ign-first"] When asked how id managed to both recapture the iconic feel of the original DOOM and satisfy modern gamer's expectations when crafting the 2016 reboot, Martin said, "[We were] cooking with the same ingredients." "A big part of good design, it doesn't matter what it is... a car, a movie, or anything... you've gotta evaluate it in the 50,000-foot view and be able to distill it down to the core elements that make it great. A lot of that stuff is kind of operating at a subconscious level and I think our job... the fun part of our job... is to really ask, 'Why do they like that?' The science of what makes something appealing is what makes the job of a designer, and what I find to be endlessly interesting. It's really, really compelling work. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=doom-eternal-january-2019-screenshots&captions=true"] "Once you can figure that out, like, 'Why do people like Star Wars?' Why does someone look at the new Corvette C8 and just have the reaction, 'God, that's gorgeous?' I can tell you, for a fact, that the work that went into that was tremendous. If you understand what makes something tick, it's that, 'Oh my god, that is just awesome!' That means we really got you, regardless of whatever it is." According to Martin, that approach was essential when developing the new DOOM. "A lot of time was spent working to figure out, 'What are the core elements of the DOOM brand?' Not just DOOM the game, or [DOOM] 1, or 2, or 3, or 64, but the DOOM brand as a whole. The metal element, the sense of irreverence, power, all these different things. Figuring out what those ingredients are so, that way, everything we do... make sure that it utilizes those core principles, and then the fans will accept it and go along with you." Baldur’s Gate 3 Gameplay Reveal Will Be Live Streamed From PAX East

The first Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay will be live streamed from PAX East on February 27. Developer Larian is in attendance at PAX East in Boston from February 27 - March 1, and will be debuting the very first gameplay live on stage. The game will be played live by Larian’s founder and creative director, Swen Vincke, along with a “very special guest”. For anyone not in attendance at the show, this gameplay demo will also be live streamed online. Larian promises an in-depth look at Baldur’s Gate 3, covering story, mechanics, and more, with a Q&A panel where questions from those in the audience at the show can be answered by the developer team. The developer also teased what's to come with a cryptic paragraph alluding to players' next adventure on the Sword Coast. "You are burdened with a great power devouring you from within. How far down the path of darkness will you let it take you? The fate of Faerûn is on your party’s shoulders. Will you carry it to salvation, or descend with it to hell?" That final remark may be a reference to Descent Into Avernus, the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop campaign book that acts as a sort of prequel to Baldur's Gate 3. unnamed The clue is accompanied by the above grotesque image, which is presumably linked to the Mind Flayers and the horrific process of ceremorphosis, in which a parasite transforms a host into a tentacled Flayer. The panel takes place at 3:30pm ET / 12:30 PT / 8:30pm UK for both show attendees and live stream views, and further gameplay demos will take place for those at PAX throughout the weekend. Larian claims that there are surprises that “even fans of critically acclaimed Divinity Original Sin 2 wouldn’t expect.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/06/06/baldurs-gate-3-announcement-teaser-uncut"] Baldur’s Gate 3 was officially announced last Summer, where it was revealed that the terrifying Mind Flayers would be a key part of the new chapter’s story, as well as familiar elements like the Flaming Fists, and the infamous city of Baldur’s Gate itself. A return visit to the Sword Coast is long overdue, so hopefully we’ll get a better idea about when we can walk through those gates once more soon. If you’ve never played the beloved Dungeons & Dragons RPG series before, here’s everything new players need to know about Baldur’s Gate 3. Witcher Season 2: Game of Thrones Actor Reportedly Cast As Nivellen

Warning! This article mentions a storyline from The Witcher novels. To learn more about the proper reading order for Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher books, click here. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju is reportedly set to star as Nivellen in the opening episode of Season 2 of The Witcher. Redanian Intelligence reports that Hivju, who played Tormund Giantsbane on Game of Thrones, has been cast under the mysterious moniker "Nigel", which is believed to be a codename for the cursed character of "Nivellen." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/27/the-witcher-season-1-review"] The outlet claims to have procured a casting sheet, which describes Nigel as "a charismatic, witty and funny man" who is from an "aristocratic family and has been cursed for the crimes he has committed in the past." The details of the character profile appear to match Nivellen's backstory, shared in Andrzej Sapkowski's short story entitled "A Grain of Truth", which sees Geralt of Rivia stumble upon a rundown manor, inhabited by a monstrous, cursed nobleman known as Nivellen. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/21/the-witcher-season-1-ending-explained"] If true, Hivju joins an ever-growing cast list for the second season of the fantasy drama, alongside Peaky Blinders actor Paul Bullion who has reportedly been cast as Lambert and Strike Back star Yasen Atour who is apparently set to portray Coën. Elsewhere, Dolittle actress Carmel Laniado recently signed on to play Violet, an all-new character described as "a young girl whose playful and whimsical demeanour is a front for a smarter and more sadistic character." New Witcher 3 Switch Update Adds PC Cross-Save Function

The Witcher 3 on Switch is being updated with the ability to cross-save with PC, via Steam or GOG. This comes as part of the latest patch which also adds new graphics options to the game’s settings menu.

News of PC cross-save for The ‘Switcher’ originally surfaced on Reddit, but CD Projekt RED confirmed to IGN that the functionality is being included in the next patch, due to roll out imminently. The patch includes “touch control support, save file integration with GOG/Steam, more text languages in selected regions and more graphical options. On top of that there are performance optimizations and bugfixes.”

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/19/how-does-the-witcher-3-run-on-switch"]

The PC cross-save function will allow players to download PC saves to the Switch version, allowing them to continue playing when they’re on the move/prefer to use the Switch. This is done through either a GOG or Steam log-in. Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Switch also features this functionality, and the feature was well received.

As for the graphics options, the Reddit leak suggests these will allow players to toggle on or off features such as motion blur, bloom, depth of field, and light shafts. While The Witcher 3 on Switch is never going to look as good as its PC or PS4/Xbox One cousins, these options will certainly help players choose their own graphics balance. Reducing blur should certainly help make the image sharper, hopefully eliminating the almost ‘vaseline’ like haze that the Switch version has by default.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-witcher-3-on-switch-screenshots&captions=true"]

We loved The Witcher 3 on Switch in our review, noting that even with the concessions to get it on Nintendo’s lower-powered console, it’s still one of the best games of the generation. If you’re planning on jumping in for the first time, or are revisiting the Northern Kingdoms for another journey, take a look at the Witcher 3 side quests you really shouldn’t miss.
