Marvel Reveals Open World Mobile Game, Marvel: Future Revolution

Marvel and Netmarble have announced Marvel: Future Revolution, an open-world RPG for mobile. Announced at PAX East, the game comes from the developers of Marvel: Future Fight, and will see players play as part of the ‘Omega Flight’ Super Hero team. According to a press release, the players will, "work together to battle an onslaught of Super Villains, confront their suspicious behaviors and defend the universe." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/02/marvel-future-revolution-teaser-trailer"] Confirmed playable heroes include Captain America, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange, and the open world will merge various Marvel locations, including Xanderth and Sakaar. The game will include new and existing costumes for heroes, with customisation promised. The story is being handled by Marvel Comics writer Marc Sumerak, who also worked on Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=marvel-future-revolution-screenshots&captions=true"] The teaser doesn't give much away about how the game will play but, given its connection to Future Fight, it's fair to assume that it will take an action-RPG approach, with a 3rd person perspective and hero abilities on cooldown timers. Dota Underlords Review – Overwhelming Odds

The auto-battler revolution of 2019 saw a flurry of activity from publishers as they tried to take advantage of the latest craze: Dota 2 Auto Chess. A custom game mod built using Dota 2 itself, Auto Chess was another product of the endless iteration found in the custom map modding scene--Dota was born out of a Warcraft 3 custom map, which iterated on a StarCraft custom map, and Auto Chess itself iterated on a separate Warcraft 3 map, and so on. A year later, Valve's free-to-play interpretation of Auto Chess is one of the few left standing, and for good reason: Dota Underlords is a thrilling game that promotes layered strategy, mental acuity, and the rush that comes with beating overwhelming odds, making it a continually diverse and compelling experience.

Unlike Dota 2, Dota Underlords is a straightforward game. You can easily think of it like a deck builder or drafting game with multiple economies--Dominion, Ascension, or the Legendary series are some good touchstones. Facing off against seven other people, you have to build a team from a selection of heroes presented to you, and that team will then fight in head-to-head battles with others over a series of rounds until only one player remains.

Death Stranding PC Release Coming in June

Death Stranding is officially headed to PC on June 2 via both Steam and the Epic Games Store - and it'll have Half-Life crossover content. Kojima Productions and 505 Games announced the news, revealing new features such as a photo mode, higher frame rate caps, and ultra-wide screen support. As for the Half-Life crossover, we can see it teased in the trailer below - Sam Porter Bridges gets a Valve logo-like ponytail, is wearing the tech-covered gloves we've seen from Half-Life: Alyx, and is seen styling a headcrab hat. Those might even be some Gordon Freeman glasses he's rocking, too. It's not clear just yet how you'll get it in game, however. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/02/death-stranding-pc-release-date-trailer"] Anyone who pre-orders Death Stranding on PC will get a Chiral Gold and Omnireflector cap, sunglasses, gold and silver speed skeleton, and gold and silver armor plate. However, all PC purchases will also get the following:
  • Selections from ‘The Art of DEATH STRANDING’ digital art book (by Titan Books)
  • Death Stranding Original Score Expanded Edition by Ludvig Forsell (including 10 unreleased tracks)
  • Ludens mask sunglasses (chiral gold and omnireflector)
  • Gold and silver power skeleton
  • Gold and silver all-terrain skeleton
  • Gold and silver armour plate (LV2)
The blog post that revealed the release date featured an image below showing all the bonuses. Death Stranding Pre-Order PC Senior Brand Community Manager at 505 Games, Antonela Pounder, wrote in a blog post, "Let us take this opportunity to thank this incredible community for their support since we announced the PC edition of DEATH STRANDING last year. The response has been overwhelming and we’re super grateful for the support you’ve shown us across our social channels. Today is a super exciting day for the team and we hope you guys feel the same way too." For more information on Death Stranding, take a look at what we thought in our review. We were half-expecting Kojima-related news this week, but not this particular story – last week, a member of the Kojima team seemed to tease a Silent Hill game in a very strange way. Kojima himself is also about to receive BAFTA's highest honour for his work in the industry. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jeffrey Lerman is a Freelance News Writer for IGN. Uncharted Movie: Venom’s Ruben Fleischer to Direct

Sony Pictures has officially signed Ruben Fleischer to direct Uncharted, its long-in-development screen adaptation of the video game franchise. Antonio Banderas has also joined the cast, as well as Sophia Ali (Grey's Anatomy) and Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina). The current draft of the screenplay has been handled by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the screenwiritng duo behind 2008's Iron Man. Variety broke the news, but it's not clear who Banderas, Ali or Gabrielle will play at this point. Sony Pictures subsequently confirmed the story to IGN. Fleischer’s name first surfaced in early January as a reported frontrunner to replace Bumblebee director Travis Knight, who bowed out of his Uncharted directing duties due to scheduling issues. In the weeks between initial reports of Fleischer being the studio’s top choice to today’s announcement, Sony shifted the release date of Uncharted from December 18, 2020, to March 5, 2021. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-strange-history-of-the-uncharted-movie&captions=true"] Fleischer is no stranger to making movies for Sony, having directed their blockbuster adaptation of Marvel Comics’ Venom as well as both Zombieland films. Uncharted also won’t be the first video game movie Fleischer has been linked to, as he was attached to direct the big-screen version of Spy Hunter several years ago. Fleischer called Spy Hunter his favorite video game in an interview IGN did with him back in 2013. Fleischer’s hiring caps a storied journey to the silver screen for Uncharted, which previously saw David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy, Dan Trachtenberg, and the aforementioned Travis Knight lined up to direct, only for them to part ways with the project for various reasons. Tom Holland recently revealed to IGN that principal photography is just weeks awayUncharted will star Holland as a younger incarnation of adventurer Nathan Drake opposite Mark Wahlberg as his mentor, Sully. Ironically, Wahlberg had been attached to play Drake back when David O. Russell was going to direct. [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/14/tom-holland-says-uncharted-has-a-solution-to-the-video-game-movie-problem] Holland recently informed IGN at the world premiere of Pixar’s Onward that the Uncharted movie begins filming in roughly four weeks and that it will draw much of its inspiration from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. “There was definitely a lot of inspiration that came from the games, but it's a very young, fresh take on the character because, obviously, we didn't get to meet him all that much when he was younger," Holland told us. "But it's a pretty awesome movie, and it's global. We travel the world, we see some amazing places, and Mark Wahlberg and I are going to have a great summer together." Holland also recently explained to us how Uncharted can prove to be a successful video game movie where so many other screen adaptations have failed. “I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don't is that it's an origin story to the games,” Holland said. “So if you played the games, you haven't seen what's going to happen in the film. And if you haven't played the games, you're going to enjoy the film because it's information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I'm super excited to make that movie and it's been a long time coming.” [poilib element="accentDivider"]

Artemis Fowl Adds Colin Farrell to the Cast As New Trailer Drops

Colin Farrell has officially been cast in Disney's Artemis Fowl as the titular character's father, who also goes by the name of Artemis Fowl. Disney recently released a new trailer and poster for the upcoming live-action movie, showcasing Farrell's role in the Kenneth Branagh adaptation, which is based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer. Watch the new trailer for the fantastical, spellbinding adventure below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/02/artemis-fowl-official-trailer"] Up until now, Farrell's name had not been attached to the project, however, footage from the new trailer confirms that he will be playing the father of the lead character, who is a 12-year-old criminal mastermind that finds himself being pulled into a secret underground world of fairies, dwarves and trolls. The actor makes a further appearance on the new poster, also released on Monday. Check it out below:

Artemis Fowl Poster

Farrell joins the cast alongside Ferdia Shaw as Artemis Fowl Jnr, Lara McDonnell as Captain Holly Short, Josh Gad as Mulch Diggums, Tamara Smart as Juliet, Nonso Anozie as Butler, Josh McGuire as Briar Cudgeon, Nikesh Patel as Foaly, Adrian Scarborough as The Goblin Chief and Miranda Raison as Angeline Fowl, together with Judi Dench as Commander Root.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-upcoming-disney-live-action-remake&captions=true"] Director Branagh previously told IGN that he saw parallels between the way in which he conceived the first Thor movie and the way in which he was now trying to create the world of Artemis Fowl, saying that "a very contemporary feeling -- still heightened world of science -- is right next door to a world of magic." For more on the creative process, read our full interview with Branagh who gave us an inside look into the world of his new fantasy film, which is due to hit theaters on May 29, 2020. Dinosaur DNA Found Remarkably Preserved in 75 Million Year-Old Fossil

Scientists have discovered organic material within 75-million year old dinosaur fossils, including cartilage cells, proteins, chromosomes, and DNA. Paleontologist researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and North Carolina University published a paper on National Science Review detailing the discovery, which was found within skull fragments from a Hypacrosaurus. This duck-billed herbivore lived during the Cretaceous period and was a ‘nestling’, meaning it was still very young when it died. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/06/10/jurassic-world-video-review"] The fragments contain some preserved cartilage cells, which are host to structures that appear to be chromosomes. After detailed tests and comparing the results against samples from modern emu skulls, it appears that antibodies from a protein commonly found in animal cartilage can be detected in the fossils. Tests were also run for DNA. A staining substance that binds to DNA was applied to the Hypacrosaurus cells, and the result was similar to what would be expected of modern cells. This is surprising as modern day thinking suggests that DNA will only survive for about a million years, but the fossils date back 75 million years. “These new exciting results add to growing evidence that cells and some of their biomolecules can persist in deep-time,” says Alida Bailleul, who is one of the lead authors of the paper. “They suggest DNA can preserve for tens of millions of years, and we hope that this study will encourage scientists working on ancient DNA to push current limits and to use new methodology in order to reveal all the unknown molecular secrets that ancient tissues have.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-deaths-in-the-jurassic-park-movies&captions=true"] This isn’t the first time scientists have discovered elements like this in ancient fossils. A few years ago scientists at Imperial College London found blood cells in a fossilized dinosaur claw. In other discoveries, the oldest meat-eating dinosaur was recently discovered in Brazil. Marvel’s WandaVision Wraps Production With Celebratory Cast Photo

Marvel's WandaVision has seemingly wrapped filming ahead of its release on Disney+ this coming December. Taking to Instagram over the weekend, crew member Taylor Grabowsky posted a huge group photo to celebrate the end of their lengthy production on the Marvel TV series, commending the extensive cast and crew for being the "best in the world." WandaVision Wrap Party In the accompanying caption, Grabowsky wrote: "Guys, I may or may not have gone a little overboard on the photobooth, though how can you not with these beauts?! Thankful for the BEST crew in the world, and not only were they up to the challenge, every person here helped to make this show beyond special!" Alongside the message, Grabowsky tagged Marvel Studios together with a hashtag confirming that the photos were taken at the WandaVision wrap party in Atlanta, Georgia. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/27/wandavision-is-the-mcus-first-sitcom"] Marvel's WandaVision was initially slated to debut in 2021, but the release date was recently moved up to December 2020, edging closer towards the release of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in August. As it stands, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is still set to be the first MCU spinoff series on the Disney+ release calendar, though it appears that this highly-anticipated miniseries is still currently in production. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=marvels-wandavision-all-the-tv-sitcom-influences&captions=true"] While little is known about the plot of WandaVision, Paul Bettany has previously described it as "the oddest of all the Marvel endeavours so far." To find out more about the mysterious MCU spinoff series, discover how WandaVision might tie into Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, which is also set to feature Scarlet Witch, and check out our deep dive into the comic books that might have inspired the upcoming Marvel "sitcom." FIFA 20 Pros Decide Match With Rock, Paper, Scissors Due to Server Issues

Two professional FIFA 20 players had to decide who would be the winner of a qualifying match for a tournament with a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors over the weekend.

Red Bull's Shaun Galea and free agent Hasan Eker were competing against each other to qualify in the FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) Champions Cup Stage V on February 29, 2020. Unfortunately, EA's online services experienced many problems over the weekend (now apparently resolved), which meant that both players failed to connect to the servers and each other twice.

As EA's statement on the matter says, "a double-failure to connect and compete in a qualifying tournament match results in a loss for both participants. This is to prevent connection issues from being exploited as a competitive advantage." However, rather than both automatically lose, the two pros took matters into their own hands and played Rock, Paper, Scissors to decide the winner.

Eker won with three rounds to one. However, EA let both players go on to play more qualifying matches afterwards, but neither of them advanced any further in the tournament. EA's statement says that it's "reviewing this really unique situation to understand what occurred and try to prevent this from happening again, especially as both competitors competed in subsequent matches with clean connections."

This game of Rock, Paper, Scissors is far from the only issue that FUT Champions Cup qualifiers experienced over the weekend. Giuseppe Guastella, a pro FIFA player for LA Galaxy, failed to qualify for the North American qualifiers after a last penalty kick wasn't registered as a goal despite it clearly being one.

Guastella provided video proof and released a statement that asked, "how can anyone take the game seriously when EA can't take the game seriously and fix these elementary school issues?"

FIFA pro and head coach for AS Roma Esports, Nathan Horton, also released a statement that expressed his disappointment over the state of FIFA 20 esports. He says that some of the issues with the game have simple fixes and that "blatant cheating needs to be eradicated" from FIFA 20.

Due to the server issues, EA did extend the Weekend League for 24 hours to give players a chance to qualify for the tournament.

In further FIFA 20 controversy, last week EA permanently banned pro player Kurt Fenech from all of its games and online services. EA says that Fenech crossed “a line of decency into very personal attacks and breach our Terms of Service.” A number of EA FIFA staff Twitter accounts were hacked in retaliation to Fenech's ban.
