Check Out What’s New to Amazon Video This April

Amazon Prime Video is dropping the sixth season of its popular crime drama, Bosch, starring Titus Welliver as the titular Los Angeles detective. In Season 6, Bosch must investigate the murder of a medical physicist and the whereabouts of some radioactive material that's gone missing. Amazon recently announced that the long-running series will come to end after the conclusion of its seventh season, which will premiere in 2021. On the movie front, the streamer is adding The Lighthouse, starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe. In our review of The Lighthouse, we say, "Robert Eggers’ sophomore effort should do for remote lighthouses what The Shining did for remote hotels, the film being less a battle of wits, and more a question of who will lose their wits first." If you're not a Prime member, you can sign up for a 30-day free Amazon Prime trial and reap all the benefits, including streaming Amazon Video. That means you have the opportunity to check out every new video this month without having to pay for it. Check out the slideshow gallery below for a spotlight of some of the most notable April Amazon offerings, followed by everything else coming to Amazon Prime Video in April: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=amazon-spotlight-april-2020&captions=true"] [poilib element="accentDivider"]

Netflix’s Dragon’s Lair: Ryan Reynolds In Talks to Star in Video Game Movie

Netflix is adapting another iconic video game franchise, with none other than Ryan Reynolds in talks to star in and produce a live-action film adaptation of Dragon's Lair. First revealed by The Hollywood Reporter and then confirmed by Netflix's Twitter account, Reynolds is in talks to star as hero knight Dirk the Daring, the hero charged with rescuing Princess Daphne from a vicious dragon. This news comes hours after Netflix officially announced its Castlevania animated series is getting a fourth season. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-video-game-movie-in-development-almost&captions=true"] Assuming a deal is finalized, Reynolds will produce the movie through his company Maximum Effort. The movie will also be produced by Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Underground Films' Trevor Engelson, along with Don Bluth, Gary Goldman and Jon Pomeroy. Originally created by Bluth and Rick Dyer, Dragon's Lair first debuted in video arcades in 1983. Despite its limited interactivity, Dragon's Lair was notable for taking advantage of Laserdisc technology and featuring far more detailed sprite graphics than most games of the time. Dragon's Lair has been ported (with varying degrees of success) to numerous home consoles over the years, including recent ports for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Playstation 4. The game also boosted the popularity of both Bluth and Goldman, who eventually went on to lead the creation of films like Secret of NIMH, An American Tail, All Dogs Go to Heaven, The Land Before Time, and Anastasia. This isn't the first attempt to adapt Dragon's Lair to other media. ABC aired a short-lived Dragon's Lair animated series in 1984, and CrossGen published a comic book adaptation in 2003. Bluth and Goldman previously ran a Kickstarter campaign in 2015 aimed at funding a short proof-of-concept teaser for a Dragon's Lair animated movie. While that campaign failed, the duo were successful after shifting the campaign to Indiegogo. However, it appears that animated adaptation has been repalced by a live-action treatment instead. Given the nature of the original game and Netflix's previous experiments with interactive programming like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, we could easily see Dragon's Lair being developed as an interactive movie. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/11/01/is-there-enough-interest-to-fund-a-dragons-lair-movie-game-scoop"] Do you think Reynolds is the right choice for Dragon's Lair? Do you want the movie to have an interactive component? Let us know what you think in the comments below. Jared Leto Dressed Up as Joe Exotic to Host a Tiger King Viewing Party

Jared Leto made the most of his Thursday night by dressing up as Joe Exotic, a central figure in the Netflix True-crime documentary Tiger King, which Leto was hosting a viewing for on Twitter. Leto announced Wednesday afternoon that he would be hosting a Tiger King viewing party that night at 6 p.m. PDT on Twitter. The tweet came with a picture of Leto's face edited onto Joe Exotic, who is the subject of the documentary miniseries and the most-watched program of the day on Netflix in the United States. The series focuses on an eccentric man who bought an Oklahoma horse farm in the 90s and converted it into a zoo. The Netflix Twitter account clarified 30 minutes before the event began that it would be a viewing party of just the first episode.

leto 1

Leto posted his first tweet one minute before the 6 p.m. start time. "Got my popcorn. Pressing play on #TigerKing Episode 1. Let’s do this @Netflix #JaredLetoCinemaClub," Leto wrote. An image accompanying the tweet showed Leto in a colorful collared shirt in the essence of the flamboyant subject of the documentary. Instead of a real tiger, Leto has what looks like a stuffed animal bracelet.

leto 2

Leto then says in a follow-up tweet that he's already seen the entire series and promises viewers a wild "ride." In his next two tweets, he thanked Netflix "for keeping us entertained during this challenging time" and thanked Joe "for keeping fringe alive."

The multi-hyphenate consistently commented on the wardrobe of the people in the documentary and found a striking comparison between a shirt that he previously wore and a shirt that somebody wears in the show.

Leto tweeted throughout the episode and ended his viewing party with more praise for the Netflix miniseries.

"Wow. Mind blown again - end of episode one," Leto wrote. "Masterful direction and great job to all involved with the production!!!"

Tiger King consists of seven episodes running 40-50 minutes each and was released on March 20 on Netflix. IGN's review of the series calls it "a fascinating and depressing look inside a community of big cat fanatics." Kate McKinnon is starring in a scripted miniseries based on Joe Exotic's story, and Dax Shepard and Edward Norton are fan-casting themselves as Joe Exotic.

For those that have seen the series, here is what the subjects of the series are doing today. Leto was also in the news himself recently after finding out about the coronavirus way later than most people.

The Cast of Contagion Has a New PSA for You

Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health has aligned the stars of the 2011 pandemic movie Contagion to help illuminate people on how to stay safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic through a series of public service announcements. The PSAs kicked off Friday with one from Matt Damon, who played everyman Mitch Emhoff in the Steven Soderbergh-directed thriller. "In the movie, I played a guy who was immune to the hypothetical virus that was spreading around the world. So, a few things to start. One, that was a movie, this is real life," Damon said in the PSA, which you can view below. "I have no reason to believe I'm immune to COVID-19. And neither do you, no matter how young you are." Kate Winslet, who played CDC epidemiologist Dr. Erin Mears in Contagion, recalled the lessons she learned from the public health experts she met with doing research for the role and also instructed viewers on the proper ways to wash their hands and disinfect surfaces: Cast members Laurence Fishburne and Jennifer Ehle also recorded COVID-19 PSAs, which you can view at Mailman's YouTube channel's Control the Contagion playlist. Also be sure to check out our guide on how to stay safe, and help out, during the pandemic. And if you're looking to stream Contagion while you're self-isolating at home, well, you can't. Right now the movie isn't streaming anywhere, which, as The Verge reports, has led to a spike in iTunes rentals and torrent downloads. Games Done Quick Announces Coronavirus Relief Marathon, Delays SGDQ

The Games Done Quick organization has officially announced a new speedrunning marathon, Corona Relief Done Quick, to help raise funds against the coronavirus pandemic. Alongside the announcement of an online-only marathon, the organizers are postponing Summer Games Done Quick 2020 to run between August 16 and 23. It was originally scheduled for June in Bloomington, Minnesota, where the event will still be hosted. "Games Done Quick is actively monitoring updates from WHO, CDC, local governments, and public health agencies regarding COVID-19 and continuing to assess the situation," Games Done Quick announced via a press release. Despite the postponing of SGDQ, the Corona Relief Done Quick marathon will be hosted on Twitch with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Direct Relief. It will take place next month from April 17 to 19 on the Games Done Quick Twitch channel. The games list and schedule will be released on April 13, for those wondering what's planned. And speedrunners interested in taking part in the charity event have until April 2 to submit. More information regarding submissions is available on the Games Done Quick website. Another speedrunning organization raising money to combat COVID-19 is Calithon, which just announced Coronavirus Relief. The California event will take place from April 3 to 5 on the group's Twitch channel, Calithon. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=games-to-play-while-stuck-at-home&captions=true"] With over $25 million raised for charity in the speedrunning organization's history, it raised over $3 million in their last event, Awesome Games Done Quick. Speedrunner TomatoAngus raced through every Fallout game during the event in a little over 2 hours. Netflix Announces Castlevania: Season 4 Renewal

Netflix has renewed its Castlevania animated series for a fourth season. The news was revealed via Netflix's official Twitter account. The announcement was accompanied by a brief clip from Season 3, featuring Devil Forgemaster Isaac peering into his magic mirror. No other details have been revealed regarding Season 4, including release date or episode count. We wouldn't expect the new season to drop anytime soon. Season 3 was originally announced in October 2018, just days after Season 2 made its debut, but it didn't actually arrive until March 2020. Based on that timeframe, it'll likely be mid to late 2021 before Castlevania: Season 4 finally drops. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=castlevania-season-3-gallery&captions=true"] We have little doubt the wait will be worth it, however. IGN gave Season 3 a perfect 10 rating, saying, "Castlevania's unique combination of sarcastic humor, supernatural horror, violent action and deep pathos makes it far and away the best video game adaptation around." Season 3 does give us some hints as to where the plot may be headed. Check out our full breakdown of Season 3's dramatic ending, and learn how the series may have just opened the door to executive producer Adi Shankar's Devil May Cry series. Tiger King: Dax Shepard and Edward Norton Are Fan Casting Themselves as Joe Exotic

It's hard to scroll through social media without coming across somebody talking about Netflix's popular Tiger King series (or, in the case of Jared Leto, just dressing as Joe Exotic and hosting a viewing party) and now other celebrities are joining in on the action by fan casting themselves in a hypothetical biopic - without realizing there's already a Joe Exotic scripted series in the works, with Kate McKinnon set to play Carole Baskin. Even before Netflix's Tiger King took the internet by storm - leading many to wonder what happened to Joe Exotic, Carole Baskin, and Doc Antle after the docuseries stopped filming - a scripted Joe Exotic TV show has been in development since November 2019, with McKinnon also executive producing. But a number of celebrity fans of the Netflix series are already dream-casting themselves; Dax Shepard started the discussion that eventually spun out to include other stars like Edward Norton, Justin Long, and Jim Gaffigan. Shepard and Norton jokingly went toe-to-toe for the role of Joe "Exotic" Schreibvogel. Check it out below. Screen Shot 2020-03-27 at 9.28.23 AM   [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-netflix-original-movies-and-tv-shows&captions=true"] This mention of "Machinest" is a reference to The Machinist starring Christian Bale, where the actor lost a significant amount of weight for the role. The conversation didn't end there, though, as Justin Long jumped in to add that Jim Gaffigan should play Bhagavan 'Doc' Antle. Screen Shot 2020-03-27 at 9.28.56 AM Shepard responded to tell Long that Gaffigan is a great choice for the role (while others on Twitter have suggested Tim Robbins) and added that Channing Tatum should play Shepard's Joe Exotic's "toothless first husband," John Finlay. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/03/10/top-25-crime-movies"] These celebrities were speaking hypothetically, but they might actually get the chance to bring their tweets to fruition, given McKinnon's limited series, which is in the works at Universal Cable Productions. This series will be based on the second season of Wondery's Over My Dead Body podcast about Joe Exotic. TVLine reveals that a UCP representative told them that the Joe Exotic series remains in active development as of March 24. China Recloses All Its Cinemas

All Chinese cinemas have reportedly been ordered to close their doors again, just a short while after some venues were permitted to resume trading after being suspended for months. According to The Hollywood Reporter, China's national film bureau issued a decree to exhibitors on Friday, ordering all cinemas to shutdown while offering no reason for the policy change or a timeframe for reopening. However, the outlet reports that "industry insiders instantly began speculating that the government was worried about a potential second wave of coronavirus infections." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/13/how-coronavirus-delays-are-impacting-2020-movies-ign-now"] Approximately 600 small venues out of the country's 70,000 movie theatres reopened over the course of the past week after initially shutting all of their cinemas in January, as a lockdown measure to help prevent the further spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). Earlier in the week, China Film Group unveiled a plan to attract customers and fill seats with a programme of blockbuster films, including the Avengers franchise, James Cameron's Avatar, and Christopher Nolan's Inception and Interstellar, making the reversal on the country's decision to gradually reopen their complexes even more surprising to stakeholders. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/31/top-100-movies-of-the-decade"] "This second closure will not be a one- or two-week issue," an executive at a major exhibition company told the publication. "They are going to be even more cautious when they attempt to reopen again — and this will set us back a long time." Elsewhere, production and distribution executives reportedly expressed their concerns over the limited options available to studios, as regulators have apparently discouraged the sale of unreleased feature films to local streaming services in order to boost the country's theatrical exhibition infrastructure with new titles once everything is back up and running. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-delayed-movie-due-to-coronavirus-so-far&captions=true"] While more and more movie theatres have been forced to temporarily shutdown as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, streaming services have moved even further into the spotlight, as consumers have been looking for alternative ways to connect with their friends without having to leave the comfort of their sofas. Some have turned to Netflix Party, a Google Chrome extension that allows multiple users to stream a Netflix show or movie together at the same time, however, a recent surge in online traffic has presented new concerns over bandwidth strain. As a result, Netflix and YouTube have committed to defaulting streaming quality to standard definition across Europe. Resident Evil Resistance Beta Postponed on PS4 and Steam

Capcom has announced the Resident Evil Resistance beta has been postponed on PlayStation 4 and Steam due to technical issues. However, the Xbox One version is unaffected and currently available for download. Announced on Twitter, Capcom did not offer any kind of timetable for when the Resistance beta would be available. With the Resident Evil 3 Remake set to release on April 3, hopefully it won't be too long. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=resident-evil-3&captions=true"] Resident Evil Resistance is a multiplayer horror survival mode, where four players face off against a Mastermind. The four players' goal is simple – survive – while the Mastermind is responsible for setting a variety of obstacles and traps to try and prevent survival. Thus far, there are four confirmed Masterminds for Resistance – Daniel Fabron, Annette Birkin, Alex Wesker, and Ozwell E. Spencer. Each Mastermind will have their own unique set of abilities, giving some variety to the role. Additionally, Capcom has confirmed there will be both a prison and casino themed map available at launch. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/27/resident-evil-3-jill-valentine-trailer"] Resistance is part of the Resident Evil 3 Remake which was announced in December. The game will feature protagonist Jill Valentine and the infamous antagonist Nemesis. Not only will he be scarier than ever, but he is trying to eliminate members of the Special Tactics And Rescue Service team, more commonly referred to as STARS. A demo of the Resident Evil 3 Remake released on March 17 and is currently available for download in your platform's store. In the meantime, be sure to check out everything we know about the Resident Evil 3 Remake guide for a full rundown ahead of its April release.
