John Wick TV Series Will Explore the Origins of Franchise’s Characters

While we had previously know that Starz and Lionsgate's planned TV series The Continental would be set in the early history of the John Wick franchise, one of the key creatives behind John Wick has now revealed that the show will also explore the origins of some of the movies' supporting characters. In a chat with Fandom (via ScreenRant), director Chad Stahelski, who has helmed all three John Wick films and is also expected to direct the series' premiere episode, revealed additional details about what differentiates The Continental from the John Wick movie franchise. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/22/john-wick-chapter-3-parabellum-bike-scene-choreography-exclusive-clip"] Stahelski said the TV series will utilize "a different perspective on the whole world, it’s coming at it from different characters’ points of view and what the breadth of the world is." The director said that while the John Wick movies are told over the period of a few days in the life of the title character and from his perspective, The Continental will have "a very different timeline structure and a very different perspective of character. About how deep the world goes, and not just about assassins but everything that’s included. And a lot of the origin stories are some of the characters that you see in Wick." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-action-movies-on-netflix-right-now&captions=true"] It was previously reported that The Continental won't air until after John Wick 4 comes out. And since that film's release date has now been postponed a whole year, it seems The Continental won't be open for business until 2022 at the earliest.

Guilty Gear Strive Delayed Until 2021 Due to Covid-19

Arc System Works announced that its upcoming fighting game, Guilty Gear Strive, has been delayed to 2021. The newest Guilty Gear fighting game was originally scheduled to be released later this year, but the developers announced on Twitter that this is no longer the case. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/11/17/6-minutes-of-direct-feed-guilty-gear-2020-gameplay"] Guilty Gear Strive producer Takeshi Yamanaka announced the delay in a tweet from the official Arc System Works Twitter account. Yamanaka cited the impact caused by COVID-19 as a reason for the delay.
“While our company’s staff and our business partners are putting in a sincere effort in dealing with the changes due to the spread of COVID-19, every aspect of our development schedule has faced delays. In addition, we have decided to set up a schedule to further improve the quality of the game responding to everyone’s help and feedback from the recent closed beta test.”
Guilty Gear Strive was announced in 2019. Rather than a sequel to Guilty Gear Xrd, Guilty Gear Strive was billed as a reboot for the franchise. The roster of announced characters currently includes Sol Badguy, Ky Kiske, May, Faust, Potemkin, Chipp Zanuff, Zato-1, Millia Rage, Axl Low. Here’s Why It Takes Three Guys to Play The Mandalorian

While we wait for Season 2 of The Mandalorian to drop on Disney+ in October 2020, the streamer continues to produce new Mando content each week, with an in-depth docuseries about the making of Season 1. In episode 3 of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, titled "Cast," series showrunner Jon Favreau interviews Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, and Carl Weathers about their unique roles in the series. One of the more interesting pieces of information we learned about Season 1 is that it takes three men to bring Mando to life, with each of them offering a particular set of skills. "I am third fiddle to two incredible guys -- Brendan Wayne and Lateef [Crowder]," Pascal explained of his stuntmen. "I’m modeling my performance around their physicality in a lot of ways, and I wouldn’t be able to do it without them." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=disney-gallery-the-mandalorian-images&captions=true"] According to Pascal, Brendan Wayne is particularly handy with a gun so he takes care of the "gunslinger aspect" of Mando. Crowder, on the other hand, is highly adept at Capoeira and Jujutsu. Pascal says Crowder "can basically do anything." Wayne is the grandson of legendary actor John Wayne and has worked on TV shows such as Agents of SHIELD and Sons of Anarchy. Crowder has an impressive resume of stunt work on films like Wonder Woman, Deadpool 2, and Furious 7. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/04/23/disney-gallery-star-wars-the-mandalorian-official-trailer"] When Favreau asked Carano if she could tell the three men apart while they were wearing the armor, she said, "you all brought the physicality, the incredible acting and the brotherhood. So you all make up the Mandalorian. And I have such a good connection with all of you guys.” For more Star Wars, check out Disney's announcement of a new Star Wars movie directed by Taika Waititi, our review of the series finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and this stunning Star Wars concept art. The Original, Unproduced BvS “Was the Darkest Thing You’ve Ever Seen”

If you thought Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was dark, the original incarnation of the project from the early 2000s would have been "the darkest thing you’ve ever seen" had it been produced, according to its screenwriter. That project had Wolfgang Petersen (Das Boot, Troy) set to direct, with Colin Farrell lined up to portray the Dark Knight and Jude Law as the Man of Steel. In an interview with Collider, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman -- the Batman Forever and Batman & Robin screenwriter who rewrote the original screenplay by Se7en's Andrew Kevin Walker -- pulled the curtain back on the ambitious superhero epic, which was many years ahead of the sort of dark and gritty DC movie-verse we would (briefly) get from director Zack Snyder. "It was really The World’s Finest, in a kind of dark and interesting way. I think it could have been lovely," Goldsman said. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=actors-who-almost-played-batman&captions=true"] Goldsman, who confirmed that Farrell and Law were the actors they wanted to play the leads, recalled "we were in prep and it was the darkest thing you’ve ever seen. It started with Alfred’s funeral and Bruce has fallen in love and renounced being Batman, the Joker kills his wife, and then you discover it was all a lie." He continued: "Just that the love itself was constructed by the Joker to break [Bruce]. It was a time where you would be able to get these sort of stories together in script form but they couldn’t quite land in the world. Somehow, the expectations of the object — whether they be audience or corporate or directorial — it wasn’t landing quite in the way I think we imagined when we put them on the page.” Jude Law told talk show host Stephen Colbert in 2016 that he ultimately turned down the role of Superman because he didn't like the costume. IGN spoke to Colin Farrell about his brush with the role of Batman back in 2012, which you can watch in the video below. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2012/08/02/colin-farrell-on-almost-playing-batman"] Colin Farrell, of course, would eventually be cast as the Penguin in Matt Reeves' The Batman, while Jude Law joined the MCU as Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel. What do you think of these story details about the Batman v Superman movie that might have been? Let us know in the comments.

Cyberpunk 2077 Shows Off Mad Max-Inspired Car

In celebration of the fifth anniversary of vehicle-packed blockbuster Mad Max Fury Road, CDProjekt Red has revealed a new car from Cyberpunk 2077: the Reaver. Posted to the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account, a short clip shows the black vehicle, adorned in turquoise decals and red trim. The Reaver is a custom-built car built by the Wraiths, one of the gangs of Night City. It’s based on a Quandra Type-66 car, and boasts “near 1000 horsepower”. If the car were real, it’d have the power of an Aston Martin Valhalla or Ferrari SF90 Stradale. “You will ride eternal, shiny and chrome,” the tweet says, echoing the War Boys of Mad Max Fury Road. However, the car itself more so echoes Max’s V8 Interceptor - affectionately known as the Pursuit Special - more than the rusty, spike-dressed vehicles of Immortan Joe’s cult. Power Rangers Is Going Back to Its Dinosaur Roots for Season 28

Power Rangers Beast Morphers is still roaring through its second season, but that doesn't mean we can't look ahead to the next team of Rangers ready to defend the Earth. IGN can exclusively reveal that the 28th season in the iconic franchise is titled Power Rangers Dino Fury, which will premiere in 2021. The new installment is adapted from the 43rd season of Japan's Super Sentai series, known as Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger, utilizing that show's battle footage and monsters. Here's the plot summary for Power Rangers Dino Fury: "When an army of powerful alien beings is unleashed on Earth, threatening life as we know it, a brand-new team of Power Rangers, fueled by the pre-historic power of the dinosaurs, are recruited to deal with the threat." Power Rangers Dino Fury continues the dino-powered theme that's been prevalent in Power Rangers since it began with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in 1993. (Other dinosaur-themed teams have included Dino Thunder in 2004 and Dino Charge in 2015, for those keeping track). Even better, the Rangers have knight-themed weaponry - including their own swords. While we don't yet know who'll be playing the Dino Fury Rangers, you can check out their costumes and the show's logo below. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Will Follow Spock and the Enterprise Crew

CBS All Access has announced a series order for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a series featuring Star Trek: Discovery's Captain Pike, Number One and Spock. Strange New Worlds will be based on the years that Captain Christopher Pike commanded the U.S.S. Enterprise, and will feature the returning Anson Mount as Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. These actors portrayed these same characters in CBS All Access' Discovery too. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=what-the-casts-of-star-trek-are-binging&captions=true"] "The series will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock and Number One in the decade before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise as they explore new worlds around the galaxy," according to CBS. The series premiere was written by Akiva Goldsman with a story by Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet. These three will serve as executive producers for the series in addition to Henry Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth. Aaron Baiers, Akela Cooper and Davy Perez will serve as co-executive producers. Goldsman will remain an executive producer on Star Trek: Picard as well. "Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, and Ethan Peck's portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on Star Trek: Discovery last season," CBS All Access Executive Vice President and Head of Programming Julie McNamara said. "This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek." Only last year, we asked Anson Mount what he wanted from a Captain Pike show, given the huge fan response to his work in the role - here's hoping he gets at least some of what he wanted. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/09/25/is-star-trek-discovery-worth-a-streaming-subscription"] Strange New Worlds will join Discovery and Picard on CBS All Access when it launches on the streaming service. The franchise will get its second-ever animated series with Star Trek: Lower Decks on the service as well. A Section 31 show is also being planned starring Michelle Yeoh. And a CG-animated Star Trek series for younger audiences is also in the works at Nickelodeon. No release date was announced for Strange New Worlds. For more Star Trek, read about how we thought the season finale of Picard was good, giving it a 7 out of 10. For Season 2 of Picard, Star Trek actor Jonathan Frakes will return to the director's chair. Elsewhere in the Star Trek universe, William Shatner said not to expect a Kirk series after Picard.
