Nintendo’s Jump Rope Challenge Is Available Now on Switch

Nintendo has announced and released Jump Rope Challenge, a free simple game that uses a pair of Joy-Con to allow Switch owners around the world to virtually jump rope anywhere without a jump rope. Revealed by Nintendo's Twitter, Jump Rope Challenge was created by a few Nintendo developers who were working from home in Japan and wanted "to add quick and fun physical movement into their daily life." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=jump-rope-challenge-screenshots&captions=true"] Jump Rope Challenge will be free until September 30, and it also allows for a friend to join in on the jump roping fun with another set of Joy-Con. However, it is important to note that Jump Rope Challenge is not compatible with Nintendo Switch Lite. Prior to this surprise announcement, Paper Mario: The Origami King was one of the only upcoming Nintendo-developed games that have been officially announced with a date for the immediate future. Following its July 17 release date, much of Nintendo's plan is unknown, so it's a small treat to have this smaller new experience from Nintendo themselves. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/12/paper-mario-the-origami-king-a-closer-look-trailer"] We know it is working on much-anticipated games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 and Metroid Prime 4, but those have yet to receive any release dates or release windows. There have been reports of a Super Mario remaster collection that would include such games as Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Sunshine, but those are only rumors as of this writing. Put together Jump Rope Challenge and Ring Fit Adventure, and Nintendo is doing its part to keep you in-shape during the stay-at-home policies due to COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. PAX Australia 2020 Cancelled Due to Ongoing COVID-19 Concerns

The PAX Aus team have confirmed that PAX Australia 2020 will not take place as scheduled in the wake of the continuing coronavirus crisis. The expo – the largest of its type in Australia – was set to take place from October 9 to 11, 2020 in Melbourne, Victoria. “It is with a heavy heart that today we announce the postponement of PAX Australia 2020, due to the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 in Australia and globally,” said a statement published today on the PAX website. “We have been working hard with our partners and exhibitors to explore all viable options but with our desire to bring you the best PAX Aus ever, the next edition of PAX Aus will now take place in 2021.” Australia’s borders are currently closed. Only Australian citizens, residents, and immediate family members can travel to Australia at this time. There are also varying levels of restrictions on domestic travel. “While we can’t move forward with PAX Aus 2020 in the way that we normally would, we are finding new and exciting ways to connect you and the PAX community with your favourite content and creators,” continued the statement. “Stay tuned to our social media channels in the coming days as we start to announce more information.” PAX Aus was the first PAX event hosted outside the US and has been held in Melbourne annually since its inception in 2013. No new announcement has been made concerning PAX West. In April ReedPop announced that the expo would go forward as planned from September 4 to September 7 at the Seattle Convention Center, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. T-Mobile Is Down and It’s Affecting Voice Calls and Messaging

If you’re a member of T-Mobile’s phone network, you may be experiencing voice and messaging problems. This also means that if you’re on another carrier like AT&T or Verizon, making a call or sending a text to a T-Mobile user will also result in an error. Earlier today, T-Mobile users (IGN staff included) have experienced issues with placing calls over the network. T-Mobile president of technology Neville Ray confirmed that there are outages across its network for voice and messaging. However, T-Mobile has since worked on the problem enough that data services are available. That means apps that use wi-fi data like WhatsApp, Signal, iMessage, and more are available to use now. Though there’s still no word on when voice and messaging will resume normal services. However, the domino effect of T-Mobile’s problems means that services owned by the company like Sprint and Boost Mobile are also experiencing problems. There’s no word yet on when T-Mobile will fully resolve its network issues. But if you’re a T-Mobile carrier experiencing call problems, the issues have persisted up until the time of 4:25 pm PT. Destroy All Humans!: What’s Been Added in the Remake

The Destroy All Humans! remake isn't just attempting to polish up the original game, but adding to it to make it feel like a modern version of the 2005 destruction sandbox. In an interview as part of IGN Expo today, Black Forest Games' Dennis Schiefer and Stefan Schmitz covered what has been added along the way while showing off 12 minutes of new gameplay (which you can watch below). The overall philosophy from Schiefer is, "We're not making a remake of the original game, we're making remake of the memories players have of that game." While the core of the original game's on-foot combat, psycic abilities and UFO combat all remain intact, Black Forest has added synergies between weapons and psychic powers meaning, for instance, you can throw a grenade and then propel it with telekinesis to fire it more like a rocket. Crypto's flying saucer can now also shoot its death ray directly downwards, Independence Day-style, to indulge the UFO fantasy better. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/15/destroy-all-humans-12-minutes-of-destruction-fire-explosions-and-campy-chaos"] Controls were also a major focus for Black Forest Games, implementing fixes from the Destroy All Humans sequels and adding them to the first game - as well as adding a lock-on system, a new dash move, and the Skate ability, which lets you fly through the world at high speed. Destroy All Humans! will be released for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Stadia on July 28. Corepunk: 60% of the Game Will Be Endgame Content

Corepunk – the upcoming traditional style MMORPG – will include a huge endgame, with 60% of the game's content designed for those who reach the highest possible level. Revealed as part of today's IGN Expo, we got a look at brand new gameplay from the game - which is designed to feel like classic MMOs, but with a seamless world and fog of war. Alongside the gameplay, we spoke to producer Eugene Kiver, who discussed how the game is built for those who'll dedicate the most time to it. "That's a problem for modern MMOs - too little of high-end content. Basically, 40% of our game is for you to get to the cap level, and after that 60% of the game is high-level content. It's open world, it's a vast wilderness where you can find rare monsters, rare world bosses. That's dungeons: randomly-generated dungeons and custom dungeons. There's also raids, arenas, battlegrounds - just plenty of things to do." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/15/why-corepunk-is-bringing-fog-of-war-to-a-top-down-mmo"] In fact, much of the game's design seems to have been built to run counter to current trends in the massively multiplayer game space. Kiver points to the fact that the genre is currently focused on instance-based and session-based games, while Corepunk is more traditional, designed to allow for thousands of players to play in a persistent world. One of the game's key differences from classic MMOs, however, is a fog of war. The feature, more traditional in RTS games, is designed to make the game feel more surprising, allowing for players to both plan for or be surprised by ambushes, while exploration becomes more surprising. There's a lot more information about the upcoming game in the interview above. If you like what you hear, you can sign up for an upcoming closed beta now. Scarlet Nexus - the anime-infused next-gen action RPG - has got a new trailer and showed off gameplay at IGN Expo, primarily showing off the game's psychokinetic combat. Revealed at today's IGN Expo, the trailer shows the game's mixture of swordplay and psychic ablities against a variety of groteque enemies from the game's 'brainpunk' setting. Those telekinetic abilities can get pretty wild - we see telephone poles used like floating clubs, and even a full train being thrown down the tracks at a target. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/15/scarlet-nexus-exclusive-animation-and-combat-trailer"] In an interview with IGN, game director Kenji Anabuki and producer Keita Iizuka confirmed that there wouldn't be fundamental gameplay differences between current-gen and next-gen versions of the game, but talked up the level of detail next-gen has allowed them to add, alongside seamless loading times to allow for a more immersive experience. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/15/scarlet-nexus-devs-discuss-developing-for-next-gen"] Scarlet Nexus is coming to Xbox Series X, PS5, Xbox One, PS4 and PC, with no release date currently set.
