Lethal Weapon 5: Danny Glover Says Revival Plot Is Relevant to Current Events

Danny Glover has read a script for the proposed Lethal Weapon 5 movie, which he says has "very strong relevance" to current events. In an interview with Variety, Glover, who starred alongside Mel Gibson in all four Lethal Weapon movies, revealed that "there is something of a plan" for a fifth and final installment in the buddy-cop action series, though it still hasn't been completely locked down yet. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/10/27/is-lethal-weapon-5-happening"] "There has been a conversation about that in January," Glover admitted. "I don't want to give away the plot on the script that I read, but I found the plot had very strong relevance to some of things that are happening today. I can say that. But that was in January. History changes so fast... But yes, there's been talk about it. There is something of a plan." Glover hinted that the prospective project could be developed within a "political framework" that gives the team space to "attempt to confront the issue head-on," as he appeared to reference the recent impact of widespread protests against racism and police brutality. "I can only tell you, if it does happen, there is something extraordinary in it," he teased. "If Lethal Weapon gives us some sort of contribution to understanding a little bit more... It would be interesting to do. It would be interesting to see how we take this within the political framework we are in; the economic framework that we are in. And especially that framework as opposed to the communities that have been affected by the kind of police violence, the kind of police standards, and the power that they exert as well. And what would be interesting from that vantage point is what that attempt could be like at this particular moment. "And maybe it will attempt to confront the issue head-on, within whatever script comes out." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-10-best-80s-action-movies&captions=true"] The first rumblings that Lethal Weapon 5 might be happening surfaced back in 2008, as it emerged that Shane Black planned to direct Roger Murtaugh's and Martin Riggs' next adventure. However, after several rumoured changes, the project was squashed in 2012 when Richard Donner revealed that Gibson had turned down a reprisal of his role. After that, nothing came over the radio for a while. In January of this year, however, news of the long-gestating sequel finally hit the airwaves, as producer Dan Lin, who served as executive producer on the Lethal Weapon TV series, revealed that Warner Bros. had been looking to reload the beloved franchise with the original stars on board to reunite with the series director. Other Publishers May Be Considering Raising Prices on PS5 and Xbox Series X

Following the news that NBA 2K21 will cost $10 more on PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series X, the research firm IDG Consulting has said that other game publishers are also considering price increases for their games. Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, IDG President and CEO Yoshio Osaki explained how game pricing has "remained flat since 2005, whereas TV and movie pricing has increased significantly." "The last time that next-gen launch software pricing went up was in 2005 and 2006, when it went from $49.99 to $59.99 at the start of the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation," Osaki said. "During that time, the costs and prices in other affiliated verticals have gone up." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/02/nba-2k21-ps5-xbox-series-x-versions-will-cost-more"] These other affiliated verticals include next-gen console game production costs, which have seen increases of "200% to 300%, depending on the IP, studio and genre," without an increase in the price of the games. For comparisons sake, "cinema ticket prices have risen 39%, Netflix subscription costs have gone up 100%, and Cable TV packages have risen by 105%." "Even with the increase to $69.99 for next-gen, that price increase from 2005 to 2020 next-gen is only up 17%, far lower than the other comparisons," Osaki continued. "While the cost of development and publishing have gone up, and pricing in other entertainment verticals has also gone up substantially, next-gen software pricing has not reflected these increases. $59.99 to $69.99 does not even cover these other cost increases completely, but does move it more in the proper direction." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=nba-2k21-current-and-next-gen-cover-art-kobe-bryant-damian-lillard-and-zion-williamson&captions=true"] He concludes by stating that "Not every game should garner the $69.99 price point on next-gen, but flagship AAAs such as NBA 2K merit this pricing more than others." This news of NBA 2K21's price increase was revealed alongside the Kobe Bryant Mamba Forever Edition that celebrates the late basketball legend who played for the Los Angeles Lakers from 1996 to 2016. Rocky IV: Sylvester Stallone Confirms He’s Working on a Director’s Cut

Sylvester Stallone has revealed that he is working on a director's cut of Rocky IV, which he says will be "amazing." Stallone posted an image to promote the extended cut of Rambo: Last Blood on his Instagram page, prompting one fan to ask whether a director's cut of Rocky Balboa would ever be released. In response, Stallone admitted that he is "not doing that," however, he did give his fans another reason to fist pump the air. "I am doing a directors cut on Rocky IV which will be amazing!!!!!" he revealed in the same comment. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/11/07/the-rocky-creed-saga-in-7-minutes"] Rocky IV, one of the more triumphant entries in the iconic sports-film franchise, sees Rocky Balboa's former nemesis and best friend, Apollo Creed, killed in a fight with a smarmy Russian fighter. In the aftermath, Rocky sets out on a path of revenge as he heads to Russia to take down Ivan Drago. The 1985 film was a total knockout success at the box office, earning more than $300m worldwide, the most of any Rocky film. It also held the top spot as the highest-grossing sports film of all time, right up until the release of the biographical sports drama The Blind Side in 2009. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-weirdest-training-methods-from-the-rocky-and-creed-movies&captions=true"] The events of the film serve as the backstory to the plot of Creed II, in which Apollo Creed's son, Donnie, comes up against a new component in the ring, as he accepts a challenge from Ivan Drago's son, Viktor. In our review of Creed II, we said the story failed to "let the past go, abandoning the exciting new path blazed by [Ryan] Coogler in favor of evoking what's come before, with undeniably diminished results." Shortly after its release, Stallone announced that he was stepping out of the ring and officially retiring his iconic Rocky character for good, having portrayed the boxing legend in eight movies in total. World of Warcraft Sees Huge In-Game Memorials Following Death of Streamer

Major in-game memorials have been taking place following the death of professional World of Warcraft player and streaming personality Byron "Reckful" Bernstein. Bernstein reportedly died by suicide earlier this week - he was 31 years old. Players from around the world across multiple WoW and WoW Classic servers gathered in Azeroth's Stormwind Cathedral to kneel and celebrate Reckful's life. The World of Warcraft team paid tribute to Bernstein on Twitter, calling him "one of the most memorable WoW players of all time." Twitch issued its own statement, noting Reckful's pioneering impact on the platform "Byron was someone who talked about his struggles to help make room for others to do the same", the statement reads. "As we process this loss, we have to recognize that the stigma around mental health and treatment often prevents people from seeking and getting the help they need." If you are having suicidal thoughts or just need to talk to someone, text the Crisis Text Line at 741-741 or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 if you're in the US. Evo Online Canceled Following Allegations [Update: Nintendo Statement]

Update 7/2, 9:09pm PT Nintendo has issued a statement to IGN regarding the allegations that have arisen in the fighting game community, and in the Super Smash Bros. community.
"At Nintendo, we are deeply disturbed by the allegations raised against certain members of the competitive gaming community. They are absolutely impermissible. We want to make it clear that we condemn all acts of violence, harassment, and exploitation against anyone and that we stand with the victims."
Update 7/2, 6:16pm PT: In a statement to IGN, Evo announced that effective immediately Joey Cuellar "will no longer be involved with Evo in any capacity" and that Evo Online is canceled. The esports organizers named Tony Cannon as acting CEO. Evo's full statement below:
Over the past 24 hours, in response to serious allegations recently made public on Twitter, we have made the first of a series of important decisions regarding the future of our company. Effective immediately, Joey Cuellar will no longer be involved with Evo in any capacity. We are currently working towards his complete separation from the company and have relieved him of all his responsibilities. Going forward, Tony Cannon will act as CEO; in this position, he will take a leadership role in prioritizing greater accountability across Evo, both internally and at our events. Progress doesn't happen overnight, or without the bravery of those who speak up against misconduct and injustice. We are shocked and saddened by these events, but we are listening and committed to making every change that will be necessary in making Evo a better model for the stronger, safer culture we all seek. As a result, we will be canceling Evo Online and will work to issue refunds for all players who chose to purchase a badge. We will donate the equivalent of the proceeds as promised to Project HOPE.
[poilib element="accentDivider"] Update 7/2, 6:07 pm PT: Mane6, the developers behind Them's Fightin' Herds and Bandai Namco have also announced they will be pulling out of Evo Online. Bandai Namco's departure means three lineup titles: Dragon Ball FighterZ, SoulCalibur 6, and Tekken 7, will no longer be at the event. Original story follows... [poilib element="accentDivider"] Capcom and NetherRealm have announced they will be pulling out of Evo Online due to allegations against Evo organizer Joey Cueller. This is part of a larger alleged sexual abuse scandal erupting in the community. NetherRealms announced it would pull Mortal Kombat 11 from the Evo Online lineup on Twitter expressing "solidarity with those who have spoken out against abuse." Capcom followed soon after, specifically citing the "recent allegations of misconduct made against Joey Cueller" as a reason for not participating in Evo Online. This past week, several Super Smash Bros. esports competitors and members came forward with allegations of abuse from those within the community. Well-known personas were implicated on social media as alleged abusers, with some victims reportedly underage when the abuse occurred. Joey Cueller, president of Evo, faced allegations from members of the community that claimed Cueller (who also goes by Mr. Wizard) paid out tokens to local members of an arcade, who were underage at the time, to jump into a pool in only their underwear. In a statement by Evo, the company announced that “The behavior in these accusations runs directly counter to Evo’s mission of building a safe, welcoming environment for all of our players and attendees. We take this responsibility seriously. Accordingly, Joey has been placed on administrative leave pending a third-party investigation.” Cueller was only one of the many people named in a community-wide scandal that claims widespread sexual misconduct from within the fighting game community. A similar scandal hit the community last year following Evo 2019. Evo Online was created as a digital replacement event after Evo 2020's physical event was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. IGN has reached out to Evo for comment.
