Sony Patent Suggests PS1, PS2 and PS3 Games Could Be Emulated Via the Cloud
A Sony patent has surfaced suggesting that PS1, PS2 and PS3 games could be emulated via the cloud.
First posted to Twitter by user Renka_schedule, the tweet can be translated into English, at which point it reads "A large number of game titles across PS1/PS2/PS3 and various generations of game consoles can be stored and used via the cloud gaming library." "These games can be run on a virtual machine that mimics the operating system associated with each game console" it continues.
The accompanying image shows drawings of the PlayStation 1,2 and 3 being emulated onto separate screens. It's not clear how this would be achieved, or whether it is tied to the existing PlayStation Now system. It could be that the virtualised operating system solution is a means of not having to build backwards compatibility technology into new hardware, although this isn't mentioned in the patent documents.
Later in the thread Renka_schedule posts information from another patent, which suggests that users will be able to record and create mini-games from their gameplay, and share it with friends via the cloud. That sounds as though it could be associated with the new DualSense controller's Create button, and previous Sony patents have mentioned "scene tagging", which could allow players to "record" playable sections of games and share them.
Obviously, take all patents with a hefty grain of salt, as it just means that Sony is researching and looking into using the technology - nothing is confirmed.

We'v ep[reviously heard that the PS5 will be backwards compatible with the "majority" of PS4 games, but haven't heard official word on previous generations. In other Sony news, check out every game confirmed for the PS5.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla has suffered yet another leak ahead of the Ubisoft Forward conference this weekend, this time in the form of a lengthy boss fight.
The new footage now circulating follows Eivor as they encounter and defeat Cordelia, one of the daughters of King Lerion. If that sounds familiar, you probably know these characters from Shakespeare's tragedy King Lear, which is based on the legend of Leir of Britain, who had three daughters named Gonorill, Ragan and Cordelia.
The fight appears to be far more on the mystical side of the Assassin's Creed realism spectrum, and may well be activated similarly to AC: Odyssey's fights against Cyclops world bosses. Cordelia is specifically referred to by Eivor as a "demon goddess", wears a skull headdress and is peppered with arrows. In terms of abilities, she can teleport across the fighting arena in flashes of lightning, call in lightning bolts, and fire glowing copies of herself as attacks.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/07/assassins-creed-valhalla-game-engine-reveal"]
The footage has a "work in progress" tag emblazoned on the screen, but here are some of the other details we spotted:
- Valhalla includes a side quest system called 'Mysteries' for each section of the map. Aside from mysteries, there will also be 'Wealth' and 'Secrets' to find in each section of the map.
- Boss battles appear to have phases, with mini combat cutscenes to complement the flow of battle.
- Eivor has three bars in the bottom left corner of the screen which pertain to their adrenaline, health and stamina, adrenaline is the resource burned to use abilities in battle.
- Eivor can eat mushrooms mid-battle to increase the ability gauge.
- The inventory screen in Valhalla looks almost identical to that of Odyssey, and Eivor will carry around a rations bag, presumably to refill health on the go.
- The skills screen shows how you will increase Eivor's stats and unlock new abilities, with three styles, Raven, Bear and Wolf on offer - similar to Odyssey's Hunter, Warrior and Assassin build system.
- There's also a separate 'abilities' screen, where it's revealed that Eivor will unlock new skills using Books of Knowledge found in play at heavily guarded monasteries and military camps while searching for territorial wealth.
- Up to 8 abilities can be assigned at once.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Cancelled, Will Conclude with Part 4
Netflix has announced that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been cancelled and will conclude with Part 4 in late 2020 with a "spooky, sexy & supernatural series finale."
Part 4 will consist of eight episodes and will see The Eldritch Terrors descending upon Greendale. The coven must fight each of the Terrors, including The Weird, The Returned, The Darkness, all before facing The Void, which is "the End of All Things."
As the witches wage their war with the help of The Fright Club, Nick will also try to slowly earn his way back into Sabrina's heart before its too late.

“Working on ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ has been an incredible honor from Day One. The cast, beginning with Kiernan as everyone’s favorite teen witch, has been an absolute joy. I am beyond thankful to the crew, writers, editors, assistants, and everyone for pouring so much love into this dark dream of a show,” said showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. “I’m also grateful to our partners at Netflix, Warner Bros., Berlanti Television and Archie Comics for letting us tell the story we wanted to tell, the way we wanted to tell it. We can’t wait for everyone to see Part Four.”
In our review of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Part 3, we said "benefiting from a vast step up in quality on almost every level, a strong ensemble cast who have grown into their roles, and a creative vision that finally feels like it's been given full reign, this season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is easily the best yet."

Batwoman: Javicia Leslie Cast As New Series Lead for Season 2
The CW has found its new Batwoman. Actress Javicia Leslie (God Friended Me) will take over the lead role in Batwoman Season 2.
As previously reported, The CW isn't recasting the Kate Kane role following Ruby Rose's abrupt departure from Batwoman. Instead, Leslie has been cast as a new character named Ryan Wilder.
Here's The CW's official description for Ryan Wilder:
Here's The CW's official description for Ryan Wilder:
Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman. She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the Batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today Ryan lives in her van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical all-American hero.Leslie previously appeared on The CW series God Friended Me, as well as the BET series The Family Business. This casting makes her the first black actress to play Batwoman in a live-action role. “I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community,” said Leslie in a statement. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/20/ruby-rose-leaving-batwoman-role-to-be-recast"] We don't know much else about Ryan Wilder at this point, as she appears to be a completely new creation rather than an adaptation of an existing DC character. We do know that Rose's Kate Kane won't be killed off in between Seasons 1 and 2. Instead, Kate's mysterious disappearance will be a major plot thread in Season 2. Batwoman Season 2 is expected to debut in January 2021. The CW previously hinted the next Arrowverse crossover will focus on Batwoman and new series Superman and Lois, though it's unclear whether those plans may have changed since Rose's departure. We're hoping to learn more at DC's FanDome virtual event in August. The Wonder Years: ABC Developing Reboot Series With Black Family
ABC is rebooting the classic comedy series The Wonder Years, but with a significant twist. This new version of the nostalgia-heavy series is focused on a black, middle-class family living in '60s-era Montgomery, Alabama.
As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the reboot "has received a sizable pilot-production commitment" from ABC and is expected to debut as part of ABC's 2021-22 TV season. The Wonder Years is executive produced by Empire co-creator Lee Daniels, with Saladin K. Patterson (The Big Bang Theory) also executive producing and writing the pilot. A full writer's room will be formed once ABC approves the pilot script.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=fall-tv-schedule-2020&captions=true"]
At least two familiar faces from the original Wonder Years will be involved in the reboot. Co-creator Neal Marlens is attached as consultant, while original series star Fred Savage will executive produce and direct the pilot.
THR notes, "Sources say Daniels, Velez, Patterson, and Savage brought the idea directly to ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke, who previously singled out The Wonder Years as one of the programs that made her want to work in television. Savage and Patterson are close friends, with the former having directed the latter's untitled Leslie Odom Jr. multicamera pilot last year."
The original version of The Wonder Years ran on ABC from 1988 to 1993. Set during the late '60s and early '70s, the series centers around Savage's Kevin Arnold and his family as they deal with the trials and tribulations of middle-class life in the era of the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War. The series also features narration from an older version of Kevin (voiced by Daniel Stern).
The Wonder Years quickly proved to be a critical and ratings hit for ABC, with the series earning the first of several Primetime Emmy Awards after only six episodes had aired.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/19/revealed-your-top-5-sitcoms-to-binge-watch-power-ranking"]
The Wonder Years looks to be the first major TV project for Daniels following the recent conclusion of Empire, which was forced to end its final season early due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Empire is one of many movies and TV shows impacted by the pandemic.
Find out where The Wonder Years falls in IGN's countdown of the top 100 TV shows of all time.
