Disney Will ‘Likely’ Postpone Black Widow Again

Marvel fans may be hearing a familiar refrain yet again. According to Variety, Disney will very likely delay Black Widow's theatrical release as the studio continues to react to the COVID-19 pandemic and the slow reopening of theater chains in the US. While Disney has yet to confirm another Black Widow delay, it wouldn't be surprising in light of Warner Bros. recent decision to push back Wonder Woman 1984's release until Christmas Day. However, Variety's sources seem to indicate Disney is still pursuing a theatrical release for Black Widow, rather than shifting the newest Marvel movie to Disney+ as with Mulan. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=marvel-cinematic-universe-every-upcoming-movie-and-tv-show&captions=true"] There is another upcoming Disney release that may make the jump to streaming, however. Variety's sources claim the studio is "exploring" the possibility of releasing Pixar's Soul on Disney+, as happened with Onward earlier this year. It's unclear exactly how far back Black Widow's release date may be pushed. Disney may hope to still capitalize on the traditional holiday movie season, or the studio may play it safe and wait until 2021. Black Widow currently holds the November slot previously reserved for Marvel's Eternals, so we could see Black Widow take over the current February 12, 2021 release date and the entire MCU Phase 4 lineup shift once again. Whatever happens, it is clear studios are continuing to take a cautious approach to releasing new movies during the pandemic. And with Tenet underperforming at the box office and so many movies now being pushed back into 2021, theaters may have little incentive to reopen until Wonder Woman 1984 or Black Widow give moviegoers more incentive to return. [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/29/soul-official-sneak-peek] Do you think Disney should release Black Widow on Disney+, or would you rather wait until you can finally watch this long-delayed Marvel movie in theaters? Jim Lee Confirms DC’s 5G Is Dead

DC's 5G initiative has been shrouded in mystery, and at this point we'll probably never truly know what the publisher was planning with this ambitious project. DC's Publisher/Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee confirmed the long-rumored reboot of DC's comic book line is no more. As Newsarama reports, Lee revealed the news during prerecorded Q&A segment at DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse. Lee confirmed DC won't be publishing a comic or event called 5G, nor are there plans to perform a sweeping overhaul of DC's continuity a la 2011's New 52 relaunch. Instead, DC will take a character-driven approach to its comic book lineup, as the company shifts focus in the wake of major layoffs and editorial restructuring. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/12/the-flash-movie-features-lots-of-superheroes-and-will-restart-the-dceu-dc-fandome"] "There won't be a project called '5G', or a big reboot, or whatever," Lee said. "We really want to focus on individual titles, and organically build up individual characters over the course of the next year." "We had a lot of great ideas that we were floating around," Lee continued. "And rather than dumping it all in one month and renumbering the line and going for that really short-term spike in sales, we just naturally gravitated to the story ideas and concepts we love and building them into the mythology - the ongoing mythology - in a very organic way." While DC has never been clear on what exactly 5G was, it was rumored to be an ambitious reboot built around the fallout of Watchmen sequel Doomsday Clock and the creation of a new, unified DC Universe timeline. Former Co-Publisher Dan DiDio had revealed glimpses of that detailed timeline in 2019, which organized DC's entire, 80-year publishing history into four distinct generations, beginning with Wonder Woman's public debut (Generation 1) and spanning until the present (Generation 4). 5G was reportedly the start of Generation 5, with traditional heroes like Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne aging out of their roles and a younger generation of heroes rising up to take their place. However, between DiDio's surprise departure from DC and the quiet cancellation of DC's Free Comic Book Day 2020 release, Generation Zero, all signs have pointed to DC pivoting away from its 5G plans in 2020. Lee's confirmation is merely the official death knell for 5G. As Lee makes clear, not all the stories originally planned for 5G are being abandoned, but DC is no longer setting up a widespread reboot of its comic book line. Nor does it sound like Batman and Superman will get to enjoy retirement anytime soon. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=a-history-of-dcs-crisis-comics&captions=true"] That's not to say we won't see some sort of new reader-friendly DC relaunch in the near future. As we've explored before, a number of perennial DC books are ending in the next several months (Teen Titans, Suicide Squad, Batgirl) while Brian Michael Bendis is ending his runs on Superman and Action Comics and Joshua Williamson is wrapping up his nearly five-year stint on The Flash. At the very least, we're expecting to see a widespread reshuffling of creative talent in early 2021 and a number of new series announced, even if Lee has previously indicated DC won't publish quite as many monthly comics as it has in recent years. Are you disappointed 5G isn't seeing the light of day? What direction do you want to see the company take in 2021? let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Apple’s Entry-Level Tablet Just Got a Big Power Boost

Apple just introduced a new 8th Generation iPad with a ton more power. Although the new 10.2-inch iPad looks exactly the same as last year's model, the new A12 Bionic inside is a 40% faster CPU while also providing a two times jump in graphics power. With the new chip in tow, Apple promises it's two times faster than the top-selling Windows laptop, three times Android tablet, and six times faster than Chromebooks. Screen Shot 2020-09-15 at 1.42.59 PM To make the new 8th Generation iPad a well-rounded device for school work and office work, Apple has introduced a new case complete with a keyboard and touch pad. Of course, users will also be able to use the Apple Pencil on this tablet to write note and annotate papers. The 8th Generation iPad will retail for $329 – or $299 for educational users. It's available to order today and will release on September 18th. In our second demo, we got answers to such questions as, "who is the Ghostrunner? What is this tower we’re climbing? Who is the “whisper in your head?” Ghostrunner looks to help make the wait for Cyberpunk 2077 a bit easier with its style and world, and it would also go nicely with seven other cyberpunk games to play while you are waiting for CD Projekt Red's latest adventure. Ghostrunner will support ray tracing on PC at launch, yet there has been no confirmation on whether it will make its way over to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X in the future. Fortnite Will Get Nvidia Ray tracing This Week

Epic Games and Nvidia have revealed that an upcoming Fortnite patch will add ray tracing to the game on PC. It was recently announced during a Nvidia GeForce event that Fortnite would be getting the RTX treatment and players won't have to wait much longer as ray tracing will be added to the game on September 17. This patch will make Fortnite the first ever Battle Royale-style game to feature ray tracing. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/01/fortnite-rtx-on-reveal-trailer"] "On September 17, the game will add support for ray traced reflections, shadows, global illuminations, and ambient occlusion significantly raising the image quality in the game," a press release about the patch reads. "At the same time, Nvidia DLSS is coming to Fortnite to boost frame rates and generate beautiful, sharp images in the game. Additionally, Nvidia Reflex technology for reduced latency will also be supported." Nvidia says it has worked with Fortnite content creators to develop a new Creative Mode map known as the RTX Treasure Run that has been designed specifically to showcase the game's new ray tracing capabilities. The map drops players at the entrance to a museum where they are challenged to a scavenger hunt that highlights different ray traced effects. "Along the way, players can explore a hall of mirrors, a medieval castle, a jungle, climb a giant statue, and explore a shrunken science lab to uncover the most treasures in the least amount of time," the press release reads. "RTX Treasure Run will be available with the launch of Fortnite with RTX."
