Amazon always throws together a big product showcase in the Fall that introduces a ton of Alexa-compatible devices and appliances – including some you didn’t even think needed a smart assistant like a microwave and wall clock. Well here we are again with Amazon’s Fall Echo and Alexa devices event, and Amazon has actually announced quite a few notable additions including a completely redesigned Echo speaker lineup, an in-home security drone, and Amazon’s own cloud gaming service called Luna.
Without further ado, let’s get into everything Amazon announced.
There’s will also be a Kids Edition of the Echo Dot for $59 that features cute animal faces including a tiger and panda designs at launch.
Amazon Echo
The Echo speaker has been a cylinder for the last three generations, but now it’s growing up to become a sphere. The new, larger spherical design allows the device to use a new larger speaker and it even features premium adaptive sound. It’s also powered by an AZ1 neural edge processor that promises to be 20 times more power-efficient than the Echo Dot 3rd generation and provide two times faster speech processing. The new Echo Dot also features Zigbee and Bluetooth Low Energy and it’s available now for $99.
Amazon Echo Dot
Alongside the new Echo, Amazon has also made its smaller Echo Dot smart speaker into a sphere as well. Despite its small size, the Echo Dot still manages to pack in three drivers for great sounds. You can also use the new Echo Dot as an alarm clock and you can tap it to snooze. The Echo Dot can come with a simple LED clock display for $49 or without it for $39.
There’s will also be a Kids Edition of the Echo Dot for $59 that features cute animal faces including a tiger and panda designs at launch.
eero 6 and eero Pro 6
Amazon has announced a new pair of Wi-Fi mesh routers and as their model name might suggest, they’re ready to support Wi-Fi 6, plus Zigbee to connect to your smart home devices. The eero 6 will retail for $129 and the eero Pro 6 will go for $229.
Ring Car Alarm
Ring has made a big splash in the home security world and now it’s coming to your car. The Ring Car Alarm is a small device that plugs into your automobile’s OBD-II port and once connected it adds intelligent sensors and another set of sirens to your car’s built-in alarm. Additionally, it connects with Amazon Sidewalk to help you locate your car in situations where you’ve forgotten where you parked it or it’s been stolen. The Ring Car Alarm retails for $59.
Ring Car Cam
If you want to add a bit of surveillance to your car alarm, the rin Car Cam is the perfect thing for you. Additionally, the Ring Car Cam includes a siren and emergency crash assistance. The Ring Car Cam retails for $199.
Ring Car Connect
Lastly, if you’re driving a car with its own built-in cameras, the Ring Car Connect is service for you. It’s a new API that leverages your car’s existing camera system to let you see what’s going on around your car at any point with the Ring app. Currently, Ring Car Connect is primarily compatible with Tesla’s S, 3, X, and Y models, but Amazon plans to push its API to all car manufacturers. Ring Car Connect is also a service that will cost $199.
Ring Always Home Cam
The Ring Always Home Cam is the first in-home flying security drone and as crazy as that sounds, it’s also incredibly cool. The drone is designed to fly out of its holding dock and patrol your home while you’re away. The Ring Always Home Cam also has sound and motion sensors, though there’s no word on battery life yet. The Ring Always Home Cam will retail for $249.
Amazon Echo Show
The Amazon Echo Show got a new design that makes it look like Apple HomePod with a screen glued onto it. Not that we’re complaining we like the old school sunflower design that we first saw from the iMac G4. Aside from the Amazon Echo Show looking like multiple Apple devices, the new form factor gives the Echo Show much better sounding 2.1 channel audio. The new Echo Show otherwise features a 10-inch screen and 13MP camera. Additionally, the new design incorporates a motor that allows the Echo Show to rotate and follow you as you are on a video call or moving around your kitchen or living room. You can also control the Echo Show’s movement and use it as a security camera by setting the device into "sentry mode" through the app. The new Amazon Echo Show retails for $249.
Amazon Fire TV Stick
The new Fire TV Stick might not look very different but it’s much more capable now that its Dolby Atmos ready. Amazon also developed a whole new Fire TV user experience with simple tiles, a navigation bar with your favorite apps, and a new Alex hub to show you all the stuff you didn’t know Alexa could do. The Fire TV Stick Retails for $39 and it comes with an Alexa voice remote. Those that don’t need such a fancy remote controller with volume buttons, can get the Fire TV Stick Lite for $29.
Luna
Now we get to the biggest announcement of the show, Amazon’s cloud gaming service. The service serves as a direct competitor to Google Stadia and it’ll work on PC, Mac, smartphones, tablets, and Fire TV devices. Luna will work on a subscription basis to grant users access to a library of games similar to Xbox Game Pass. Amazon’s cloud gaming service will launch with games such as Resident Evil 7, Control, A Plague Tale: Innocence, and Yooka-Laylee, and The Impossible Lair. Luna+, the name of the gaming streaming plan, offers up to 4K resolution at 60 fps for select titles and will allow subscribers to play on two separate devices at the same time. Amazon has also developed a Luna controller that connects directly to your Wi-Fi in a similar way the Google Stadia controller did to minimize input lag. According to Amazon, the Luna controller’s "cloud direct technology" helps reduce latency by 20ms compared to playing with a Bluetooth controller paired to a Fire TV Stick. Subscription pricing is set at $5.99 for early access users, though, you’ll also have to pick up a Luna Controller for $49. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Have a tip for us? Doom Eternal is coming to Xbox Game Pass on October 1. It will be the first Bethesda-published title coming to Xbox’s subscription service since the company announced it will acquire parent company ZeniMax Media earlier this week, which includes Doom Eternal developer id Software.
Doom Eternal is the sequel to id’s 2016 Doom. It was released earlier this year back in March, but if you missed out and have Game Pass, you’ll be able to play it soon. The timing of the announcement also coincides with the news that Xbox will acquire ZeniMax Media, the parent company of developer id Software, among others.
When Xbox announced its plans to acquire ZeniMax, one of the plans for the acquisition Phil Spencer revealed is to bring “Bethesda’s iconic franchises to Xbox Game Pass for console and PC.”
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/24/doom-eternal-final-review"]
Now, just days after the announcement Xbox appears to be following through with that promise by bringing in Doom Eternal. It should be noted that some Bethesda games like Fallout 76 were already available on Game Pass prior to the acquisition.
Considering the Xbox first-party games launch day one on Game Pass, it’s easy to imagine upcoming titles like Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 will also be coming to Game Pass at launch. In the meantime, past games like Doom Eternal will most likely trickle into the library going forward.

Amazon Announces Luna Cloud Gaming Service
Amazon is launching a cloud gaming service called Luna that will stream games to PC, Mac, and Fire TV devices, as well as web apps for iPhone and iPad. Android is listed as coming soon.
The service, a direct competitor to Google Stadia, will offer various "game channels" that users can subscribe to, each which offer access to a library of games.
Amazon's own, the Luna+ game channel, will launch with games such as Resident Evil 7, Control, A Plague Tale: Innocence, and Yooka-Laylee and The Impossible Lair for an introductory price of $5.99 per month. Luna+ will offer 4K resolution at 60fps for "select titles" and allows subscribers to play on two devices simultaneous.
Amazon also announced a Ubisoft game channel that will give subscribers access to Ubisoft games on the day and date they launch regularly, with support for 4K resolution and mobile gameplay. No price was mentioned for the Ubisoft channel. According to Amazon, this is "the first of multiple Luna game channels in development, where customers can play games from their favorite publishers and genres."
Luna also will feature integration of the Amazon-owned Twitch streaming platform, with Amazon announcing "players will see Twitch streams for games in the service, and from Twitch, they’ll be able to instantly start playing Luna games."
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/11/22/google-stadia-review"]
In addition to the service, Amazon announced an Alexa-enabled Luna controller that will connect directly to Fire TV devices in order to reduce latency between the controller and game. The Luna Controller will be available for $49.99 during the early access period. Luna is also playable via mouse and keyboard or other Bluetooth game controllers.
People interested in Luna can sign up for early access now, but it's not clear when the early access period will launch.

Vintage-style action figures seem to be all the rage in 2020, and now Hasbro's Marvel Legends line is joining the fray. Hasbro revealed a new wave of "Marvel Legends Retro" figures that look like they walked straight out of 1984.
The Marvel Legends Retro figures measure in at 3.75-inches-tall, similar to the defunct Marvel Universe line rather than the current 6-inch Marvel Legends releases. These figures will be sold in sets of two, though each will be individually packaged on a retro-styled cardback. Get a closer look at the first wave of six figures in the slideshow gallery below:
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=hasbro-reveals-retro-inspired-marvel-figures&captions=true"]
Unlike Hasbro's Star Wars Retro Collection series, which features near-exact reproductions of the vintage Kenner figures from the '70s and '80s, these Marvel Legends Retro figures aren't based on any particular toy line. They do seem to evoke the classic Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars figures from the mid-'80s, but the packaging and costume choices are a more general and Silver Age-inspired take on the Marvel Universe.
Hasbro has yet to reveal whether there will be future waves of Marvel Legends Retro figures. That said, the fact that neither Wolverine nor Deadpool made it into this batch leads us to believe more figures are in the works.
Each 2-pack is priced at $19.99 and will be released in Fall 2020. Pre-orders will go live on Hasbro Pulse on Friday, September 25 at 2pm PT.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/23/disney-has-delayed-marvels-movies-to-2021"]
In other Marvel Legends news, Hasbro is going all-in on X-Men movie toys now that Disney has completed its purchase of 21st Century Fox. That includes both an X-Men 20th Anniversary series and other lines inspired by movies like Logan and Deadpool 2. Hasbro also recently held a successful crowdfunding drive for an enormous Marvel Legends Sentinel figure.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/24/football-manager-2021-official-teaser"]

TLoU’s Ashley Johnson on Critical Role’s New Fundraising Efforts
Critical Role, the company behind the hit D&D live show of the same name featuring voice actors from some of the biggest games like The Last of Us Part 2, Marvel's Spider-Man, and more, is expanding its fundraising efforts with the formation of a new organization, the Critical Role Foundation.
The CRF, which you can learn about in a helpful animated new video, will partner with nonprofits, including its initial partnership with the First Nations Development Institute. Critical Role cast member and The Last of Us Part 2 star Ashley Johnson will be president of the foundation, with Matthew mercer, Eduardo Lopez, Rachel Romero, and Mark Koro serving as officers and board members for the foundation.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/03/04/critical-role-the-legend-of-vox-machina-animated-special-trailer"]
Speaking to IGN via email, Johnson explained how the foundation was an idea the Critical Role team had been thinking about for a while and, like much of what Critical Role does, it was inspired by the group's fan community, affectionately known as Critters.
"Starting a foundation is something that has been brewing for years and we couldn’t be more excited that it’s finally come together! With the Critical Role Foundation, we’re able to create a more streamlined approach to raise funds to much needed causes that are close to our hearts," Johnson said. "We wanted to have a centralized location where Critters can learn more about our ongoing fundraising efforts and have a voice in who we partner with next. This foundation was, and is, inspired by the Critters. It’s because of them that we’re able to do this and they’re helping us change the world for the better."
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=critical-role-legend-of-vox-machina-teaser&captions=true"]
Fundraising has been a part of Critical Role's DNA since the show began, with efforts to raise money for 826 LA, Red Nose Day, OSD, and more. CRF will initially be partnering with the First Nations Development Institute, an American Indian nonprofit endeavoring to support Native communities. CRF is aiming to raise $50,000, which would go toward the Native Youth & Culture Fund's initiatives serving the Zuni Pueblo and Cohciti Pueblo youth for an entire year.
"Whenever a major crisis occurs like Covid-19, marginalized communities tend to feel the negative effects the most. 69% of Native nonprofits expect to see a revenue decrease as a result of Covid-19 and an estimated $50 billion loss in economic activity. We chose to work with First Nations because they are supporting Native communities who have been some of the most deeply impacted by the pandemic," Johnson explained.
CRF will have more partnerships to come, but in addition to this first fundraising campaign, the foundation has also pledged to put 10% of every dollar raised into an emergency fund, which the foundation can use to "donate funds in the event of natural disasters and other unforeseen events that require immediate humanitarian assistance."

"We wanted to be prepared for unforeseen events and natural disasters that inevitably happen. We’ve seen time and time again that when a major natural disaster occurs, such as the wildfires in California or the hurricanes in the Gulf, people need financial support right away," Johnson explained, noting that the foundation will continue to fundraise for new partnerships in the future.
"Each partnership will be a little different, and specifics around each partnership will always be outlined in detail on our website. Transparency is a big deal for us and those who choose to make a donation will know exactly where it’s going and how it's being used. We are planning some pretty exciting things for the future of this foundation and I can’t wait to watch it grow.
Critical Role's fundraising efforts are only one sign of the company's continued expansion, as CR recently announced Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins Series III, a follow-up to its two previous successful comic book series. Additionally, Critical Role broke Kickstarter fundraising records with its campaign for the upcoming animated series The Legend of Vox Machina.
IGN previously spoke to some of the members of Critical Role about the campaign's success and what it means for the animated show's development. They also later found a home for the show at Amazon Prime Video, which ordered even more episodes of the upcoming Critical Role animated series.
