Dynasty Warriors Mobile Game Announced for Japan, Closed Beta Starts Next Weekend

A mobile version of Dynasty Warriors designed for iOS and Android was announced during a special 20th anniversary livestream event at Tokyo Game Show 2020. Koei Tecmo also announced a Japan-only closed beta, with applications opening immediately after the presentation.

Titled Shin Sangoku Musou in Japan, producer Akihiro Suzuki described the game as "the definitive smartphone action game" and one allows players to "easily enjoy exhilarating Dynasty Warriors action and the grand story of the Three Kingdoms". In addition to the main story mode, Suzuki said mobile Dynasty Warriors will also include new game modes including "cooperative play with other users" and "asynchronous versus matches".

The game was played live during the presentation, showcasing the single-player story mode. After choosing a map location and locking in a team of three fighters, Suzuki demonstrated the game can be played in both landscape and portrait, switching instantly from one to the other by rotating the phone. Movement is controlled via a virtual touchpad, while attacks and special abilities are performed using the on-screen buttons. Players can swap between their three fighters at any time by tapping their on-screen portraits, plus they're joined by an AI partner for combination attacks, one of which included a cinematic where a woman grappled a soldier with a chain. The main menu also revealed two other modes, Free and Conquest

Suzuki also demonstrated the "gacha" function, seen in many other Japanese mobile games, where players spend virtual currency to unlock random new fighters as well as concept art of the characters.

Details on how to register for the closed beta were revealed via the game's official website and Twitter account. Applications will be accepted until Monday 5 October, with the beta running from 8-12 October. Although beta and full game is currently limited to players in Japan, a Koei Tecmo representative told IGN a Western release may be considered at a later date.

Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires Announced for 2021

Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires has been announced for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. Unlike previous cross-generation Dynasty Warriors games, the PC port will be at the same level as the next-gen editions of the game. It will arrive in early 2021. The Empires sub-series takes Dynasty Warriors' '1 vs. 1,000' action game set-up, and places it within a strategy game structure, seeing players take on the role of a hero, and either aiding existing factions to conquer medieval China - or establish their own. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/27/dynasty-warriors-9-empires-official-trailer"] Dynasty Warriors 9 was the first open-world installment in the series and, while 9 Empires will stick with its traditional strategic structure, producer Akihiro Suzuki tells IGN that the freedom of approach offered in the mainline game will be replicated in this spin-off, saying, "we are incorporating a variety of strategies in the siege battles." The game will also support 2-player online co-op. The Nintendo Switch version – which will be the first Dynasty Warriors game specifically built for Switch – will exclusively support local wireless co-op play. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=dynasty-warriors-9-empires-screenshots&captions=true"] 9 Empires will also include an "enriched" edit function to let you create your own officer. Suzuki explains that, "The facial editing will allow for more customisation compared to previous Empires games," and compares it to Nioh 2's character creation features. No features will be unique to the next-gen editions of the game, but players should expect, "improvements on the next-gen versions in the visual quality, framerate stability and crowded chaotic gameplay." Borat 2 Has A Ridiculous New Title? Not So Fast.

Update (9/30/20) - A representative for the film has reached out to IGN to inform us that a new, official title for the Borat sequel is expected to be announced soon. An "official" Twitter account for the Kazakhstan Government also posted a video narrated by Borat in response to last night's Presidential Debate. Original story follows. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Borat's upcoming sequel will officially be titled Borat: Gift of Pornographic Monkey to Vice Premiere Mikhael Pence to Make Benefit Recently Diminished Nation of Kazakhstan, according to a now-removed listing that appeared on the Writer's Guild of America West's website. While the title may be a mouthful, it seems to be par for the course as a follow up to 2006's Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=movie-sequels-that-took-forever&captions=true"] The official listing also details the team behind the sequel. Sacha Baron Cohen will reprise his role as the outlandish reporter Borat, with story credits also going to Anthony Hines (writer for the original Borat, Bruno, and Da Ali G Show), Dan Swimmer (writer for Cohen's Who Is America series on Showtime), and Nina Pedrad (writer for 30 Rock and New Girl). After footage of Sacha Baron Cohen's titular character surfaced on YouTube, it was discovered that a sequel was in the works. The filming in Los Angeles has allegedly wrapped, and it is said to be being screened by industry insiders with a possible launch "prior to the election in an effort to reach younger voters," according to an earlier report by Collider. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2006/08/11/borat-cultural-learnings-of-america-for-make-benefit-glorious-nation-of-kazakhstan-movies-trailer"] No plot details are known at this time, but judging by its title, it's possible current Vice President Mike Pence makes an appearance. Here's to hoping there's some new lines to quote so people can finally stop yelling "my wife" in 2020. It's already hard enough as it is. Call of Duty: Warzone Is Getting a Fast-Travel Subway System in Season Six

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's sixth season will add a subway system to Verdansk that will become the fastest way to get around the battle royale's map. As shown in the season six cinematic trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the Verdansk Subway System, locally known as the Metro, was brought back to life by Farah and Nikolai to search for "Al-Qatala members hiding underground." When the Metro becomes available, it will allow players to quickly travel between Verdansk Int. Airport, Lozoff Pass, Verdansk Center, Downtown/Tavorsk District, Barakett Shopping District, Verdansk Train Station, and Torsk Bloc. You can see the full service map below: WZ-VERDANSKSUBWAY Since this opens new places to explore on the map, there will also be new areas with Supply Boxes and loose loadout items to help your squad find the perfect gear. At the start of each Warzone match, the Metro will be open in certain areas that will vary each time. They all have the same layout, and can be accessed by heading down a large staircase. Once underground, players can go further down by choosing to go left or right down the staircase to the station's platform, where "old posters are plastered onto the walls along with a handy graphic that marks what station an operator is currently at." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=call-of-duty-modern-warfare-and-warzone-season-six-screenshots&captions=true"] Once on the subway trains, its important to note that they won't move to a station that is under the effects of the circle collapse. Additionally, trains will not move if there is "any conflict on board, or between the train and the platform, so keep fighting to the platform, stairwells, and outside the station." These new areas will be great, or horrifying, for close-quarter combat, so make sure you bring your shotguns or SMGs to be prepared. Season Six of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone will launch on September 29, 2020, and its Battle Pass will feature campaign hero Farah and series veteran Nikolai. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Annonuced for Netflix

Netflix Portugal has released a new trailer for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, a new CG film featuring Claire Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy and more, and it's scheduled to be released in 2021. As of this writing, no other Netflix accounts have posted the trailer, so it's possible this was released before the official announcement was set to go live. No further information has been released as of yet, besides confirming the stars of Resident Evil 2 and its recent remake will most likely be the stars of the potential movie. This appears to be different than the previously confirmed live-action Resident Evil adaptation for Netflix that will focus on multiple timelines and sisters Jade and Billie Wesker. With this project and the upcoming Netflix live-action series, alongside Resident Evil Village planning a 2021 release date, the next year should be horrifyingly bright for fans of the beloved horror franchise. Old: Shyamalan Reveals Title, Teaser Art as His Next Movie Begins Filming

M. Night Shyamalan revealed that production has begun on his next movie, which he also revealed is titled Old. Shyamalan's announcement on Twitter included the first teaser artwork for the film, which depicts an hourglass with people falling through it rather than sand. The tag line of "It's only a matter of time" suggests the film is a thriller about, well, the passage of time and aging. But Collider reports that Old is based on the French graphic novel Sandcastle:

"Sandcastle follows a group of 13 people who aren’t able to leave a mysterious, secluded beach that hides a dark secret involving time, which is referenced on the Old poster. The graphic novel is described as an existential horror story about the inevitability of death that plays like a Kafka-esque episode of The Twilight Zone or Lost."

According to Collider, Shyamalan received the graphic novel by writer Pierre Oscar Levy and artist Frederik Peeters as a Father's Day gift and scooped up the movie rights to it. Old, however, is only inspired by the graphic novel rather being a straightforward adaptation. The Glass and Split director tweeted a photo of himself holding a clapperboard on set. Shyamalan and his crew are all wearing face masks as they shoot during the ongoing pandemic, something the writer-director acknowledges by saying, "Feels like a miracle that I am standing here shooting the first shot of my new film." Old's cast includes Gael Garcia Bernal, Alex Wolff, Thomasin McKenzie, Vicky Krieps, Rufus Sewell, Embeth Davidtz, Emun Elliott Eliza Scanlen, Aaron Pierre, Abbey Lee, Nikki Amuka-Bird, and Ken Leung. The film is scheduled to open July 23, 2021. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=movies-and-tv-based-on-comics&captions=true"]
