PS5 User Interface Officially Revealed By Sony
The PS5 UI has been revealed by Sony.
The news arrives as part of a PlayStation blog post, which digs into the new console's user experience and reveals a few new features coming to the PlayStation 5 when it launches next month.
One of the highlights of the new system is the Control Center, which provides "immediate access to almost everything you need from the system," and can be summoned by pressing the PlayStation button on the new DualSense controller. From the Control Center you can see who is online, check the status of downloads, manage your controllers and more. A special 11-minute State of Play showcase launched alongside the blog post, providing an in-depth look at the PS5's UX, which was designed with 4K TVs in mind.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=ps5-ui-screenshots&captions=true"]
There's also a brand new feature called Activities which lets players "discover new gameplay opportunities, go back to things you missed, jump directly into levels or challenges you want to play, and much more." Activity cards can be accessed directly from the control centre, and some can be viewed picture-in-picture, meaning you won't have to leave the game to see them.
An example is shown from Sackboy: A Big Adventure, where the user can open up an activity card relating to a level in progress to see objectives they still need to complete. From this menu, they can also find out the estimated playtime necessary to complete the level. If they wish to, players can press resume on an Activity to warp to the chosen level, and if the user is a PlayStation Plus subscriber, they can also get access to Game Help, where if they tap one of the objectives they can see screenshots and video clips that can be pinned to the screen and will guide them towards the solution.
Users will also be able to join parties and games hosted by their friends directly from the control centre, switching between games with pace thanks to the PS5's SSD. A new media sharing system also allows you to dictate captions for screenshots before sharing them, and screenshots will be shrouded with a spoiler warning for players who may not have seen that part of the game yet.

Sony also notes that they have "rebuilt the entire software stack form the console to the network" to make the user experience faster. "We believe the less time you spend waiting to interact with the system, the more time you will have to spend playing games," the article explains.
In other PS5 news, we recently learned that the console's cooling fan determined the size of the next-gen console.

Ex-Sega Developer Criticizes Release of Golden Axe Prototype Created ‘Under Crunch Conditions’
An ex-Sega developer has criticized the publisher following the announcement of a repackaged release of a prototype he helped create "under crunch conditions."
Witch Beam co-founder Tim Dawson took to Twitter to point out that Golden Axed: A Cancelled Prototype - a game launching on Steam as part of Sega's 60th-anniversary celebrations - was initially coded by Dawson and a small team in 2012 in an attempt to revive the classic series. Dawson claims that Sega enforced very tough working conditions for the team.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=sega-60th-anniversary-streets-of-kamurocho-golden-axed-armor-of-heroes-screenshots-ign&captions=true"]
Dawson and his team were asked to make "a polished gameplay prototype for an internal Golden Axe pitch in about two weeks."
"This project was my personal nexus of nightmare hours, inept management, industry realisations and heroics achieved with a small team under unreasonable conditions, so it's an odd feeling to see it surface eight years later without context, credits and with a joke title sequence," Dawson explained.
The prototype's development was apparently mired by problems and criticism from upper management.
The launch of Golden Axed has surprised some of the prototype's original developers, who worked on the project almost a decade ago and were not informed by Sega that it would be making a return. Dawson mentioned that he was working on the game for "14-hour days" amid "7 day work weeks." and called Sega "parasites" for the tongue-in-cheek description of the game originally featured on its Steam store page, which read as follows: "Golden Axed may be janky, may be buggy, may be an artifact of its time, but it offers a unique glimpse into the prospect of a project that could have been." Later, Dawson added to his comments, saying "If you're excited to play an old prototype, that's fine! Bunch of people including me worked hard on it. And obviously Sega owns it and any work I did, it's just a bit weird they're saying they reached out to the original team." IGN reached out to Sega for comment on this story, who provided the following response: "SEGA Europe reached out to former members of the Golden Axe: Reborn dev team to produce this prototype of the game for Steam as part of our 60th Anniversary celebrations. We wanted to bring the work of the developers at the time to light and celebrate it as a part of our history. Something we didn't get the chance to do first time around. We certainly didn't mean to dredge up painful memories for Mr. Dawson and his former colleagues or appear disrespectful. We've removed the line from the Steam copy that could have been taken as a slur on the development and would like to reassure everyone that it was intended as a comment on the build we had ported to PC, not the quality of the original work. We're hoping lots of fans play the prototype and can appreciate the work he and his colleagues put into this developing this prototype." Golden Axed is part of Sega's 60th Anniversary Steam Celebration, which also includes a Streets of Rage/Yakuza mash-up game and a retro battle tank game based on Company of Heroes. Dune Production Company, Transformers Producer Team for Buck Rogers Movie
Legendary is reportedly developing a new Buck Rogers movie to potentially serve as a launching pad for a multi-platform sci-fi franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary, the production company behind the upcoming Dune movie reboot, is planning to develop a new Buck Rogers project with Transformers producer Don Murphy and his wife Susan Montford, whose credits include Shoot 'Em Up and Real Steel. The studio is said to be "putting the final pieces" together on a deal for the screen rights to the classic sci-fi character.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/19/5-great-sci-fi-movies-on-netflix-that-arent-star-wars-or-the-mcu"]
After years-long negotiations over the rights to the franchise, sources claim that the team behind the Buck Rogers project are wanting to branch the property out across multiple platforms, starting with "a big-screen take that would pave the way for a prestige television series as well as an anime series, giving audiences a 360-look at heroics sets in the 25th century."
Buck Rogers is the spaceman protagonist of Philip Francis Nowlan's Armageddon 2419 A.D., published in a 1928 issue of the Amazing Stories magazine. The novella opens with Rogers trapped inside a coal mine, where he falls into a state of suspended animation and wakes up almost 500 years into the future. The character rose to further prominence when he appeared in a 1929 John F. Dille comic strip.

Over the years, the stories of Buck Rogers have appeared in a variety of formats, including comics, movies, radio, and television. The developing project at Legendary could lead to many more adventures with the celebrated comic-strip spaceman, as Hollywood continues to revisit past properties. PS5 Can Record Voice Chats and Report Them to Moderators
PlayStation 5 users will be able to record voice chats and send them to moderators.
The news was revealed alongside the latest system software update for the PlayStation 4, version 8.00. PS4 users have been reporting seeing a notification in party chats where they are told that "voice chats may be recorded for moderation."
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/29/ps5-the-future-of-gaming-trailer"]
According to the PlayStation Blog, this is a pre-emptive measure for the upcoming feature, which will launch alongside the PS5. "Voice chat recording for moderation is a feature that will be available on PS5 when it launches, and will enable users to record their voice chats on PS5 and submit them for moderation review," explained Sid Shuman, Senior Director at SIE Content Communications.
"The pop up you’re seeing on PS4 right now is to let you know that when you participate in a chat with a PS5 user (post-launch), they may submit those recordings from their PS5 console to SIE," he added.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=confirmed-playstation-5-games&captions=true"]
It's not clear just yet what the ramifications of this new system will be: will it be a means for Sony to find and ban users who break the code of conduct in voice chats, as reported by other players? The rest of the Version 8.00 update offers small tweaks to the PS4 UI, likely to bring it in line with features coming to the next-generation console and to mitigate cross-play issues. Version 8.00 includes new avatars, a means to mute all microphones from the quick menu and enhanced 2-step verification. It also removes the ability to create or access events.

Anya Taylor-Joy ‘Already Dreaming’ of Furiosa, Praises Charlize Theron
Shortly after being cast as Furiosa in the upcoming Mad Max prequel, Anya Taylor-Joy has "already started dreaming" of the Fury Road heroine according to a recent interview.
Spotted by The Hollywood Reporter, Taylor-Joy recently appeared as a guest on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast where she spoke publicly for the first time since the official casting announcement.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-sci-fi-movies&captions=true"]
"I've already started dreaming about her," Taylor-Joy said during the episode. "She's coming in pretty strong."
George Miller, creator of the Mad Max franchise that began with 1979's Mad Max, teased back in 2017 that he wanted to explore a film that focused more on Furiosa's past.
Now, Miller's found his leading lady and she couldn't be more excited to take up the challenge and make the character her own. "The level of commitment that has been shown before me, I endeavor to match that," Taylor-Joy said. "And that makes me really excited."
[ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/07/mad-max-charlize-theron-on-heartbreaking-recasting-of-furiosa]
Although Charlize Theron won't be reprising her role as Imperator Furiosa, Taylor-Joy had nothing but praise for the actress.
"I fell in love with Furiosa, the way that Charlize presented her," Taylor-Joy said. "She did such an incredible job and it was so beautiful and I can't even think about trying to step [into her shoes]. It has to be something different, because it just can't be done."
Anya Taylor-Joy is known most recently for her work in The New Mutants as well as Emma and The Witch.
Mad Max Furiosa will begin filming in 2021 and is expected to launch in 2022. Actors Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will star alongside Anya Taylor-Joy.

I Know What You Did Last Summer TV Series Headed to Amazon
Amazon Studios has announced it will be adapting the 1997 horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer into an upcoming TV series headed to Amazon Prime Video. Similar to the 1997 film, the upcoming series is also based on the original 1973 novel by Lois Duncan.
Amazon says the series is a modern take on the classic film but features a similar premise that includes a group of teens stalked by a killer after a fatal accident occurred during their graduation night.

“The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this I Know What You Did Last Summer series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie,” said Albert Cheng, COO and co-head of television at Amazon Studios.
The series will be written and executive produced by Sara Goodman, who previously wrote episodes of Preacher, Outsider, and Gossip Girl. It is being produced in partnership with Sony Pictures Television.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Gameplay Details, FPS, and Abilities Revealed
There’s a bunch of new details about Spider-Man: Miles Morales courtesy of Game Informer, who has a cover story on the upcoming “expandalone” adventure. Details including unique gameplay additions, powers, suits, and boss fights.
In this month’s cover story, Game Informer got an extensive preview of the opening hours for Spider-Man: Miles Morales. As it says on the title, Miles Morales, formerly of the Ultimate Spider-Man universe, is the star of Insomniac’s next Spidey adventure.
Miles isn’t just a carbon copy of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. He has unique abilities such as the Venom strike, which can be performed by holding down the L1 and the attack button. But Venom abilities require players to fill up a Venom Meter that charges similarly to Peter’s Focus Meter.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/16/spider-man-miles-morales-gameplay-trailer"]
Likewise, Spider-Man: Miles Morales gives players the option to engage with encounters via stealth. But Miles has a temporary camouflage that lets him turn partially invisible. This will let players turn a standard combat encounter into a stealth encounter, even after an enemy sees them.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be playable on the PS5 in two modes: a 4K/60 fps Performance Mode and a 4K/30 fps Fidelity Mode. Fidelity Mode offers ray tracing and other visual effects that won’t be available in the Performance Mode. Load times have also been eliminated
As for bosses, so far Insomniac has shown off Miles facing off against the Rhino and the Tinkerer and Roxxon Corporation. Insomniac says more villains from the Spider-Man universe could appear, though it won’t be as many as the ones Peter Parker faced.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=confirmed-playstation-5-games&captions=true"]
While the lead and the setting (now entirely focused on the neighborhood of Harlem) have changed, gameplay-wise there will be some returning features. Miles can still fulfill the role of friendly neighborhood Spider-Man by tracking local crimes via the Friendly Neighborhood Spider App developed by his friend Ganke Lee.
The app replaces the police scanner from the first game but can be accessed more easily by swiping left on the DualSense touchpad. Photo mode also returns with revamped features like additional custom lighting options.
There will, of course, be a variety of unlockable suits and Insomniac has some pretty wild ones for Miles including a Daft Punk-looking 2020 Suit and a Cat Suit so named because Miles carries an attacking cat in his backpack.
Check out our PS5 wiki for a full list of launch games and additional details for Sony’s next-gen system.
