Cohen on Giuliani’s Borat 2 Denial: “He Did What He Did”

WARNING! Major SPOILERS ahead for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm! This article has been updated with Rudy Giuliani and Borat's responses. For more, read our spoiler-free review of Borat 2. Update 2, 10/23/20: Actor-producer Sacha Baron Cohen and his co-star Mara Bakalova appeared on Good Morning America on Friday where Cohen, this time not in character, refuted Rudy Giuliani's account of the now infamous scene in Borat 2. "“I would say that if the president’s lawyer found what he did there appropriate behavior then heaven knows what he’s doing with other female journalists in hotel rooms," Cohen said, before going on to explain how they built a hideaway for him to be able to monitor what transpired between Bakalova and Giuliani. Update 10/23/2020: Borat himself has now responded to Rudy Giuliani's rebuttal of the footage. Sacha Baron Cohen, in character as Borat Sagdiyev, appeared in a video on Twitter to 'defend America's mayor', which you can watch below: [poilib element="accentDivider"] Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and the current personal attorney of President Donald Trump, is now embroiled in a personal scandal after being caught in a compromising position in the new film Borat 2, which is being released on Amazon on October 23. Actress Maria Bakalova, in her feature film debut, plays Borat's daughter Tutar - an aspiring journalist who, in a pivotal scene near the end of the film, interviews Giuliani about the Trump Administration's COVID-19 response. Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen, in disguise, appears as Tutar's sound operator. Shot this past July, "Tutar" and Giuliani's interview takes place in a New York City hotel room. The interview begins with them exchanging pleasantries and they are seen making physical contact during the interview. Giuliani is flirtatious with Tutar and is seen coughing throughout the segment. [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/20/borat-2-official-pregnancy-center-clip] After the interview, Tutar/Bakalova and Giuliani enter an adjacent bedroom that has a concealed camera in it. Shortly thereafter Giuliani is seen leaning back on the bed, undoing his trousers, reaching into his pants, and appearing to touch himself. It's then that Cohen's Borat, dressed in a bikini, reenters the scene and interrupts Giuliani, yelling, "She’s 15. She’s too old for you.” (Bakalova is not underage but her character Tutar is supposed to be 15 years-old.) Giuliani then flees the hotel room and is seen interacting with his team outside. At no point during this scene do we see Tutar/Bakalova make any sexual contact with Giuliani but she does remove his microphone in the bedroom. Rudy Giuliani took to Twitter on Wednesday to address his appearance in Borat 2, claiming at no point did he act "inappropriate" and alleging that the footage was manipulated. "The Borat video is a complete fabrication. I was tucking in my shirt after taking off the recording equipment," Giuliani wrote. "At no time before, during, or after the interview was I ever inappropriate. If Sacha Baron Cohen implies otherwise he is a stone-cold liar." Giuliani went on to claim that he's the victim of a political smear attack in "an effort to blunt my relentless exposure of the criminality and depravity of Joe Biden and his entire family." The former New York City mayor called the NYPD after the faux interview but reportedly didn't immediately recognize the prankster as Cohen. As it was reported by the New York Post at the time, Giuliani made no mention of the sexual nature of how the scene ended, only relaying that Cohen interrupted the interview and that he thought he was being scammed. Giuliani did say at the time that he was a fan of the first Borat film. “This guy comes running in, wearing a crazy, what I would say was a pink transgender outfit ... I only later realized it must have been Sacha Baron Cohen. I thought about all the people he previously fooled and I felt good about myself because he didn’t get me,” Giuliani told the Post in July, adding, “I am a fan of some of his movies, ‘Borat’ in particular, because I’ve been to Kazakhstan. [Adopting a Borat accent, Guiliani repeats a famous line from the movie:] ‘She is my sister. She is number four prostitute in all of Kazakhstan.’ That was pretty funny.” As part of the movie's plot, Borat initially needs to gift his daughter Tutar to Vice President Mike Pence on behalf of the leader of Kazakhstan. When that fails he then tries to gift her to Giuliani. By the time the Giuliani scene arrives, though, Borat has had a change of heart and wants to stop the gifting even though it may cost him his life once he returns home to Kazakhstan. Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales: New Crimson Cowl Suit Revealed

With just a few more weeks until Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is released on PS5 and PS4, Insomniac Games has revealed yet another new spider-suit for Miles dubbed the Crimson Cowl Suit. Since the debut of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, we've been given quite a few glimpses at Miles' main spidey suit and his recently-revealed T.R.A.C.K. suit. Insomniac revealed the new Crimson Cowl suit today on Twitter and it's one of Miles' most fashionable suits yet. You can check it out in the tweet below. As you can see in the tweet above, the Crimson Cowl suit is being teased as a two-piece suit that makes Miles look ready to hit in the gym. It features a first for this universe of spider-men in the form of a hooded suit and it gives us some serious Spider-Gwen vibes. As you'd expect, the suit is mostly crimson red and black, which is the running color theme for Miles. Below is another look at the suit: Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales Crimson Cowl Suit As for when we can expect to obtain this suit in the game or even how to obtain the suit, it's anybody's guess. If it's anything like Marvel's Spider-Man on PlayStation 4, the Crimson Cowl suit is likely earned after either completing a specific story mission or by leveling up Miles. We'll know the answer soon when Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales launches on PS4 and PS5 on November 12. Catch up on everything Miles Morales before the game launches next month by watching the official Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales trailer recap and then watch the latest gameplay trailer. Read these six Miles Morales stories that we think could be inspiring the game and then take a look at the new Peter Parker model in Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered on PS5. Pokemon Sword & Shield’s Legendary Birds Will Roam Like Gold & Silver’s Legendary Dogs

The Galarian legendary birds from Pokemon Sword & Shield's Crown Tundra expansion will roam like Pokemon Gold & Silver's legendary dogs. A Game Informer preview of the new DLC explains that some of the footage shown to press concerned a quest called 'A Legendary Tree of a Legendary Three' in which Galarian Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno fight and then scatter across the Crown Tundra, to be found by players as they explore the region. "They realize you're watching, and they disperse to different parts of the Crown Tundra," the preview reads. Following the trail of the new legendary trio, players will be able to track, chase and eventually battle the new Pokemon forms, in a fashion that will be familiar to fans of the Pokemon Gold and Silver games. "The Pokemon Company likens the methods of encountering the Legendary trio to how you encountered the Legendary dogs in the Johto region," the preview adds. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/29/pokemon-sword-and-shield-crown-tundra-expansion-pass-trailer"] The idea of roaming Pokemon was introduced in the Johto region with the legendary dogs Suicune, Entei and Raikou and has persisted throughout the franchise. The preview explains a particular situation where a Pokemon master sneaks up on Galarian Zapdos but is caught, causing it to flee, forcing the player to catch up to it on their bike, with a battle waiting at the end of the process for the most persistent players. For more information on the Crown Tundra DLC, check out our own preview of the expansion, which we think provides solid opportunities to build competitive teams. The Crown Tundra DLC will arrive on October 22 as part of Pokemon Sword & Shield's Expansion Pass. NBA 2K21 on Xbox Series and PS5 to Add ‘Next-Gen AI’ and New MyPlayer Options

The next-gen versions of NBA 2K21 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will feature next-gen AI and new MyPlayer customization. The next-gen versions of NBA 2K21 are set to launch on November 10 and November 12 on Xbox Series X and PS5, respectively, and 2K has released a slew of details today about AI and MyPlayer customization. In terms of customization, 2K has reworked how stats are presented, how badges work, and how the Takeover system applies to players in the game. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-nba-2k-review-ever&captions=true"] "The next-gen player builder is all about customization," a blog post from 2K reads. "We've taken in a lot of feedback from the community over the past few years as we've evolved the MyPLAYER building experience. One thing that we heard loud and clear from you is that you want more options." 2K says that preset skill breakdown pie charts are a thing of the past and that players will instead be given control over setting each individual rating to the cap they prefer. There will still be restrictions based on in-game player vitals so players won't be able to max out every skill, but 2K says there's more control than before to make your character exactly who you want them to be. Badges have been reworked for next-gen NBA 2K21 as well. Many fan-favorites will return, but 2K says that most have undergone significant functionality changes. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=nba-2k21-screenshots&captions=true"] "There are also some new ones, some revived ones, and some removed ones," according to the blog post. "The badge point system and equipping process is similar to what you've grown accustomed to: perform well in the various categories (Finishing, Shooting, Playmaking, Defense/Rebounding) in any mode to earn badge points, and then apply those points to whatever badges you want within those related categories." You can read an even more detailed breakdown about badges in the blog post for additional information about the changes to this system. The last aspect of the new next-gen MyPlayer customization, Takeover, has been "taken to the next level for next gen," according to 2K. Instead of limiting players to eight general archetype-based takeovers, 2K says it's broken up those eight takeovers into 24 more-specific abilities. The blog post has a list of all 24 abilities if you're interested in what those are. On the AI side of things, 2K says next-gen represented an opportunity to reset a lot of areas of gameplay. "This was especially true when it came to artificial intelligence," according to 2K. "Some of these items are immediately noticeable and some are more nuanced for the hardcore X's and O's hoop heads. But one thing's for certain, NBA 2K21 continues to lead the way in accurately modeling its respective sport better than anyone else out there. That's something we pride ourselves in and know that the true students of the game appreciate about the franchise." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/17/nba-2k21-review"] Speaking to AI defense, an update to on-ball, off-ball, and auto-switching logic has been made and 2K says players can expect to see fewer cases of AI calling for a switch without a screen. The Adaptive Coaching Engine also has the ability to recognize and adapt to different types of off-ball actions now and CPU defenders have improved logic. The Hedge defensive system has been overhauled as well and players can now call for help on defense by holding L1/LB instead of just calling for a double team. In terms of AI offense, 2K has implemented "next gen game planning" that includes new offensive game plans so that players can pick a single option and get straight into the action. Double team counter intelligence has also been improved as has the end-of-game logic. Favorite plays return and can now be used to set up a group of plays for starting units and bench units. The play and freelance offensive flow has been improved, AI players have been improved to prevent out-of-bounds positioning, and new pick-and-roll spacing has been implemented with plans for continued improvement to the system in the future. Check out our current-gen NBA 2K21 review while waiting for the next-gen versions to launch next month and then read about how the PS5's DualSense will simulate how tired players are in-game. Borderlands 3 Designer’s Cut New Skill Trees Revealed

2K has revealed two new Skill Trees coming as part of Borderlands 3’s Designer’s Cut, which is coming as part of the game’s second season pass this November. The two new skill trees are for Vault Hunters Amara and FL4K. The first, for Amara, is the Enlightened Force skill tree, which allows you to build Amara around cryo elemental effects and freezing enemies. The tree’s passives help maximise elemental damage and show enemies down, while the Phaseflare action skill summons an orb of elemental energy that can be controlled and directed towards enemies. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/08/borderlands-3-fl4k-character-trailer-the-hunt"] For FL4K, the Designer’s Cut adds the Trapper skill tree, which provides shield and critical hit bonuses for the character’s pet. The tree’s action skill is Gravity Snare, which periodically lifts enemies into the air, interrupts their attacks, and then slams them into the ground for damage. Both skill trees are now available to view and customise on the Borderlands 3 website - check out the Amara and FL4K ones here - which allows you to see all the branches and what individual skills can provide. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=top-10-borderlands-dlc-of-all-time&captions=true"] These skill trees are part of the Designer’s Cut, which releases on November 10, and can be bought individually or as part of Season Pass 2, which also includes the Director’s Cut DLC that will release in Spring 2021. Designer’s Cut also includes Arms Race, a new mode that will be revealed on October 22. Devolver Digital Buys Serious Sam Developer Croteam

Devolver Digital has purchased Serious Sam developer Croteam. Devolver Digital announced today that, having worked together for over a decade, the decision has been made to bring the two companies together, with Devolver joking in its announcement blog post that they had decided to get married. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=serious-sam-4-screenshots&captions=true"] "Croteam and Devolver Digital have been dating for so long that we decided to go ahead and just get married," the blog post reads. Despite the acquisition, Devolver says Croteam will maintain "total creative freedom," although Devolver still plans to keep making "dumb recommendations that Croteam just ignores." The announcement came with a summary of the relationship between Devolver and Croteam. Croteam began nearly 30 years ago as a group of childhood friends in a small garage in Zagreb, Croatia. The studio "was built around creative experimentation, pushing technical boundaries, and a trust in one another that would span decades." Croteam started with soccer games before putting together a demo that eventually became the first Serious Sam. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/23/the-first-13-minutes-of-serious-sam-4"] The team struggled to find a publisher for the demo, and subsequent game, but one publisher bit: Gathering of Developers. "That support blossomed into friendship and respect which would eventually reconnect Croteam with some of the Gathering of Developers team when they later helped found Devolver Digital," according to the blog post. "A decade ago, Devolver Digital was just getting started and looking for its first project to partner on in the emerging digital distribution world. Similarly, Croteam was on the search for a partner it could trust to help them bring their beloved franchise back to prominence with the upcoming Serious Sam 3. And like that, the next big Serious Sam game brought old partners back together and forged a decade of friendship and dedication." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2016/05/23/the-talos-principle-sequel-confirmed"] Croteam and Devolver have partnered up on dozens of games since then, namely with Serious Sam titles and The Talos Principle, and now the two are one. Devolver said fans of Croteam can expect The Talos Principle 2, more Serious Sam games, and original IP in the future. If you haven't checked out the latest Serious Sam, you can read our thoughts about it in our Serious Sam 4 review. Check out our review of The Talos Principle too and then read about the game's sequel. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Wesley LeBlanc is a freelance news writer and guide maker for IGN. Ubisoft Connect Is a Next-Gen Uplay With Cross-Progression and Digital Rewards

Ubisoft has announced Ubisoft Connect, a new player service that combines and expands upon its two existing digital services: Uplay and Ubisoft Club. Players will be able to track their progress in any Ubisoft game while earning exclusive rewards through its loyalty program. Ubisoft Connect is a new “universal interface” that will be available on all platforms and work with all Ubisoft games starting with Watch Dogs: Legion. With a single button press, players will be able to pull up a refreshed in-game overlay on PC and consoles that features all your standard overlay toolkits. Track your activity, see which friends are online, and check in on a game’s community. Ubisoft Connect will also provide “Smart Intel” which is a feature that delivers gameplay tips and videos based on a player’s game activities. Not unlike the new game help feature in the PS5 UI. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=ubisoft-connect-screenshots&captions=true"] Also included is a points-based rewards service where players can tackle time-limited and community challenges to earn rewards, and then exchange the earned points for exclusive digital goods. These can be cosmetics like skins or weapons or also XP buffs. Ubisoft tells IGN that the rewards program is massively popular in live-service games like Rainbow Six: Siege, but the rewards experience will be brought to single-player affairs like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Immortals Fenyx Rising, and more. So players may be able to earn exclusive cosmetics through Ubisoft Connect in those games as well. Ubisoft Connect will also fully embrace cross-platform features including full cross-progression, cross-platform friends list, and stats, and leaderboards. Speaking to IGN Stephanie Perotti, VP of Online Services says Ubisoft Connect is meant to unify Ubisoft’s full player services into one global expe5irence that it will be provided on all Ubisoft games on all platforms. For players, the most exciting part will likely be tied to the rewards, which can be earned by completing challenges through Ubisoft Connect on any Ubisoft games. Perotti says that in the past the systems for earning rewards were “rigid” and that with Ubisoft Connect the process should be more fluid. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/29/assassins-creed-valhalla-story-trailer"] Perotti said that in a game like Rainbow Six, for example, there are a set number of achievements that will eventually be completed. With Ubisoft Connect, developers can regularly introduce new challenges for players who might be brushing up against all the challenges in a single title. When asked if Ubisoft designed its interface to not clash with existing overlays, Ubisoft Connect's Creative Director Charles Huteau said, “For sure we took into account all the other interface you can have on other platforms. What was key for us is not to compete with those interfaces but to bring something that goes along and offers you additional content that only Ubisoft can bring you.” At launch, Ubisoft will unlock over 1,000 legacy Ubisoft Club rewards for free to all players so that more rewards can be introduced through Ubisoft Connect. Ubisoft Connect will be available on Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch and it will be released on October 29 with Watch Dogs: Legion. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M. Kim is a reporter for IGN.

Star Wars: The High Republic Reveals 4 New Jedi Padawans

Lucasfilm has unveiled four new Jedi Padawans that are featured in Star Wars: The High Republic. StarWars.com has officially pulled back the curtain on these four new characters by providing first look images and fresh details about the "wide range" of Padawan learners in the High Republic era. The creators behind Lucasfilm's multi-pronged publishing initiative have also shared some additional insights into the next class of Jedi, which features Burryaga, Reath Silas, Lula Talisola, and Bell Zettifar. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/27/star-wars-the-high-republic-explained"] "The High Republic Padawans really run the gamut in terms of skill, devotion, and personality," explains Lucasfilm Publishing executive editor Jennifer Heddle. "Some are reluctant to seek out adventure while some are perhaps a little too eager; some are extremely talented in the Force while others maybe have to work a little bit harder. We wanted to showcase a wide range of young people in the hopes every reader can find someone they relate to." You can check out the new Jedi Padawans in our slideshow below or keep scrolling for the full article. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=star-wars-meet-the-jedi-padawans-of-the-high-republic&captions=true"]

Burryaga

Burryaga Light of the Jedi author Charles Soule reveals that "Burryaga is one of the few Wookiees to travel from the lush forests of Kashyyyk to study in the ornate halls of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant" where he is taught by his devoted master Nib Assek, who learned the Shyriiwook language in order better educate her student in the ways of the Force. Soule describes Burryaga as being "skilled" with his two-handed lightsaber, though he notes that he has talents in other areas, too. The "gifted" student is said to possess a "natural, effortless ability to sense the emotions of others," which sets him apart from other members of the Order. Where to Find Him: Star Wars: The High Republic - Light of the Jedi novel by Charles Soule.

Reath Silas

Reath Silas Into the Dark author Claudia Gray says that Reath Silas experiences a "huge transition" across the pages of her book. He is said to have had "a somewhat privileged apprenticeship because his master, Jora Malli, is a member of the Jedi Council," which means that he has spent most of his time on Coruscant, attending "elevated diplomatic meetings" and other high-status gatherings. Therefore, Reath's shift to the frontier is probably going to be quite drastic, though it will ultimately help him to learn "what he's really made of." Where to Find Him:  Star Wars the High Republic - Into the Dark novel by Claudia Gray.

Lula Talisola

Lula Talisola Daniel José Older, the writer of The High Republic Adventures comic, describes Lula Talisola as a "loyal and compassionate" character who "is all about the Jedi Order." He says, "she loves it, can hardly wait to get Knighted, and wants to be the best Jedi that ever was." The determined young padawan wields a blue lightsaber, which she is apparently very skilled with, as she has risen the ranks to become the "top of her class." However, Lula isn't all about herself, as she makes a point of looking out for her two best friends, Farzala and Qort, "especially when they're causing mischief." Where to Find Her: Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures comic by Daniel José Older.

Bell Zettifar

Bell Zettifar Bell Zettifar appears in Soule's Light of the Jedi novel alongside Burryaga. Bell is apprenticed to the legendary Loden Greatstorm in the upcoming novel, where they are both "stationed at a Jedi Outpost on the ore-world of Elphrona, deep in the Outer Rim." Even though the conditions are described as harsh, Bell and his master work together to "keep the peace and spread the light," with Bell spending most of his time training and "wandering the iron hills of the planet with a charhound named Ember." Where to Find Him: Star Wars: The High Republic - Light of the Jedi novel by Charles Soule. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Lucasfilm delayed the launch of its cross-media Star Wars prequel series from August 2020 to January 2021 as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, so there's still plenty of time to dig into The High Republic archives.
