Halo Infinite Director Leaves Project After Delay

Halo Infinite project director Chris Lee has left the project after following a delay that will see the next Master Chief adventure released in 2021 instead of this holiday. Lee confirmed the departure to Bloomberg News. In a statement Lee said, “I have stepped back from Infinite and I am looking at future opportunities. I believe in the team and am confident they will deliver a great game and now is a good time for me to step away. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=confirmed-xbox-series-x-games&captions=true"] Lee is the latest top director to depart the project after creative director Tim Longo left 343 in 2019 followed by lead producer Mary Olson. Halo veteran Joe Staten now leads the single-player campaign development, and Pierre Hintze is leading multiplayer. “Chris Lee remains a Microsoft employee and while he has stepped back from Halo: Infinite right now, we appreciate all he has done for the project to date,” Microsoft said in a statement provided to Bloomberg. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/23/halo-infinite-9-minutes-of-campaign-gameplay"] Halo Infinite was originally slated to be a launch game alongside the Xbox Series X this holiday, but was delayed until 2021 to further develop and refine the project after a tepid reveal over the summer. However, Xbox Series X boxes still include pictures of Master Chief as part of the original launch plan. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M. Kim is a reporter for IGN.

PS5: How to Get the PSVR Free Adaptor

Sony has detailed how owners of PlayStation VR will be able to acquire a free PlayStation Camera adaptor to allow their virtual reality headset to work with PS5. The first step is to visit the Sony support page for owners of a PS VR headset (Models CUH-ZEY1 or CUH-ZEY2) and request the PS4 PlayStation Camera adapter to work on PS5. If you weren't aware, the PS5's HD Camera is not compatible with the original PSVR, so this will be the only current option for those looking to bring their PSVR with them to the next-generation. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/28/ps5-official-launch-trailer-featuring-travis-scott"] Once received, you can plug the PlayStation Camera adaptor into the USB Type-A port in the back of your PS5 console, and then connect the PlayStation Camera to the AUX port on the adaptor. If you want to grab one of these adaptors, you'll need to provide your PSVR processor unit serial number, first name, last name, email address, shipping address, and phone number. Your serial number can be found on the rear panel of the PSVR processor unit. Only one PlayStation Camera adaptor can be redeemed per household. All regions should be eligible, but check the support page to make totally sure. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=top-25-psvr-games&captions=true"] The PlayStation Camera Adaptor will be covered by a manufacturer's warranty for 12 months from the date of delivery. AMD Reveals its Radeon RX 6800 XT Graphics Card, Costs $649

Meet AMD's newest graphics cards, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800. AMD came out swinging, throwing down the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT's big specs that includes 72 compute units, 16GB of DDR6 video memory, 2015MHz Game Clock and 2250MHz Boost Clock, and 128MB Infinity Cache. With all this power the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT aims to deliver 4K gaming at the highest settings. It will compete directly with the Nvidia RTX 3080 and AMD promises its card beats the competition using less power with a maximum TDP of 300W. Radeon RX 6800 gaming In benchmarks AMD shows the Radeon RX 6800 XT delivers more frames per second than the Nvidia RTX 3080 in almost every game and you can expect most titles to run at well above 60 fps even at a 4K resolution. The Radeon RX 6800 XT also comes with simple one button overclocking through software called Rage Mode similar to what AMD's Rzyen Master software has done for its processors. Of course, as with AMD's previous Navi graphics cards, there's a regular Radeon RX 6800 underneath its XT variant. The regular RX 6800 brings a little less power with 60 compute units, a 1815Mhz base clock, 2105Mhz boost clock, 16GB of GDDR6 memory, and a 250W TDP. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT will be available for $649 and the Radeon RX 6800 costs $579, both cards will release on November 18th. And if you're looking for even more graphics power, AMD also introduced its Big Navi GPU, the Radeon RX 6900. Raven Software Co-Founder Talks About the Origins of Heretic, the ‘Medieval Doom’

Raven Software co-founder Brian Raffel has revealed details on the development of the classic shooter, Heretic, including a comment from id Software's John Carmack that helped the team home in on the game's signature style. IGN's Ryan McCaffrey sat down with Raffel to discuss Raven Software's broad history in the latest episode of IGN Unfiltered, along with discussions on Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War, Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Hexen, Heretic, Soldier of Fortune, and more. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2009/03/09/from-hexen-to-wolverine-part-1"] Heretic has long been described as 'medieval Doom' or 'fantasy Doom,' and those are apt descriptions. When asked where the idea for Heretic came from, Raffel said, "The big story there is, [id] wanted to work with us. They wanted to do a fantasy game. It didn't start out to be a 'Doom fantasy.' We started... typical D&D players, we first started designing the game and we got super deep into all this... you know... your Strength, Wisdom... all the usual stuff. And, of course, it's a credit to John Carmack, here. He said, 'Just do it like Doom, and add the fantasy flavor.'" The fantasy setting isn't the only notable departure from the Doom formula, however, as the game's protagonist could also fly, a power Doom Guy could only dream of. "I have to call out Chris Rhinehart, who was one of our programmers at the time. Kind of a funny story about the flying... it's so true, so many of these stories are these 'happy accidents...' Chris came up with the idea of moving the horizon line just up and down. It wasn't a real calculation of flying, it was a hack... That was such a big event for us, and that gave us our unique flavor." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-campaign-screenshots&captions=true"] While Heretic did get several follow-ups, whether they carried the Heretic or Hexen name, Raffel did comment on the possibility of a modern series entry or reboot. "Never say never... We get a lot of requests for it, for sure and, of course, I'd always love to do it. That's for another day, I guess... We'll see." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2009/03/09/from-hexen-to-wolverine-part-2"] In addition to his roles as Producer and Creative Director, Raffel humorously noted id Software co-founder John Romero bought the team at Raven their first work refrigerator, which was a big deal for them. "People don't understand what game development was back then, but it was five guys in a basement. You go to Sam's Club and get a case of Coke and chips, and you just sat at your desk all day... Those were fun days."
