Vlambeer Closes Its Doors After 10 Years

Vlambeer, the Dutch indie studio founded by Rami Ismail and Jan Willem Nijman, has announced that it is shutting down. The news comes on Vlambeer’s 10th anniversary after it was founded by Ismail and Willem Nijman in 2010 while the two were still students. Unlike other studio closures, Vlambeer has made the conscious decision to shut down its outfit, or “like a boyband splitting up,” as co-founder Rami Ismail said in an email to IGN. Vlambeer’s 10-year career includes hyperactive takes on arcade-style gameplay. In 2010 the duo released Super Crate Box. The team followed with the successful Ridiculous Fishing in 2013, Luftrausers in 2014, and Nuclear Throne in 2015. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/12/16/nuclear-throne-review"] Vlambeer confirmed that its current project ULTRABUGS will still launch and that there will be select support for former games. “It’s not a sad day for us, but a happy conclusion to a whirlwind decade filled with screenshake,” the company said in a Tweet. “It feels like we’ve achieved what we set out to do — as a studio, as a voice, and as individuals, and we are extremely grateful for these past years.” There is a Vlambeer and Friends goodbye sale live on Steam where you can check out the team’s past games, as well as other games from other indie devs. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M. Kim is a reporter for IGN and congratulates Vlambeer on a prolific 10-year run.

DC Officially Makes Tim Drake Robin Again

In yet another sign the '90s have returned with a vengeance, Tim Drake has officially reclaimed the mantle of Robin in the DC Universe. This change comes just under a year after Young Justice co-writer Brian Michael Bendis revealed a new costume and new codename for Batman's former sidekick. Tim has been using the name "Drake" ever since, a reference to both his surname and the member of the avian family. But in the pages of Young Justice #18, Tim chooses to revert to his classic costume and codename following an adventure with Spoiler. And as this team gathering shows, his fellow teen heroes seem very happy with that decision: [caption id="attachment_2401786" align="aligncenter" width="1399"]Art by Scott Godlewski. (Image Credit: DC) Art by Scott Godlewski. (Image Credit: DC)[/caption] Interestingly, this story comes just one week after the release of Teen Titans Annual #2, which features Damian Wayne giving up the mantle of Robin. Mourning the recent death of Alfred Pennyworth and wanting to distance himself from his father, Damian seems intent on leaving both the Bat-family and the Titans behind to forge a new destiny. [caption id="attachment_2401793" align="aligncenter" width="924"]Art by Eduardo Pansica. (Image Credit: DC) Art by Eduardo Pansica. (Image Credit: DC)[/caption] Tim Drake was officially introduced as Batman's third Robin in 1989's Batman #436, remaining in the role almost consistently until Damian's debut in 2006. Tim rose to even greater prominence thanks to his animated debut in The New Batman Adventures. Since Damian's debut, Tim has largely distanced himself from Batman. While at times he's begrudgingly shared the Robin mantle with the headstrong Damian, he's just as often tried to forge his own identity as either Drake or Red Robin. Now Tim seems content to return to the role many fans remember best, even while Damian becomes something else entirely. It remains to be seen what the future holds for both Tim and Damian, but all signs point to major changes at DC Comics in 2021. With both Young Justice and Teen Titans ending in November, we're expecting a new Teen Titans series to launch in the aftermath of crossovers like Batman: Joker War and Dark Nights: Death Metal. We could even see Tim return to being Batman's sidekick. It's worth remembering Batman writer James Tynion IV is a self-professed huge Tim Drake fan and previously included him as a main character in his Detective Comics run. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=all-the-times-batman-and-robin-broke-up&captions=true"] Are you happy to see Tim back in his classic role? Let us know in the comments below. In other recent Batman news, Batman may be getting a flashy silver costume soon, while DC is teasing a brand new take on the Dark Knight courtesy of 12 Years a Slave screenwriter John Ridley. Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR Comic Gets a Kickstarter

While BOOM! Studios is gearing up for the October 7 debut of BRZRKR, a new action-fantasy series co-written by Keanu Reeves, the publisher is also turning to Kickstarter to boost the project's reach. BOOM! has launched a Kickstarter drive that allows backers to pre-order box sets of the three BRZRKR graphic novels (each of which will collect four issues of the 12-issue limited series). Depending on the tier you choose, you'll be able to pre-order softcover or hardcover editions, some of which feature Kickstarter-exclusive cover designs. Higher tiers offer additional perks like a signed art print or the chance to be drawn as a character in the story. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=brzrkr-get-a-sneak-peek-of-keanu-reeves-new-comic&captions=true"] As of the time of publishing, the Kickstarter has already surpassed its initial $50,000 funding goal, and BOOM! is teasing future stretch goals to be revealed at a later date. BRZRKR is co-written by Reeves and Matt Kindt (X-O Manowar, Mind MGMT), with art by Ron Garney (The Amazing Spider-Man, Conan the Barbarian), colors by Bill Crabtree (BPRD), and letters by Clem Robins (Hellboy). Rafael Grampá (Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child) provided character designs and is also drawing covers alongside prolific Marvel/DC cover artist Mark Brooks. [caption id="attachment_2401731" align="aligncenter" width="4125"]Garney has seemingly worked an iconic Internet meme into the story. Garney has seemingly worked an iconic Internet meme into the story.[/caption] BOOM's official description for the series teases:
"In this brutally violent new series, the man known only as Berzerker is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence...even at the sacrifice of his sanity.  But after wandering the world for centuries, Berzerker may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, Berzerker will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it."
“Many companies use Kickstarter to fund their projects. We are not doing this,” said BOOM! Studios CEO and founder Ross Richie in the publisher's press release. “We are working with Kickstarter as a distribution platform to expand our reach. It’s our dream here at BOOM! Studios to introduce new readers to the medium of comic books and graphic novels. By combining the reach of Kickstarter with the interest in Keanu Reeves and the action-packed epic that is BRZRKR, we’re excited to introduce so many folks to their very first comic book.” The Kickstarter drive will remain open until October 1. Backers will receive each individual graphic novel at the same time the mass market editions are released in stores. BOOM! estimates Vol. 1 will be released in September 2021, followed by Vol. 2 in April 2022 and Vol. 3 in September 2022. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/27/bill-ted-face-the-music-review"] BRZRKR is one of many projects keeping Reeves busy these days. He recently reprised the role of Ted "Theodore" Logan in Bill and Ted face the Music and will return to another iconic role in the upcoming The Matrix 4. Reeves has also been in talks to join the MCU, and we have some ideas for the Marvel characters he could play. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jesse is a mild-mannered staff writer for IGN. Ubisoft Will Seemingly Re-Reveal Gods & Monsters at Next Ubisoft Forward

Ubisoft will seemingly re-reveal Gods & Monsters during its next Ubisoft Forward showcase. Gods & Monsters was last seen at Ubisoft's E3 2019 event and word on the title has been somewhat quiet since then. Fans have assumed that it's one of the Ubisoft's five confirmed AAA games planned for release in late 2020 or early 2021 but that's not guaranteed. It seems we'll finally learn more about Gods & Monsters if Ubisoft's latest Ubisoft Forward Line-Up Reveal trailer is any indication. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/06/10/gods-monsters-reveal-trailer-e3-2019"] "Ubisoft Forward this September 10th will feature new games and big news on Ubisoft's upcoming lineup of games and content and it's right around the corner," the description for the trailer reads. While there's no confirmation of what games we can expect to see during the digital event, the trailer seemingly reveals what will be shown. Some clips appear to be from Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Quarantine, Watch Dogs Legion, Hyperscape, and some footage from what looks like Gods & Monsters. You can check out some screenshots we took while watching the trailer to see for yourself. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=gods-monsters-re-reveal-tease&captions=true"] If this trailer is any indication, we'll be learning more about Gods & Monsters on Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. PDT. If you're wondering why titles like Assassin's Creed Valhalla seem to be missing from the lineup, it's probably because that game was shown during July's Ubisoft Forward event. While waiting for Sept. 10, read about how Gods & Monsters will be on PS5 and Xbox Series X and then read about how some gameplay for Gods & Monsters leaked due to a Google Stadia bug. We previewed the game last year and you can read that to learn why we think it isn't just a Breath of the Wild clone. Marvel’s Avengers Adds Kate Bishop as the First Post-Launch DLC Character

Kate Bishop, the other Hawkeye in the Marvel's universe, officially joins Marvel's Avengers as the first post-launch DLC character. Bishop will arrive as part of the "Taking Aim" post-launch content and it will include a playable Bishop, who will have her own set of gear and abilities to unlock. There will also be a new story mission and villain that ties into the overarching "Avengers Initiative" storyline. Crystal Dynamics also confirmed that some expansions will add new regions as well, expanding the scale of its live Avengers title. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/01/marvels-avengers-kate-bishop-reveal-trailer"] Other parts of the War Table were dedicated to highlighting all the different types of content in Marvel's Avengers, from end-level raids to gauntlet-style challenges, and more. At the start of the stream, Marvel's Avengers teased Black Panther content with a new logo, but in a message said that out of "respect for a fallen true hero, we have altered what we are showing today." Screen Shot 2020-09-01 at 10.16.49 AM It's likely the War Table had information about Black Panther content but out of respect for actor Chadwick Boseman, who died of colon cancer last week at the age of 43, Marvel's Avengers opted to hold the announcement for a later time. Every IGN Marvel Superhero Game Review

From the soaring heights of Marvel's Spider-Man to the delirious lows of 1997's Fantastic Four, there have been many, many Marvel games - and IGN has reviewed 136 of them. With the upcoming release of Marvel's Avengers on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia on September 4, 2020, we thought it'd be the perfect time to look back at each and every IGN Marvel Superhero game review. Check out all the scores in the slideshow below. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-marvel-superhero-game-review&captions=true"] Let us know which game has been your favorite, and which Avenger you are most excited to become, in the comment section below. Also, be sure to check out our review-in-progress for Marvel's Avengers, in which we said "This beta’s campaign content had flashes of brilliance, and I am genuinely excited and optimistic to play the rest of that story. But the other side of the Avengers coin, that of a Destiny-style looter seemingly meant to be replayed long after the campaign credits roll, has me wholly unimpressed and extremely worried. It could easily be that those concerns are unfounded once I play the full game, but right now I’m left as anxious as I am impatient to find out." [poilib element="accentDivider"] Have a tip for us?
