21 Book to TV Adaptations We Can’t Wait to Watch

From The Godfather to Gone With the Wind, Hollywood has always relied on books to provide some of its best ideas -- and lucky for TV fans, the ambitious novels that were previously reserved for big budget blockbusters are finally getting the sprawling small-screen adaptations they deserve.

This week sees the release of AMC's McMafia and Hulu's The Looming Tower, two fascinating and complex series that deserve a place on your watchlist -- but there are plenty more adaptations on the horizon. Below, we spotlight 21 upcoming projects making the jump from page to screen in the next couple of years that we're particularly excited for.

Which adaptation are you most looking forward to seeing? Are you itching for another adaptation of Lord of the Rings, or is Peter Jackson's trilogy untouchable? Do you think Showtime and Lin-Manuel Miranda will do Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicle justice? Will Castle Rock will pay homage to Stephen King's work in a way that The Dark Tower couldn't? Let us know in the comments.

Ta-Nehisi Coates Writing Captain America’s New Comic

Journalist, author, and Black Panther comics writer Ta-Nehisi Coates will write a new Captain America series for Marvel Comics.

Coates made the announcement in an essay for The Atlantic, in which he addresses why he's decided to write stories about Steve Rogers, the character's origins, and just how important Captain America has been to the world.

"Rogers’s transformation into Captain America is underwritten by the military," Coates said. "But, perhaps haunted by his own roots in powerlessness, he is a dissident just as likely to be feuding with his superiors in civilian and military governance as he is to be fighting with the supervillain Red Skull."

Oscars: 16 Best Pictures That Never Won Best Picture

In the tapestry of Best Picture winners, there are more than a few films that are sorely – and often shockingly – missing. These are the movies that a lot of people assume won Best Picture, but in fact, never did. Oftentimes, it was a lesser picture (at least in retrospect) that took home the Academy’s highest honor. For example, The King’s Speech taking the prize over The Social Network. Or La La Land oh so briefly being an Oscar winner before it was revealed Moonlight had actually won.

Whether it was an upset or an oversight, we thought it’d be fun, with Oscar Sunday fast approaching, to list off some of the films commonly mistaken as Best Pictures, even though they never got the recognition from the Academy.

Smith shared what transpired on Sunday night via a Facebook video, revealing he didn't realize he was experiencing a heart attack after a stand-up show.

"I started feeling nauseous, and I tried to lay down on the floor, and when I was laying down on the floor, I wound up getting ill, like threw up but mostly bile,” Smith said. “I just thought I got some bad milk. That was it. I started feeling pressure on my chest, but not like, ‘There’s an elephant on my chest,’ I just couldn’t catch my breath. Honestly, I was never really in pain.”

How Much Will Wreck-It Ralph 2 Poke Fun at Disney?

The new trailer for Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 reveals that protagonists Wreck-It Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly) and Vanellope Von Schweetz (voiced by Sarah Silverman) venture even further beyond the world they know than they did in the 2012 original, this time journeying into the Internet itself.

As Rich Moore explained to me during a recent phone interview with him and his fellow director Phil Johnston (both veterans of the first film), the filmmakers' intention for the Disney Animation sequel was to test the friendship between Ralph and Vanellope by thrusting them out of the familiarity of the old world into the unpredictability of a wild, new one.
