Magic: The Gathering Creator’s New Game Will Sell Billions of Unique Decks
On Wednesday at Gen Con 2018, Fantasy Flight Games revealed the newest card game from legendary Magic: The Gathering creator Richard Garfield, KeyForge.
Similar to Magic, KeyForge is a 1v1 competitive card game, but instead of using the traditional ‘Trading Card Game’ format where you build a deck out of randomized booster packs, or the ‘Living Card Game’ format where you get all of the cards outright and then buy full expansion sets later, KeyForge will use an entirely new format called a ‘Unique Deck Game’.
What that means is that players will buy a premade 36-card deck that is a completely unique combination of cards from the game. No other deck in the world will be exactly like it, and it can’t be altered or customized in any way, even having its own unique card back and name to distinguish the cards in it.
Infinity War: Why Thor Didn’t Take the Headshot
In the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War’s theatrical release, many fans were blaming Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), whose actions interfered with the Avengers trying to remove the Infinity Gauntlet, for Thanos's survival and victory but blame could be laid at another hero’s feet, Thor (Chris Hemsworth).
Shortly after Thanos obtains all six Infinity Stones, Thor emerges from the heavens with his powerful axe Stormbreaker, which strikes Thanos in the chest, not the head, a decision that ultimately resulted in half of all life being snapped out of existence. Writer Christopher Markus revealed on the Avengers: Infinity War commentary track that Thor's decision was fueled by revenge, while adding a humorous anecdote about when this scene was shot.
World of Warcraft’s Pre-Battle for Azeroth In-Game Event Has Fans Divided
Recent developments in World of Warcraft's pre-Battle for Azeroth in-game event, War of the Thorns, have fans divided on the story moving forward into the latest expansion.
In War of the Thorns, the Alliance and Horde clash once again, this time with fan-favorite character Sylvanas leading the Horde. While the two factions have always been morally grey, Sylvanas' most recent actions are solidly in the evil camp.
She was once a High elf, though her soul was taken from her body by the death knight Arthas. After that, she led the undead faction the Forsaken. Now she is in charge of the Horde, set on starting a full-fledged war with the Alliance. Her grizzliest act? Invading Northern Kalimdor and destroying Teldrassil, the World Tree.
Disney Reportedly Unlikely to Rehire James Gunn
Disney is reportedly unlikely to rehire James Gunn as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which may cause the movie to be postponed.
Variety reports Disney won't change its decision to fire Gunn after a series of older offensive tweets from the filmmaker recently surfaced. This is despite the Guardians cast recently issuing an open letter supporting Gunn.
MoviePass CEO Issues Apology, Promises Changes
MoviePass has had a rough go of it as of late, with the movie subscription service suffering widespread outages last week followed by questions about it potentially going out of business. But in a letter to subscribers, CEO Mitch Lowe issued an apology and promised that changes are on the way.
Lowe said his first priority was issuing a personal apology "for the inconsistencies and unreliability" subscribers have had to deal with as of late. He added that he regrets a failure to address these issues sooner but promised that changes were already in place to help MoviePass continue offering its theater-going subscription service.
F’ Batman?! All the Other Times Batman and Robin Broke Up
Batman and Robin may have the single most iconic partnership in the superhero world, but their relationship isn't all sunshine and roses. Take the trailer for the live-action Titans series, for example. When Robin isn't smashing his boot of justice into evil's neck, he's shocking audiences everywhere by saying "F*** Batman!"
That may be a particularly extreme case of Batman and Robin's relationship turning sour, but there's definitely a precedent here. Between his antisocial personality and his habit of letting sidekicks die on the job, Batman has had quite a few nasty breakups over the years. Here are the most memorable cases in DC's comics, TV shows and movies.
Beyond Ep. 553: Is God of War’s Final Easter Egg Satisfying?
BEYOND!
This week on IGN's #1 PlayStation show, host Jonathon Dornbush and panelists Casey DeFritas, Tom Marks, and Mark Medina discuss how they feel about God of War's official final Easter egg being discovered, and the intrepid players' search for it, as well as Spider-Man for PS4 going gold, and whether the concept of a game having "gone gold" holds the same weight it used to.
NES Classic Was June’s Top-Selling Console
June 2018 saw an exceptionally strong period of growth in the industry, with spending across hardware, software and accessory sales up 25 percent from 2017.
According to the June 2018 NPD report, Mario Tennis Aces for the Switch was the best-selling game of June, and God of War for the PS4 continues to sell strong in second place, making it the tenth best-selling game of the last twelve months.
The highest-selling console of the month was not the Switch or PS4, however, it was instead the NES Classic Edition.
"The NES Classic was June 2018's highest unit-selling hardware platform, while the PlayStation 4 led the market in dollar sales. This is the first time a Nintendo Entertainment System console has led in monthly unit sales since NPD tracking began in 1995," NPD's report reads.
Infinity War: Why Thanos Didn’t Make His Move Sooner
While Thanos knew the location of most of the Infinity Stones for some time, he didn't make his move on attaining them all until he finally had a sure way to locate the Soul Stone, according to the filmmaker commentary track on the home release of Avengers: Infinity War.
"The catalyst for the whole movie was when Thanos figured out where the Soul Stone was because he captured Nebula on his ship
and rooted around in her brain and found out that Gamora knew where the Soul Stone was," co-screenwriter Stephen McFeely explained in the commentary track he recorded alongside co-screenwriter Christopher Markus and directors Joe and Anthony Russo.
Joe Russo explained that it's the reason why Thanos had not gone after the Infinity Stones until this point "because the minute he does, the forces of the universe are going to line up against him. If he doesn't know where the Soul Stone is, then what is the point?"
The Best Cloud Backup Service
Note that if you click on one of these links to buy the product, IGN may get a share of the sale. For more, read our Terms of Use.
I recently evaluated all of the biggest cloud backup programs, and based on my extensive hands-on testing I recommend IDrive as the best overall (See IDrive pricing options here). Out of all the software packages I tested it offers the best combination of storage, features, and affordable pricing, making it a stand-out backup program. Of course everyone's backups needs are different, and there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to data security, but for most people IDrive should be more than enough to keep all your files safe without requiring you to dig too deep into your pockets each month.
