Fox Bosses Trust The Simpsons Creators to ‘Handle’ Apu Controversy in Upcoming Seasons
Fox Television Group bosses Dana Walden and Gary Newman weighed in on the ongoing controversy surrounding The Simpsons and the character of Apu at Fox's Television Critics Association summer press tour presentation.
"We have had conversations with
Jim Brooks and his team, and we’ve left it up to them," Walden said, when asked how the show intended to tackle the criticisms leveled against it over the past year. "They’ve treated the show and their characters with so much respect, we trust them to handle it in a way that will be best for their show... I’m not sure yet what they’re going to do, but we thought that should be their decision."
Last season, The Simpsons chose to directly address the concerns raised by Hari Kondabolu's 2017 documentary The Problem With Apu, which explored the cultural impact of the Indian character and how he inadvertently shaped and perpetuated racial stereotypes, featuring interviews with celebrities of South Asian descent who revealed that they had grown up being bullied and mocked because of the way the character was portrayed.

Fox Executive Gives Update on Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot
The recently-announced Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is still a long ways off, according to Fox Television CEO Gary Newman.
While speaking during the 2018 TCA summer press tour, Newman explained the reboot, from Joss Whedon and Monica Owusu-Breen, is still in the early stages of development and doesn't have a script yet.
"There's actually no script to see," Newman said. "But, we've sat down with the creators and had some conversations about it. It's a very exciting prospect. It's still early, we haven't pitched it to any possible licensees yet, and all of that is still to come."
Announced last month, the TV reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will feature a black actress in the titular lead role, made famous by Sarah Michelle Gellar. This new version will be contemporary while also building on the mythology of the original.
MoviePass Says It’s Not Dead Yet
Though MoviePass saw some particularly trying times over the last week, it isn't down for the count.
MoviePass has pushed back against claims that it's dead or even dying, citing unprecedented growth and previous examples of market disruptors as evidence of its staying power.
It claims that MoviePass use made up nearly one-fourth of the box office receipts for the film Blindspotting through the first Tuesday following its release. It also says the film Tag had MoviePass to thank for 13 percent of its opening weekend domestic box office totals.

This Star Wars Game is Getting a Ludicrously Big Super Star Destroyer Figure
One of the largest ships in the Star Wars universe is going miniature… barely. During Fantasy Flight Games’ Gen Con 2018 preview night, the publisher revealed the almost comically-large Super Star Destroyer miniature for its epic space battles game, Star Wars: Armada.
Carrying out a replica of the daunting ship nearly as long as the presenter’s arm, Fantasy Flight explained that this was the largest model the publisher has ever produced.
Take a close-up look at this behemoth in the slideshow below:
For context, a regular ship in Armada is usually only about an inch big, with the larger ships being between six and ten inches long at the very most. The Super Star Destroyer looks to be maybe about two feet long.

Apple hits $1 trillion in market value
Apple's financial success continues to grow as it hit a $1 trillion market cap this morning.
As reported by CNBC, Apple's stock value rose almost 3 percent after an exceptionally strong third-quarter earnings report issued earlier this week. Apple stock rose past $207 per share briefly, but has since dropped into the $206 range. With an outstanding share count of 4,829,926,000 this brief price increase managed to push their value into the tredecuple digits.
Apple is the first publicly traded company in the U.S. to reach this record valuation, but Amazon is also on its way to hitting that magic $1 trillion number, as its shares surpassed $900,000,000,000 in value last month.
BioWare Still Working on Mass Effect and Dragon Age Alongside Anthem
BioWare has confirmed that while the team is hard at work on the upcoming Anthem, there are still teams working on the beloved franchises of Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
In BioWare's Mid-Summer Update, general manager Casey Hudson stated, "we hear loud and clear the interest in BioWare doing more Dragon Age and Mass Effect, so rest assured that we have some teams hidden away working on some secret stuff that I think you'll really like - we're just not ready to talk about any of it for a little while."
This should lend some hope to fans of Mass Effect series, which last year was said to be put on hold following the launch of Mass Effect: Andromeda.
