While speaking to press after a TCA panel, per SlashFilm, Reeves said The Batman will tell a "very personal" and "defining" story about the titular superhero instead of being an origin movie.

"We are definitely not doing Year One," Reeves said. "It’s just exciting to be focused very specifically on a tale that is defining for him and very personal to him.”

Sumo Managing Director Paul Porter said as much in a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz. A fan of the original Crackdown, Porter also said he's keen to avoid Crackdown 2's failings.

"My experience of Crackdown is probably similar to a lot of other people's," he said. "I played the first one to death – played it in co-op, collected all the orbs. After a couple of hours of playing Crackdown 2 I wanted to throw my controller at the TV, and I was really quite sad. That's definitely not the route that's been taken with Crackdown 3."

Ever since being introduced in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and returning in last year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) has become one of the MCU’s most beloved characters. After Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters, though, his popularity took a hit, as many fans blamed him for his actions that enabled Thanos (Josh Brolin) to complete his mission. On the commentary track for Avengers: Infinity War, director Joe Russo commented on how the fans reacted to Star-Lord’s emotional outburst that, essentially, put half the universe's population at risk.

“A lot of fans were upset with Star-Lord’s choice in this movie. He made an emotional decision. It’s a very human mistake, and I think what’s interesting about narrative is you learn to view things from the point-of-view of different people, different characters. You learn things about life. Thor makes an equally complicated decision.”
