Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden Release Date Announced

Funcom has announced that Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden will be released for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on December 4.

Mutant Year Zero comes from Swedish developer The Bearded Ladies, and earlier this year we described it as “real-time exploration and XCOM-inspired combat.” Funcom describes one of Mutant Year Zero’s heroes as a “crossbow-wielding, bipedal, and unusually sassy duck,” which is surely a first for video game protagonists.

You can see more of Mutant Year Zero later this week on IGN Live from Gamescom 2018, which will be stream beginning today (August 21) at 3:00PM CEST / 6:00AM PT, and keep up with everything in our Gamescom 2018 hub.

If You PC Game at Full HD, You’ll Want One of These Gaming Monitors

1080p 144Hz monitors might seem like a super-specific product category, but they're one of the most popular types of gaming monitors out there. Firstly, a 144Hz refresh rate is good for a smoother gameplay experience, allowing you to see more frames of action unfold than your traditional 60Hz monitor or television can. But at the same time, they don't sacrifice image quality for speed like 240Hz monitors do.

Secondly, they're a great way to save on PC gaming, especially for beginners. If you put aside your dreams of owning a 1440p or 4K gaming monitor, you can get by with an affordable mid-range graphics card like the Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti or Nvidia GTX 1660, which are capable of 100+ fps at 1080p Ultra. Paired with a GPU with adaptive frame rate technology a la Nvidia’s G-Sync or AMD’s FreeSync, you can run games at 144 frames per second for buttery smooth, tear-free action.

In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Destruction Becomes Lara’s Closest Companion

In the latest demo of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, shown behind closed doors at Gamescom 2018, Lara is faced with yet another bout of destruction as a city faces the wrath of the encroaching apocalypse. This iteration of Tomb Raider shows Lara at the end of her origin story, and while the previous two games explored her ability to survive and what it means to be a Croft, Shadow is looking to explore what it means for Lara to be a Tomb Raider and the responsibility that comes with it.

At this point, we’ve seen how Lara’s new adventure brings a bigger focus on puzzles and exploration and how she essentially causes an apocalypse and alienates herself in a darker story, but also how the hubs and gameplay feel very familiar to the previous Tomb Raider reboot games. This hands-off Gamescom gameplay, though short, shows off some more combat and yet another crumbling city.
