A 15-Minute VR Experience That Left Me With Tears

On the night of September 3, 1943, a Lancaster bomber dubbed F for Freddie took off from Langar airfield in Nottinghamshire, bound for Berlin. Inside was its seven-man crew, drawn from England, Scotland, and as far away as Australia, which was not out of the ordinary.

What was out of the ordinary was that there were also two passengers aboard: Welsh BBC reporter Wynford Vaughan-Thomas and his sound engineer, Reg Pidsley. Vaughan-Thomas’ eye witness account of the mission, recorded in the belly of the plane by Pidsley and broadcast on UK radio the following evening after their successful return (which was never guaranteed), is one of the most remarkable pieces of wartime journalism I’ve encountered.

Why Carnage Wasn’t the Villain of the Venom Movie

Warning! major SPOILERS ahead for Venom! You've been warned!

The end credits scene of Venom introduces serial killer Cletus Kasady, played by Woody Harrelson, in a clear set-up for the introduction of the villain Carnage in a potential sequel.

Director Ruben Fleischer recently sat down for a one-on-one spoiler chat with IGN wherein he discussed the casting of Harrelson and his reasons for why Carnage wasn't used as the villain of the first Venom movie.

The mid-credits scene shows Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) back in action as a working reporter after defeating the Life Foundation. He visits San Quentin State Prison to interview an inmate, an interview requested by the killer himself.

Venom Ending and Credits Scenes Explained

Venom is now out in theaters so we're going to go into full SPOILERS in dissecting what happens at the end of Venom!

The ending of Venom, and particularly its mid-credits scene featuring Carnage/Cletus Kasady, sets up where Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and his symbiote “buddy” might be headed in a sequel should this Sony-Marvel collaboration prove a box office success.

Let’s breakdown what happens!

ENDING

Venom destroys Carlton Drake, the symbiote Riot, and the Life Foundation’s spaceship, and thus saves the world, but then it appears as if the Venom symbiote itself burns up in the explosion. It even says goodbye to Eddie as the latter falls into the water. But then some time passes and, as he sits on the stoop of his ex-fiancee Anne Weying’s home, Eddie hears Venom’s voice in his head again. He’s not surprised by it so that suggests he knows Venom’s been there. We’re not quite sure why Venom said goodbye to Eddie then if they weren’t truly separated. Guess we’ll chalk it up to a (cheap) dramatic misdirect.

Venom Easter Eggs, Cameos and References

Unlike a lot of comic book movies these days, Venom, now in theaters, is surprisingly light on Easter eggs. But those that were included definitely provided a good deal of fan service and set up for potential sequels.

So -- SPOILER WARNING -- let’s break down the Easter eggs, cameos and references that were in Venom, starting with the biggest one of all …

Carnage/Cletus Kasady

The mid-credits scene shows Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) back in action as a working reporter after defeating the Life Foundation. He visits San Quentin State Prison to interview an inmate, an interview requested by the killer himself.

There, inside a cell within the cell, is the dangerous and deranged Cletus Kasady, portrayed by Woody Harrelson, who wears a curly red wig in a nod to his character’s look in the Marvel comics. Cletus has written “Welcome Eddie” in his own blood on the wall.

Chris Evans may be saying goodbye to Captain America, but he's saying hello to The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson.

Johnson also wrote the script, and will make the movie before he moves onto a new trilogy in the Star Wars trilogy. In a tweet today, Evans suggested he might be hanging up shield now that he's wrapped filming on Avengers 4.

Venom’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed

Rotten Tomatoes has revealed the aggregated score for Tom Hardy's new Venom film.

The newest in Sony's run of comic-based movies did not fare well on the Tomatometer, currently only scoring a measly 28%, though this, of course, could change as more reviews come in.

This rotten score averages out at 4.4 out of 10 across the 109 reviews currently counted and sits pretty well in line with our review.

When it comes to not-so-well-received superhero movies, Venom shares its Rotten Tomatoes score with 2016's Suicide Squad - which also puts it just one point ahead of Batman v Superman from the same year.
