Daredevil Season 3, Episode 12: “One Last Shot” Review

"I hurt people. My pride hurt people. And I need to make that right again."
Here we are at the penultimate episode of Daredevil Season 3 - perhaps even the penultimate episode of Daredevil as a series, if Netflix's recent Marvel show cancelations are meant to signal something dire - and... well, things don't quite work out for our heroes.
Daredevil Season 3, Episode 11: “Reunion” Review
Warning: The following contains spoilers for Daredevil Season 3, Episode 11. If you need a refresher on where we left off, check out our review of Season 3, episode 10.
"I know who you are, Mr. Fisk. You’re a wolf too."
As we head into the home stretch of Season 3, "Reunion" reforms and re-galvanizes the show's core trio - Matt, Karen, and Foggy - while also finding moments of redemption for Sister Maggie and Agent Nadeem. It's a gripping boxed-in/search-and-rescue story - not unlike Season 1's "Condemned" - that places Matt and Karen in a pressure cooker while restoring Fisk to the mountain top.
Daredevil: Season 3, Episode 10: “Karen” Review
Warning: The following contains spoilers for Daredevil Season 3, Episode 10. If you need a refresher on where we left off, check out our review of Season 3, episode 9.
"Mom lost again."
Yes, "Karen" represents a pause in the story, somewhat, for about two-thirds of this episode, but that time is spent in giant flashback to Karen's tragic past and not our present day characters pacing, blabbing relative dialogue, or hemming and hawing around actual story.
Boy, it's about time this series got around to illuminating certain aspects about Karen. Usually all we get are Matt-centric trips down memory lane. In fact, even with all the mentions of her brother this season, I still didn't expect this much focus on her. Yes, I thought the brother stuff would resurface in a big way, but I didn't figure we'd actually devote this much time and effort to Karen's dark past.
Daredevil Season 3, Episode 9: “Revelations” Review
Warning: The following contains spoilers for Daredevil Season 3, Episode 9. If you need a refresher on where we left off, check out our review of Season 3, episode 8.
"You chose to hide the one thing that could have changed everything for me."
Once again, I have to say, I'm very pleasantly surprised at how increasingly great these middle chapters are. Even Season 1, the last season with full-tilt Fisk, didn't have the strongest midsection. These episodes are increasingly great, in fact. As in, Episode 8 is better than 7. Now Episode 9 stands taller than 8. Sure, it wraps up with the most cliffhanger-y ending so far, and that deflates the tires a touch, but "Revelations" is still really powerful all the way through. Most importantly, it makes me care about Nadeem.

Marvel Isn’t Even Pretending That the End of Infinity War Mattered
SPOILER WARNING: We’re talking extensively about the end of Avengers: Infinity War here. If you haven’t seen it, get out while you still can.
Let’s get one thing out of the way: No one believes the end of Infinity War will stick. With a snap of his fingers, Thanos deleted half of all life in the universe and billions of dollars of profit from potential sequels, spin-offs, and merchandise. After that snap, pretty much everyone in the theater went “Oh, so Avengers 4 is about them undoing that.”
We all know it’s coming. This isn’t some great revelation. But while that’s about as safe a bet as saying “Venom won’t be in it,” it still feels incredibly strange to see Marvel, the studio who made the bold choice to end Infinity War this way, not even trying to pretend like that ending mattered.
