Ark: Survival Evolved: New Expansion Announced

Ark: Survival Evolved only came out of Early Access and into full release just over a week ago, but it's already lining up an expansion, set to arrive sometime next month.

As reported over on VideoGamer, "Aberration", the latest expansion for the action-adventure survival game, features a damaged Ark which has lost its internal atmosphere. In an underground setting, the new content will see players battling radioactive sunlight and a new enemy in the form of the Nameless - a violent creature that appears to shy away from the light.

There's also the addition of 50 extra craftable items, ranging from hazmat suits to rail guns, for players who are looking for additional value from another expansion to the recently-launched game.

Lego: 1.400 Jobs to Go Following Drop in Sales

Danish toymaker Lego has announced that it's cutting 1,400 jobs globally by the end of this year, following its first drop in sales since 2004.

The Guardian reports that the company - which celebrated its 85th anniversary last month - has seen revenue fall 6% (down to 14.9bn Danish krone, or £1.8bn), with net profit down 3%, following weaker demand from its established bases in the USA and parts of Europe.

Describing the job losses as a "reset button" and admitting that the company has become "too complex" to support global growth, the company's goal is to "reach more children" in Europe and the United States, as well as capitalising on their recent double-digit growth in China. The plan is to achieve this by utilising a "smaller and "less complex" organisation and "simplify" the business model, the first steps of which are the job losses.

Chucklefish CEO Teases “Stardew Valley Meets Harry Potter”

Finn Brice, CEO of Chucklefish (publishers of Stardew Valley) has posted a tweet that teases the company's next home-grown title:

Not much is known about the title as of yet, although Brice has alluded to an upcoming project in the past which he characterised as being "Stardew Valley meets Harry Potter". It's important to note that by "Harry Potter", he's referring to the idea of witches and wizards attending a magical school, rather than indicating any formal crossover between the two franchises (although yes please let's go).

Call of Duty: More Historical Settings Teased

Activision's CEO has hinted that Call of Duty may stick with "historical" games beyond WW2, and said that the series may have stuck with future settings for too long.

Although the series' earliest games kept their feet firmly in the realms of the Second World War, Activision's flagship shooter series has, in recent years, become ever more expansive with its settings. Last year's release, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, took the battle to space for the first time, and the new direction prompted mixed reaction from fans of the series - in particular, the initial reveal was divisive and led to Eric Hirshberg, Activision's CEO, releasing a statement of defense.

90% of Gearbox Working on a Game That’s Probably Borderlands 3

The majority of Gearbox is working on a game that's not necessarily - but is almost certainly - Borderlands 3.

Speaking at a PAX West panel (as reported by PCGamesN), Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford explained that 90% of Gearbox's development team is “working on the thing I think most of you guys want us to be working on.”

It seems pretty clear that that's a new Borderlands game - not least because Pitchford has previously shown off a tech test of the engine that will power the next game in the shoot 'n' loot series.

Why Final Fantasy 12 is More Relevant Than Ever

The art of ruling. It’s as timeless a human pursuit as any, though one that continues to go strangely, even willfully unnoticed by the majority of those who are ruled. Kings and queens have not changed. They simply update their presentation and their titles through the ages so as to appear less imperious. Crowns for lapel pins, princes for presidents. The reality is, of course, that We The People give them that power. By looking up at them, by paying attention to them. By listening, and thereby lending credence to their obvious lies, simply because they have come to lead.

“The concepts that became the core pillars of the storyline in Final Fantasy XII were: ‘What is duty?’ and ‘What is the real meaning of freedom?’” says Hiroaki Kato. He’s the project manager on Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, the heavily re-imagined 2017 re-release of the 2006 original. He was the project manager on that as well. For him, the experience has definitely been dutiful, if not exactly freeing.

Final Fantasy Modding Could be Cut If There Are Too Many Adult Mods

Final Fantasy XV is going to have mod support on PC, but its director is wary that mods might get too...porny.

Speaking to PC Gamer at PAX West, Hajime Tabata gave his rationale behind including mod support. “Traditionally Final Fantasy has a bit of an image that everyone has the exact same experience and shares that experience with everyone that plays the game," Tabata said. "With Final Fantasy XV, we went in a slightly different direction. Right from the start, the way the whole game is structured and created gives each individual player their own individual and unique FF15 journey. I certainly think the modding community is going to resonate with that and the idea that you can change it any way they want is exciting.”

Vladimir Putin: World Leader in A.I. “Will Become the Ruler of the World”

Russian president Vladimir Putin has entered the global artificial intelligence development race.

The Verge reports that Putin claims “

rtificial intelligence is the future, not only for Russia, but for all humankind,” but he also warns that “

t comes with colossal opportunities, but also threats that are difficult to predict. Whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world.”

While developments in AI will lead to growth and change in many industries – including defeating pro gamers – it is certain that the technology will also contribute to advancements in warfare. So much so that many technology leaders including Elon Musk petitioned the United Nations for new regulations on the development of AI weapons calling it the "third revolution in warfare".
