No Doctor Who Movie Any Time Soon

It was Doctor Who Day at the Television Critics Association’s press tour today, with the team behind the much-loved BBC series teasing the upcoming Season 9, which sees the return of Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor for his second year in the TARDIS alongside companion Clara (Jenna Coleman). Minor spoilers for the new season follow.

Perhaps the most intriguing question about Season 9 is the matter of who Maisie Williams will be playing. The Game of Thrones actress is set to make an appearance when the show returns in the fall, and many fans have been speculating that Williams could be playing an important figure from the Doctor’s past.

“One thing I think is worth saying because it keeps coming up as an issue: She is not playing a returning character,” said showrunner Steven Moffat. “She is a brand new character. She's not someone from the Doctor's past -- unless I'm lying. … It's a significant role. We are not throwing her away. You know, we are not just getting the star value and doing nothing with it. It's a great part, and she's terrific in it. But I would say it will develop in unexpected ways.”

When You Can See Both New Deadpool Trailers

We now know when you can watch a non-shakycam version of the Deadpool trailer.

In fact, you'll have two options available. Next Tuesday, August 4, the red-band trailer will premiere on TBS' Conan. And a more family-friendly green-band trailer will be shown with the U.S. theatrical release of Fantastic Four, which is set for August 7.

The red-band trailer is likely to be a more accurate picture of the film's content, seeing as our look at Comic-Con concluded it was making liberal use of its R-rating. Our look at the time included plenty of profanity, blood, and at least one exploding head. Ryan Reynolds, who portrays the Merc with the Mouth, had previously promised "graphic, expertly lit French Unicorn sex."
