Shyamalan: Unbreakable 2 Wouldn’t Be a ‘Traditional’ Sequel
At San Diego Comic-Con this year, writer/director M. Night Shyamalan discussed the possibility of an Unbreakable 2.
When asked about the potential of making a sequel to Unbreakable, Shyamalan said, “I don’t want to do a traditional second movie. That turns me off....That turns me off of making movies. It has to be a completely original take, something unexpected.”
When asked to clarify whether he wanted to do an Unbreakable sequel, Shyamalan said, “It’s a complicated answer.”
Shyamalan explained the arc of his career is reflected in his kids. When they were infants, he made films for himself. As they grew older, he began making films for them -- such as The Last Airbender. Now that they're teenagers, he's making "edgier" films again, things that could interest or scare his teenagers.
New Superman Comic From Chronicle Writer Max Landis
DC had more to reveal about the future of the Superman franchise at SDCC today, including two new Superman mini-series from some big-name creators.
New Superman Comic Features Lois, Clark and Son
First, Neal Adams will be writing and drawing a six-issue series called Coming of the Supermen. The project will be similar to Adams' recent Batman: Odyssey in that it's a standalone book set outside current DC continuity. Coming of the Superman pits the Man of Steel against Darkseid and Kalibak. Complicating matters is the emergence of three new heroes from the bottle city of Kandor (now rechristened New Krypton), who are forced to join forces with Lex Luthor to oppose Darkseid.
Sansa Actress on Controversial Game of Thrones Scene
Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 5. Trigger warning: sexual abuse
At a San Diego Comic-Con panel today, Game of Thrones' star Sophie Turner discussed Season 5's stunning sexual abuse of Sansa Stark.
"Sansa is still strong despite what she's been through," Turner said of her character's survival of the controversial rape scene. "She is not to blame for any of that." Turner joked, "I don't know why they focused on Theon during that scene because I was giving a great performance."
She continued, "Sansa has developed skills from Maergery and Cersei and other folks and is still just as strong as ever. Over this whole series she has been getting by without doing anything radical, because she knows it's dangerous for her. She could die. And that is certainly true with the Ramseys. She didn't fight. She could have, but she chose not to. She is one of those characters who does her scheming in her mind rather than openly."
Avengers #0 Will Introduce All-New, All-Different Marvel
Marvel shed a bit more light on what's to come in the post-Secret Wars Marvel Universe at their "All-New, All-Different Avengers" panel at SDCC today. The big takeway from the panel is that fans can look forward to an oversized primer issue called Avengers #0 that will set the stage for the various new and relaunched Avengers books in October.
Avengers #0 will contain short stories setting up All-New, All-Different Avengers (written by Mark Waid and drawn by Mahmud Asrar), Squadron Supreme (James Robinson & Leonard Kirk), A-Force (G. Willow Wilson & Victor Ibanez), New Avengers (Al Ewing & Gerardo Sandoval), The Ultimates (Al Ewing & Kenneth Rocafort) and Uncanny Avengers (Gerry Duggan & Ryan Stegman).
Ghostbusters Gets First Official Cast Photo
Today we got our first official look at the Ghostbusters cast decked out in their costumes and gear.
The photo, posted by director Paul Feig on Twitter, depicts Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon wearing the iconic Ghostbusters jumpsuits and proton packs, posing in front of the redesigned ECTO-1.
Falling Skies Bids Farewell to Comic-Con
At the Falling Skies: The Final Farewell Comic-Con panel today, Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Colin Cunningham, and the rest of the cast (save for Will Patton and Maxim Knight) appeared to answer fan questions from loyal viewers.
Wyle also spoke about the times when the show, due to its many different showrunners over the years, felt a bit scattered. "Falling Skies has been atypical, in my opinion, because we've had a lot of different showrunners and leaders over the years and so each time we got a new showrunner the show would take off on a new direction. And so it has changed its tone and it has changed its style a lot. We already knew that we'd come to this final battle scenario that we're in now in Season 5, but the line to get here was not a straight one."
David Tennant Guest Stars in TMNT Season 5
During Nickelodeon's panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the panel announced some guest stars who will appear in the show's fifth season.
TMNT Season 3 premieres on August 2 at 11am PT. Last month, TMNT was renewed for a fourth season, where comedian Seth Green will replace Jason Biggs as the voice of Leonardo. Both Season 4 and 5 will include 20 episodes.
Some of the guest stars are:
- David Tennant (Dr. Who) guest stars as The Fugitoid who was once an alien scientist named Dr. Honeycutt, but after his body was destroyed, his brain was saved and placed into the body of a robot.
- Peter Stormare (Fargo) guest stars as Lord Dregg, an arrogant, insectoid crime lord. When the Turtles incur his wrath, he becomes one of their most dangerous enemies.
Is Firefly Poised for a Comeback?
Firefly's Alan Tudyk thinks Firefly will return. During an interview today during San Diego Comic Con, Tudyk said "personally, I think it will come back."
Series creator Joss Whedon has said in the past Firefly won't be returning, however. Tudyk mentioned during the interview that at the tenth anniversary celebration of Firefly, Whedon said he felt that the show was at the point where it was something that shouldn't be messed with.
Tudyk drew a comparison to The Godfather III.
Firefly was unceremoniously dumped by FOX after just one season. The follow-up movie Serenity managed to wrap up some of the loose ends, but browncoats the world over have longed for an extension to the stories laid out in the cult-classic television show.
AMC: ‘No Plans’ to Combine Walking Dead TV Series
At the Fear the Walking Dead panel today at San Diego Comic-Con, the question was raised as to whether the new cast will ever meet up with the cast of the original Walking Dead show.
“I want to meet Rick,” said Fear star Cliff Curtis. “I’m campaigning to meet Rick Grimes because I have a bromance with the man.”
Executive Producer Dave Erickson, however, isn’t as hopeful about such a team-up.
“There are no plans right now to combine the two series,” said Erickson. “I think
Scott Gimple would kill me if I ever pitched that idea. Geographically it would be tough. There is currently no plan to do it.”
That of course makes perfect sense, since the new show is set on the other side of the country in Los Angeles. Still, you never know what the future holds.

It goes without saying that MTV is not the network many of us remember from our childhoods. They've branched out with their programming, and The Shannara Chronicles is taking the network in a new direction. The adaptation of Terry Brooks's The Elfstones of Shannara means diving into a world of fantasy – one with elves, magic, etc. The series follows a group of three elves who have to fight against demons as a magical tree that kept the demons away starts to die. Cast members Poppy Drayton (Amberle), Ivana Baquero (Eretria), Austin Butler (Wil), Manu Bennett (Allanon), and John Rhys-Davies (Eventine) and executive producers Al Gough, Miles Millar, and Brooks brought the first trailer for the upcoming drama to Comic-Con and shared a little information about the characters and development process.
