Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities Launching in October as a Four-Day Netflix Event

Netflix has announced that Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities will debut as a four-day, double-episode event, starting on October 25.

The streamer unlocked the Cabinet of Curiosities in a first-look teaser, revealing each story's title along with glimpses of footage and behind-the-scenes tidbits from the anthology.

The entire collection will be released over four days during a "Netflix & Chills" Halloween event this October, with two tales from del Toro's new series debuting daily through October 28.

As revealed in the new video, the individual story titles for the eight-part anthology are as follows:

  • Dreams in the Witch House (Directed by Catherine Hardwicke)
  • Graveyard Rats (Directed by Vincenzo Natali)
  • Lot 36 (Directed by Guillermo Navarro)
  • Pickman's Model (Directed by Keith Thomas)
  • The Autopsy (Directed by David Prior)
  • The Murmuring (Directed by Jennifer Kent)
  • The Outside (Directed by Ana Lily Amirpour)
  • The Viewing (Directed by Panos Cosmatos)

"With Cabinet of Curiosities, we set out to showcase the realities existing outside of our normal world: the anomalies and curiosities. We hand-picked and curated a group of stories and storytellers to deliver these tales, whether they come from outer space, supernatural lore, or simply within our minds," del Toro said of the upcoming series. "Just in time for Halloween, each of these eight tales is a fantastical peek inside the cabinet of delights existing underneath the reality we live in."

Netflix previously shared a thorough breakdown of the actors, writers, and directors involved with each episode, featuring stories that range from "macabre to magical, gothic to grotesque or classically creepy." Del Toro has created two original tales for the season (Lot 36 and The Murmuring) while also serving as executive producer, creator, and co-showrunner for the series alongside J. Miles Dale.

Del Toro has had an ongoing relationship with Netflix having produced several animated films aimed at a younger audience. Along with Cabinet of Curiosities, del Toro is also directing a stop-motion Pinocchio movie for Netflix starring Ewan McGregor as the Talking Cricket. That film will be released in December following the release of Disney's own live-action retelling of Pinocchio in September.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Insomniac May Have Scrapped a Multiplayer Mode

Marvel's Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games appeared to once have plans to include a multiplayer mode within the hit 2018 game.

As reported by PC Gamer, Twitter user @dniwetamp found various mentions of multiplayer within the files of Spider-Man's recent PC remaster, though it's unclear at what stage of development this mode was it.

In the tweet (below), the files reference what appears to be a competitive mode where two players, playing as Peter Parker and Miles Morales, would compete to be the "Superior Spider-Man". What's called the "winner message" reads either as "Peter Parker is the Superior Spider-Man" or "Miles Morales is the Superior Spider-Man".

More explicitly, further files listed under a multiplayer menu list Player 1, Player 2, Red Team, Blue Team, Character 1, and Character 2. A cooperative mode is also mentioned, with separate files reading: "If set and in co-op, Character2 will see this text".

Both the original Spider-Man game and the Miles Morales spin-off are purely single-player experiences despite each featuring the pair of Spider-Men, though it'll be interesting to see if multiplayer is also mentioned in the files of the semi-sequel when it comes to PC later this year.

A full sequel is also in development at Insomniac and expected to be released in 2023. Some have wondered whether this code could actually be alluding to that game, which will see Peter and Miles collaborate a little more directly, but no official statement has been made about multiplayer in the sequel.

The original game's PC port released just a few days ago on August 12, meaning further digging into the files will likely continue. The launch has proved successful so far, with Spider-Man becoming the second biggest PlayStation Studios Steam port so far, falling only behind God of War.

To see the remastered web-slinging in action, be sure to watch IGN's performance review of Spider-Man on PC versus PS5, or for those gaming on the game, check out the game running on Steam Deck.

In our 8/10 review of the original PS4 version of Spider-Man, IGN said: "Occasionally stuck in a web of familiar open-world trappings, Insomniac's Spider-Man is still a spectacular adventure."

Samsung’s Gigantic Odyssey Ark Monitor Gets $3500 Price Tag, Release Date

After announcing the product back in January at CES, Samsung has finally shared a release date and price for its massive 55-inch curved gaming monitor: the Odyssey Ark, which will release in early September for a steep retail price of $3,499.99.

The Odyssey Ark features a 16:9 4K panel with a stand that supports pivot, tilt, and rotation. Samsung also confirmed that the Odyssey Ark can be mounted to the wall with a VESA mount.

The monitor also includes four HDMI 2.1 ports, meaning this monitor is great for those that own a PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and/or an Nvidia RTX 30 series graphics card.

In addition to the display, the Odyssey Ark also features a dial that can control various features on the monitor, such as the screen size, ratio, and game settings.

Odyssey Ark also includes some other interesting gaming-focused things you would not expect from a monitor, such as a Neural Quantum Processor Ultra and built-in support for Samsung's Gaming Hub, allowing you to access cloud gaming services, such as Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now.

In my time with the Odyssey Ark, I found that the monitor does the work of three monitors and the 16:9 aspect ratio provides ample opportunities for gaming and multitasking. For more, check out IGN's hands-on preview.

Spider-Man Remastered Is PlayStation Studios’ Second Biggest PC Launch Behind God of War

Spider-Man Remastered's PC release has proved successful for Sony, becoming the second biggest PlayStation Studios Steam launch so far, falling only behind God of War.

As reported by Eurogamer, Spider-Man's release on Steam has outperformed Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone, reaching an all-time peak of 66,436 players according to SteamDB. God of War's PC debut saw an all-time peak of 73,529 players, while Zero Dawn and Days Gone achieved 56,557 and 27,450 respectively.

It's a good sign for PlayStation's move into PC publishing. Sony has recently purchased PC porting specialist Nixxes and established a new PlayStation PC label as part of a push to move the company's much-love exclusives to Steam. The company expects to make $300 million from PC games alone in its next fiscal year.

Following in Spider-Man's footsteps is spin-off title Miles Morales, which is expected to be released on PC later this year.

The Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection may challenge both Spider-Man and God of War when it arrives on PC later this yearthe Uncharted series had sold 41 million copies on PlayStation alone as of 2017.

MultiVersus: Black Adam and Stripe from Gremlins Seemingly Confirmed

A new MultiVersus advert hints at two new additions – Black Adam and Stripe from Gremlins.

The advert, which has been shared across social media, shows off some new artwork for the hit online platform fighter, with DC’s Black Adam and the iconic Stripe from Gremlins appearing as part of the game’s line-up.

To date, neither of these characters has been confirmed by MultiVersus developers.

A recently leaked roster of upcoming characters mentioned both Black Adam and Stripe, which now gives a certain legitimacy to the rest of the list. Black Adam is about to make his big screen debut in the upcoming solo film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the titular DC antihero.

Meanwhile, Stripe was the main antagonist from the first Gremlins movie – originally a cuddly mogwai who was spawned from Gizmo after the creature was accidentally splashed with water. After eating food after midnight, Stripe and his band of murderous mogwai turn into Gremlins. There’s no sign of Gizmo in the ad, but he was mentioned in the leaked roster.

Black Adam and Stripe are just the latest additions to MultiVersus, which officially launches its first season today with the addition of Morty to the line-up coming later this week. After the season was delayed, it looks as though MultiVersus will be drip-feeding new content throughout the season, so we could see Black Adam and Stripe appear in the coming weeks.

New Avatar: The Last Airbender Console Game Seemingly Leaks

A new Avatar: The Last Airbender console game called Quest for Balance is seemingly in development, after various versions of it appeared on Amazon Japan listings.

As reported by Nintendo Everything, a Nintendo Switch version of the game has been listed on the website with a November 8 release date. Listings for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One versions can also be found, implying that Quest for Balance will be a console game released across most platforms.

The listings on Amazon Japan are for an imported English version, meaning the game will seemingly be released with a North American audience in mind, and while storefront release dates are subject to change, November 8 is an unusually specific date for a placeholder.

Quest for Balance is apparently being published by Game Mill Entertainment, the company behind several Nickelodeon tie-in games such as Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and Nickelodeon Kart Racers. Given that Avatar: The Last Airbender is a Nickelodeon property, it would certainly make sense that it would be working on the title.

Game Mill is a self-professed publisher of 'casual games', so don't expect this to be a wildly ambitious affair. The studio's other games include Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues, American Ninja Warrior Challenge, and Nerf: Legends, a first person shooter that IGN said was "painful" in our 2/10 review.

Nothing else has been announced about Quest for Balance, with more information likely coming when (and if) the game is officially announced. Another Avatar: The Last Airbender game called Avatar: Generations was announced for mobile just last week, an open world RPG with squad based battles taking place across different generations of the Avatar world.
