Introducing Mortal Kombat’s First Gay Character

Mortal Kombat’s first gay male character may be new playable Mortal Kombat X character Kung Jin, according to an interpretation of flashback scenes exploring the character’s past.

Kung Jin is a member of the Special Forces Unit and descendant of series regular Kung Lao. One particular flashback scene in Chapter 4 features Raiden urging Kung Jin to join the Shaolin Monks. “I can't... They won't accept,” Kung Jin says, with Raiden responding. “They care only of what is in your heart, not whom your heart desires.”

NetherRealm cinematic director Dominic Cianciolo confirmed the theories, tweeting “I see people are picking up on the subtle exposition contained in Kung Jin's flashback. Glad we have observant fans!”

Heartbreaking Images from Unfinished Clone Wars Episodes

The panel for Star Wars: The Clone Wars at Star Wars Celebration today gave the audience mixed emotions. On one hand, it was very cool to see a ton of art and early animation for many of the unfinished episodes that were in the works when the show got cancelled. On the other hand, it was a reminder of how much more Clone Wars we could have gotten, and regret over not being able to see these episodes in their completed form.

Joking that they hoped they didn't get in trouble for it, Dave Filoni and Pablo Hidalgo showed us a lot, including very early sketches and more formal character design sheets. Through these images, and with Filoni and Hidalgo explaining what we were seeing, we got an idea of what some of the aborted storylines for the show were.

You Can Fly on This R2-D2 Dreamliner Aircraft This Year

Japan’s All Nippon Airways and Walt Disney partnering up to transform one of the airline’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners into Star Wars’ R2-D2.

Revealed during the Star Wars Celebration event in California today, the R2-D2 aircraft will begin flying on international routes this northern hemisphere’s Autumn. ANA is yet to determine the flights and routes for the five-year “Star Wars Project,” so any of the 37 cities the airline caters to could hit the jackpot at this stage.

"We’re excited to be involved in this collaboration with ANA, one of the world's leading 5-star airlines,” Kayleen Walters, vice president of marketing for Lucasfilm Ltd, said in a statement. “We’re proud of the innovative R2-D2 design, and we look forward to witnessing the first-ever flight of a passenger aircraft featuring a Star Wars character. We’re confident that Star Wars fans around the world will absolutely love this design."

Spot All The Characters In Bethesda’s E3 Invite

The invitations to Bethesda's E3 conference went out today, and it's full of references that might hint at the content of the inaugural event. Maybe.

The invite features a bunch of Bethesda characters seated in the stalls of the Dolby theatre. From what we can ascertain so far, it features The Evil Within's Sebastian, Doom's Cyberdemon, Wolfenstein's B.J. Blazkowicz, a Tall Boy from Dishonored, a Panzerhund from Wolfenstein...and a bunch of characters from The Elder Scrolls Online. The image is low-res and we'll admit our eyesight isn't the greatest - can you help us fill in the gaps?

Somebody Just Finished Bloodborne With a Rock Band Guitar Controller

Bloodborne, like From Software’s Souls games before it, may be notorious for its difficulty but that hasn’t stopped one gamer from completing the entire thing with a Rock Band guitar peripheral.

Twitch streamer ‘bearzly’, who describes himself as “a huge fan of the Souls series” (and notes on his Twitch page he’s completed a number of challenge runs of Darks Souls in the past “using terrible controllers”), completed a full run of Bloodborne with the controls mapped to his Xbox 360 Rock Band 1 faux Fender Stratocaster.

This Week in the Nintendo eShop

It's a weird week when the marquee title is a little appreciated Nintendo 64 game from 1999. That's right, you can now play Donkey Kong 64 on your Wii U, if you're so inclined. You can also download the pair of new StreetPass games on 3DS. If you want something a little more original, the 3DS puzzle game Dooors seems intriguing. Of course, you can't go wrong with the latest Sega 3D classic, which is a juiced-up version of Fantasy Zone II.

Donkey Kong 64 ($9.99)

So Donkey Kong 64 is finally here, performing for you. If you know the words, you can join in, too. Put your hands together (if you want to clap) as we take you through this 1999 Rare-developed adventure. D.K. Donkey Kong. He's the leader of the bunch, you know him well. He's finally back on the Virtual Console to kick some tail. His coconut gun can fire in spurts; if he shoots ya, it's gonna hurt. He's bigger, faster, and stronger, too. He's the first member of the DK Crew.

Star Wars: Is Finn a Jedi?

Concept art on the show floor at Star Wars Celebration appears to reveal a startling detail about Finn, a new character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. A lightsaber is clearly visible in a holder on his jacket.

Finn, (portrayed by John Boyega) has appeared in both Star Wars teaser trailers wearing stormtrooper armor. Earlier today, a panel at Celebration confirmed that Finn is a stormtrooper for at least some portion of the story. However, Finn is also depicted in the second trailer wearing civilian-style clothes alongside Daisy Ridley's character Rey and droid BB-8. His on-screen costume closely matches both the concept art and a costume on display at Celebration, which clearly includes the same saber holder straps.
