Old-school Cartridges Are Making a Comeback via Smartphones
Ever wanted to use GBA-style cartridges on your mobile devices? If so, this may be of interest to you.
At this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Japanese startup company Beatrobo showed off Pico Cassette, a small cartridge which plugs directly into a mobile device’s headphone jack to unlock games.
As detailed by The Verge, the carts don’t actually contain games in the same way old-school cartridges did. Instead, they emit an inaudible sound that unlocks its respective app for play on your device, bringing a new meaning to the term “Plug and play.”
Currently, the Pico Cassette is but a proof of concept. However, Beatrobo is actively looking to land a content partnership to bring more developers on-board. Should that be successful, the startup plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign with the hopes of bringing the Pico Cassette to market.
Apple Wants to Release an Electric Car by 2019
Apple is working on an electric vehicle, and it's aiming for a 2019 release.
This news comes via the Wall Street Journal, who report that the 600 member group in charge of the electric vehicle section of the company has been given permission to triple its staff.
Reports on the Apple electric car surfaced all the way back in February, but a proposed release date and the electric vehicle division growing seem to have confirmed the rumors.
It is suggested that 2019 may be an optimistic date, however. “It isn’t uncommon for a project of this size and complexity to miss ship-date deadlines,” said WSJ. “People familiar with the project said there is skepticism within the team that the 2019 target is achievable.”

Batman’s Endgame arc saw the Joker return (again) and spread terror throughout Gotham City with (yet another) Joker virus, which saw the Bat-family spring into action to defend it. As far as tie-ins go, the Endgame ones were quite good, so we’re glad to see them collected into this hardcover along with the back-up stories that appeared in the Batman series. The back-ups are a nice collection of shorts that help create the eerie ambiance of the Joker’s supposed new status quo.
P.T.-Like Horror Game Allison Road Launches Kickstarter
Fans of Konami's now-dead Silent Hills teaser P.T. may be interested in the latest horror game to launch a Kickstarter campaign.
Called Allison Road, this narrative-driven horror game has been compared to P.T. on several occasions, likely due to it being set in a house that incrementally descends into a hellscape as the player explores the environment.
Originally a small project created by developer Chris Kesler, Allison Road gained popularity after he posted a small prototype online around the same time as Silent Hills' cancellation. Due to its positive reception, Kesler brought on a team of developers, started a studio called Lilith Ltd., and began working to make the game into a bigger project.
