Loot Crate Files For Bankruptcy After Layoffs

Loot Crate, the self-proclaimed "world leader in fan-subscription boxes," has filed for bankruptcy following reports of layoffs at the company.

The announcement came via an overnight press release just days after the company reportedly laid off dozens of employees, according to a report from the LA Times, apparently without severance of any kind. This comes after the company had already shuttered a warehouse and laid off almost 150 workers this past May, but none of that stopped LootCrate's CEO Chris Davies from saying "We are very pleased with our progress from an operational efficiency standpoint," continuing that "The company still faces liquidity issues."

First Edition Pokemon Card Set Sells for Over $100,000

You know that dusty box of old Pokemon cards you have in your parent’s basement that you plan on one day cashing in for an insane amount of money? Well here's a little motivation to actually go check how much they're worth: someone just sold a mint condition collection for a cool $107,010.

Last weekend a complete set of 103 first-edition Base Set Pokemon cards were sold on Goldin Auctions for six figures. And yes, that includes the coveted first edition holographic Charizard.

What sets this collection apart from the one in your dinged up middle school binder is how they were kept in perfect condition. Every card was graded to be in “Gem Mint 10” condition, according to TMZ, who first reported on this insane Pokemon auction sale. It’s extremely rare for a card to receive a perfect Gem Mint rating because even fresh out of the booster pack a card can have minor defects that diminish the quality, like uneven color printing or little white chips on the border. So it is truly a remarkable feat to have the entire collection of the first English Pokemon set from all the way back in 1999 still in pristine condition.

We Debate Whether the Next Resident Evil Game Should Be a Sequel or Remake

Capcom has secretly been inviting fans across Japan and the US to test an unannounced Resident Evil game. We took this opportunity to speculate on what this new Resident Evil game could be. And whether it’d be better for Capcom to be working on a new game like Resident Evil 8, or continue on the Resident Evil Remake path.

Enter the Survival Horror.

John Borba: Resident Evil is a series that has wandered quite a bit over the years, both in the narrative and in the core mechanics of the game. That said, the recent Resident Evil 2 remake took some incredible steps in a direction that returns the series to form, while providing some incredible and welcome updates that made for one of the best games of 2019 so far.

No Man’s Sky Players Create a Cyberpunk-Themed Base and It’s Stunning

Ever since Hello Games added building tools to No Man’s Sky, the potential had me excited. The Cyberpunk-themed Replicant City is definitely one of the most impressive I’ve seen so far. Check out the city in action in the video at the top of this page.

Created by just four people over about 20 hours, the neon-filled canyon seems almost technically impossible. When asked about how some of these objects were placed in the way that they are, builder ERBurroughs told me:

“The technique allows placement of parts that may not be typically placed on a ceiling, let’s say, by forcing items in the build menu to either the right or left with a timed button press. Other glitch techniques require multiple player to place parts at the same time, effectively putting two things in one spot. Glitch builders have found items are definitely placed in the build menu in a certain order to take advantage of this “trick”. Items that rotate are next to items that do not, so you can rotate the part you use to glitch, then place the part you wanted to l, in the correct orientation. Other things we have learned while building is that as you collect blue prints, what you can glitch into place will change. Our last build required a player that did not have the Nautilon (in game submarine) in their menu to give them access to a part my 1200 hour save just can’t glitch.”

Haunting of Hill House Creator Teases ‘Much Scarier’ Season 2

If you found Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House to be a terrifying experience, brace yourself for the second season. Creator Mike Flanagan promises The Haunting of Bly Manor will be "much scarier than season one."

Flanagan spoke to Birth.Movies.Death about what's coming in the new season. While Netflix previously announced The Haunting of Bly Manor is based on Henry James' 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw, Flanagan revealed that the series is drawing from more than one of James' stories. He referred to The Turn of the Screw as "a jumping-off point" for Season 2's narrative.

Shenmue 3 Backer Demo Details Revealed

Today developer Ys Net revealed what will be included in the upcoming trial version of Shenmue 3 available to Kickstarter backers on PC.

Set to be ready sometime in the second half of September, the demo will be a standalone act set in Bailu Village, the first area of Shenmue 3. The Kickstarter update that made the announcement explained that there will be a central objective to complete with “lots of activities to experience” after you're done with it.

Critically, the demo is currently estimated to only be playable for one hour, though the announcement seems to indicate that will likely be enough time for the main objective and extras. Since this is a standalone act, save files will not transfer over to the final game.
