Project Resistance Hands-on: a Deadly Resident Evil Escape Room Challenge

Despite taking place in Raccoon City, you won’t find Leon Kennedy or Claire Redfield saving the day in the next Resident Evil game. Even so, there’s no denying that Project Resistance is very much ingrained into their world. Darkened corridors are riddled with zombies, obscure puzzle pieces delay your path to freedom, and all the while a sinister figure is watching your every move - a figure that just happens to be controlled by another player.

Before starting my hands-on demo with Project Resistance, Capcom made it clear that this was not so much a full product as it was still an idea - and it’s plain to see where that idea was birthed from: a touch of Dead by Daylight/Friday the 13th’s asymmetrical multiplayer, a dash of an escape room challenge gone horribly wrong, with a bit of Left 4 Dead’s focus on constantly moving between safe rooms - and don’t forget the role of an evil mastermind that feels similar to what we once saw in the now-cancelled Fable Legends. Project Resistance is all of this and more thanks, culminating in a premise that feels right at home as a Resident Evil experience.

Resident Evil 4v1 Multiplayer Spinoff ‘Project Resistance’ Revealed, Closed Beta in October

Capcom has officially revealed Project Resistance, a 4v1, asymmetrical PvP game where four players work together to escape the clutches of a player-controlled “Mastermind.” A closed beta for Project Resistance is scheduled for early October.

Similar to games like Friday the 13th and Dead by Daylight, the four “survivor” characters are controlled by players who must work together and escape three levels. All while overcoming the zombies and traps placed by a fifth player who’s playing as the Mastermind.

Gears 5: Here’s How Long It Takes To Beat The Campaign

With just about every big game, we get asked, "So how long is the story/campaign/game?" As Gears 5 releases to everyone this week, we turned to two of our editors who've finished it in order to answer that question.

Ryan McCaffrey, Reviewer

ABOVE: Check out our review of Gears 5's campaign. A final, overall review that accounts for everything included with Gears 5 is coming soon.

My first Gears 5 campaign run-through, on Intermediate difficulty, took me 11 hours and 49 minutes according to the in-game clock. I did try to do every side mission in the open-world portions of Acts II and III (and, to my knowledge, I did complete them all), and I took a quick look around every environment I found to try and find as many collectibles as possible. You can definitely make Gears 5 last longer if you're hellbent on acquiring every collectible, and of course, upping the difficulty will also stretch out your playtime.

Marvel’s Avengers DLC Heroes Won’t Be Reskins of Already Available Characters

Since its official unveiling at E3 2019, Marvel's Avengers, set for a May 15, 2020 release, has promised free DLC characters to come post-launch. And as we learned recently, Crystal Dynamics is looking to make each of those newly added characters as unique and diverse to play as the five Marvel heroes present in the base game.

Speaking to journalists after our hands-on experience of Marvel's Avengers at PAX West 2019, Crystal Dynamics' Head of Studio Scot Amos explained that characters added post-launch aren't simply going to be reskins of Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and Captain America.

You Can Now Pet the Dog in Red Dead Online

You can now pet dogs in Red Dead Online, thanks to a recent update that added a considerable amount of features, but almost certainly all less important than this one.

Observant Red Dead Redemption 2 fans might be asking themselves “wasn’t there already dog-petting in the game?” That’s correct, but only for the single-player story mode. The new feature was spotted and shared on social media by the now-infamous Can You Pet the Dog Twitter account, which catalogs video games that let you show your love for our four-legged friends.

Robin No More: Tim Drake Reveals New Superhero Name

Tim Drake, the third person to assume the role of Robin in the DC comics universe alongside Batman, officially has a new code name. Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis confirmed the new code name: “Drake.”

According to Newsarama, Bendis had teased the new code name back in Young Justice #8, when the Young Justice team took an impromptu trip to Earth-3, the former home of the Criminal Syndicate. There, the real members of Young Justice, including Tim Drake, met their evil counterparts. Conveniently enough, Tim Drake’s villainous copy called himself Drake, saying “it’s one of the most dangerous birds. It’s who I am.”
