The Office Seasons 1-2 Free on Peacock, Seasons 3-9 Under Paywall

The Office is headed to Peacock in 2021, but fans will be able to sample the series on its new home without having to fork over a monthly fee. NBCUniversal has revealed the first two seasons of the hit sitcom will be available on Peacock's free tier. Seasons 3-9 of The Office will be exclusive to Peacock Premium, which is available in ad-supported form for $4.99 per month and ad-free for $9.99 per month. Also exclusive to Peacock Premium are "Superfan Episodes," special extended cuts of various episodes from Seasons 3-9 that feature previously deleted scenes and other new footage. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=everything-coming-to-nbcuniversals-peacock&captions=true"] Peacock has revealed other The Office bonus content that will be available when the series hits Peacock on January 1, 2021. Spanish-language audio and subtitles will be included, as will various behind-the-scenes featurettes, interviews and blooper reels. Peacock will also feature themed playlists of episode clips geared around Jim's best Dwight pranks, Michael Scott's various words of wisdom and the series' most memorable romantic moments. Fans can even stream a special Office Zen channel, a continuous stream of office-related ambient noise deigned to make the workday go a little bit faster. Peacock launched in July 2020, though without The Office, which remains on Netflix until the end of 2020, or the 2020 Summer Olympics, which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those key omissions were part of the reason IGN's David Griffin gave Peacock a 6 out of 10 in his review, saying, "There’s little doubt that most, if not all of these technical and interface shortcomings will be fixed in future updates, but it’s still disappointing to see a prestigious company like NBCUniversal fail to provide some of the basic features we’ve come to expect from a modern-day streaming platform at launch." Though to be fair, Peacock was hardly the only new streaming service to struggle in 2020. Quibi has already shut down completely, and HBO Max has seen sluggish growth in its first year. However, the recent news that many 2021 Warner Bros. films will debut on HBO Max and in theaters simultaneously should give that particular service a boost. On the other hand, that surprise move has already drawn the wrath of directors and theater chains alike, with Christopher Nolan slamming HBO Max as "the worst streaming service." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/08/peacock-streaming-service-review"] In other The Office news, Netflix recently made the call to edit a episode, removing a controversial blackface scene from Season 9's "Dwight's Christmas." That edit has the support of creator Greg Daniels and is expected to carry over to Peacock's library. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jesse is a mild-mannered staff writer for IGN. The Library of Congress outlined the criteria for selection as being movies that are viewed as "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant, with the latest 25 movies bringing the total number of titles selected for preservation up to 800. This year's selections also include a record number of films directed by women and filmmakers of colour, including nine directed by women and seven by people of colour. "With the inclusion of diverse filmmakers, we are not trying to set records but rather to set the record straight by spotlighting the astonishing contributions women and people of colour have made to American cinema, despite facing often-overwhelming hurdles," Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress, said in a statement alongside the announcement. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=ranking-the-batman-movies&captions=true"] "This is not only a great honour for all of us who worked on The Dark Knight, this is also a tribute to all of the amazing artists and writers who have worked on the great mythology of Batman over the decades," added Christopher Nolan, the director of The Dark Knight, in respect of his entry into the National Film Registry this year. Following on the heels of Batman Begins, The Dark Knight quickly became one of the most hyped movies of the past decade. Helped by its amazing viral marketing campaign, the sequel quickly took on legendary status as the summer's most anticipated movie. Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Partner on Commitment to Safer Gaming

Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo have partnered together in an effort to protect the safety of their players in our connected and socially-focused world. Announced on Xbox Wire, Corporate Vice President of Xbox Operations Dave McCarthy discussed how he and the team believe that "gaming is for all people of all ages, including our youngest and most vulnerable players." However, protecting players online is not an easy task and "requires a multidisciplinary approach" that is only enhanced when working together with the likes of Nintendo and PlayStation. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/24/the-best-xbox-one-games-fall-2020-update"] "At Xbox, we are aligned with both Nintendo, on behalf of the community of Nintendo Switch players, and PlayStation in our belief that protecting players online requires a multidisciplinary approach – one that combines the benefits of advanced technology, a supportive community, and skilled human oversight," McCarthy wrote. "We can accomplish more when we work toward the same goal, and so we will each continue investing in, evolving, and amplifying our approaches to user safety. As we continue this work, we will prioritize protecting the safety of our players, especially those most vulnerable." McCarthy also discussed the principles that guide their work towards this safer future for gamers around the world, and they are as follows; Prevention: Empower players and parents to understand and control gaming experiences.
  • We provide controls that let players customize their gaming experience.  We support parents with the tools and information necessary to create appropriate gaming experiences for their children.
  • We recognize that for safety features to be useful, they must be easy to use. We will promote the availability of our safety tools through our platforms, support channels, services, on our websites and in retail stores to reach more players and parents.
  • We continually inform our parents and players through our codes of conduct, terms of use, and our enforcement practices.
  • We invest in technology to help thwart improper conduct and content before a player is subject to harm.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/24/the-best-nintendo-switch-games-fall-2020-update"] Partnership: We commit to partnering with the industry, regulators, law enforcement, and our communities to advance user safety.
  • The industry’s commitment to safety is central. We believe that we have an opportunity to collaborate for the benefit of the video game industry and all players to offer a safer gaming experience.
  • We work with industry trade organizations, industry members, regulators, law enforcement, and experts to develop and advance online safety initiatives.
  • We commit to conducting shared research for the benefit of the industry.
  • We believe that hate and harassment or exploitation of younger players in any way have no place in gaming. We partner with our community to promote safe gaming behavior and encourage the use of reporting tools to call out bad actors.
  • We partner with ratings agencies such as the ESRB and PEGI to ensure that our games are rated for the appropriate audience.
Responsibility: We hold ourselves accountable for making our platforms as safe as possible for all players.
  • We make it easy for players to report violations of our code of conduct and, in addition to removing content, we take appropriate enforcement actions for violations, including restricting players from using our services for misconduct.
  • We comply with all local laws and will respond to all lawful requests from law enforcement. We promptly notify law enforcement if we observe unlawful conduct or where we believe a player is at risk of imminent harm.
  • We publish our rules and requirements and we ensure that players who have been reported understand the requirements for continued engagement with our platforms.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-ps5-games&captions=true"] In closing, McCarthy writes that protecting players is a challenge, especially in a "digitally and often instantaneously connected world." This partnership was forged in hopes to make that battle easier won, as "no one company or industry will solve these challenges alone." This isn't the first time these companies have worked together to help create a brighter future for video games, as just last year Sony and Microsoft teamed up to improve cloud gaming and streaming platforms. The Witcher: First Day of Witchmas Asks Fans to Vote for S1 Cuts or a Surprise

UPDATE: Fans of The Witcher have been asked to choose between two "gifts" on the first day of Witchmas. The Witcher's official Twitter account posted a new poll ahead of the upcoming Witchmas celebration, which is set to take place from December 16 to December 21. The tweet offered fans the chance to vote on "cuts from The Witcher S1" or the "law of surprise" in the first poll, with the winning choice set to be revealed tomorrow together with the next gift offering and vote. "We told you the rules, now let's hear your cheers! The first day of Witchmas is here!" the tweet declared. The account warned participants to choose their rewards wisely, and presented a map of the continent in order to track the campaign's progress. The interactive map can be viewed on Netflix's official website for The Witcher, where the '6 Days of Witchmas' are all marked out ahead of the content drops that will presumably be added in association with the results from each daily vote. [poilib element="accentDivider"] ORIGINAL STORY: Fans of The Witcher have been invited to participate in Netflix's '6 Days of Witchmas' campaign, which will see highly requested content released daily on social media. The Witchmas celebration was announced on The Witcher's official Twitter account, where a thread of tweets revealed more about the holiday-themed event, which is set to begin on December 16 and end on December 21. During this period, fans will be asked to vote daily to accept a "gift" or invoke the "Law of Surprise," with the winning choice revealed the following day together with the next gift and vote. "I have acquired these gifts by searching far and wide for the 'content' that you so often request from me," The Witcher tweets explained. "You may choose to accept that gift, OR you may choose to invoke the Law of Surprise. The decision will be made as a collective, based on a vote that will be held here. The winning choice will be revealed the following day – along with a new offering and another vote." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/21/the-witcher-season-1-ending-explained"] "Choose wisely," a further tweet warned. "For my gift offers are sincere, but the Law of Surprise is out of my musically-gifted hands." Season 2 of The Witcher started filming in London earlier this year, with a planned release sometime in 2021. However, the shoot was suspended back in March as Netflix paused filming on all of its films and TV shows in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Netflix then resumed production on the Henry Cavill-led show in August after being given the "green light" to start filming again. Fans of The Witcher will probably be hoping to see some more Season 2 surprises during the upcoming Witchmas celebration, especially after previous social media drops revealed exclusive photos of Cavill's Geralt of Rivia in all-new armour, Anya Chalotra's bound and bloodied Yennefer, and Freya Allan's Ciri who looked just about ready to start her training at Kaer Morhen, per our slideshow below. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond Launches with Major Issues, Developer Promises Updates

Respawn Entertainment's first virtual reality title, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond surprise-launched during The Game Awards last week, but has since been met with player complaints and negative reviews on Steam. The developer is now working on a series of patches to address the major problems. Players have reported gameplay and performance issues with the game, including egregious loading times and glitches relating to picking up weapons and reloading them. Some expected features are also missing, like detailed graphics settings and varied locomotion options. In particular, the Steam version of the game appears to perform worse than the Oculus version, as reported by Reddit users, and an IGN staff member who is testing the game. A post on the Oculus subreddit details a few of the fixes coming to the game as part of Patch 1. These include the addition of a smooth turning locomotion option and the removal of a victory screen that appears between levels. Each mission in Above and Beyond is split up into a series of vignettes - each one ends with a fade to black and a triumphant victory screen. This is going to be cut and replaced with a victory screen at the end of each mission instead. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/11/medal-of-honor-above-and-beyond-review"] Also, instead of earning the gallery content (documentaries with real World War 2 veterans) via the story mode, all gallery content will be unlocked from the start of the game when Patch 1 lands. The note doesn't address the game's enormous 180GB file size and high system requirements, which have been another point of contention for players. "We're trying to balance the scope of each patch vs our ability to release fixes and improvements quickly," the Reddit statement reads. "I can confirm that the team is in the middle of working on implementing additional visual scaling options. We hope to get this out as soon as possible, but it won't be in the first patch. We are committed to listening to the community and trying to fix/adjust as many things as we are able to. Thank you for your continued support." We reviewed Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond upon launch, affording it a 6 and calling it "a pretty but average-at-best VR shooter." Google Services Go Down: Gmail, YouTube, Pokemon Go and More Offline [Update: Seemingly Fixed]

Update: Google services appear to be coming back online. Currently, IGN's able to access Gmail, Google Drive, YouTube, and Pokemon Go. Google reports that all services are back online. Google has not yet commented on what caused the issue. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Google appears to be suffering a major outage right now, with YouTube, Gmail, Stadia, Google Play and more all offline. Connected services, such as Pokemon Go also appear to be down. Google search appears to remain unaffected at time of writing. All Google services IGN has tested are currently returning non-specific 500 errors. IGN sister site DownDetector is showing spikes in outage reports across YouTube, Gmail, Google Drive, Stadia, and more. Those reports come both from the US and UK, indicating that this is seemingly a global problem. The issue may be connected to Google accounts in particular, as YouTube will work when no user is signed in. It can still be accessed by using an incognito window. Google-connected services also seem to be suffering. Pokemon Go appears to be a casualty of the outage, with a spike in reports. Attempting to log into the game currently returns an error - although this may be tied solely to account issues. Multiple users - including IGN staff - are also reporting that Discord is also failing to connect. PSA: Resident Evil Village Spoilers Have Seemingly Leaked

It appears that major story details have leaked for Resident Evil Village, with posts on gaming message boards, image hosts, and other social platforms spreading the news. The leak follows a recent ransomware attack on developer Capcom, although it’s currently unclear if the release of these details is directly linked to the attack. What does appear clear is that someone has acquired a development build of the game, and posted a variety of screenshots and story details. These details include the game’s ending, as well as plot threads for returning characters. The screenshots additionally reveal a variety of previously unknown enemy types. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/16/resident-evil-8-village-gameplay-trailer"] IGN will not be publishing any of these details, but we want to give you all a heads up to be careful what sites and threads you open, especially when searching for Resident Evil Village or browsing Resi communities. At this stage it’s unclear how legitimate these leaks are - the internet sure does love a hoax - but from a limited look at the assets, there is a reasonably good chance that this is indeed a genuine leak. It’s certainly something to take efforts to avoid should you wish to experience Resident Evil Village with no knowledge of the story or its surprises. Cyberpunk 2077: CD Projekt Red Apologises for Not Showing Base PS4, Xbox One Versions Before Launch

CD Projekt Red has apologised for not showing the base PS4 and Xbox One versions of Cyberpunk 2077 before launch, promised more patches, and offered refunds to those unsatisfied. In a statement on Twitter signed by senior members of the studio, the developer addressed player concerns about major issues when Cyberpunk is run on original PS4 and Xbox One consoles. "First of all," reads the statement, "we would like to start by apologizing to you for not showing the game on base last-gen consoles before it premiered and, in consequence, not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your purchase. We should have paid more attention to making it play better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One." The statement goes on to point out that console bug fixes have begun - with hotfix 1.04 released last week - with another update coming "within the next 7 days". CD Projekt says it will update "whenever new improvements are ready", with two larger patches to come in January and February. "Together these should fix the most prominent problems gamers are facing on last-gen consoles." The developer also makes clear that the PC version will also receive regular updates. After early reports around refunds began circling over the weekend, CD Projekt Red also confirmed that it will offer full refunds to console version owners who don't want to wait for the updates: "For copies purchased digitally, please use the refund system of PSN or Xbox respectively. For boxed versions, please first try to get a refund at the store where you bought the game. Should this not be possible, please contact us at helpmerefund@cdprojektred.com and we will do our best to help you. Starting from today, you can contact us for a week up until December 21st, 2020." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/cyberpunk-2077-the-funniest-glitches-and-bugs-weve-seen-so-far"] Cyberpunk 2077 has seen a decidedly mixed launch. From a business perspective, it's broken sales and concurrent players records, and made back its entire development and marketing costs before day one. But players have been vocally unhappy after major bugs across all platforms and performance problems on consoles emerged after launch. The response caused CD Projekt Red's stock price to drop sharply, and the company changed a critical reception-related bonus structure to ensure developers still received a bonus. If you're exploring Night City, we've got a huge Cyberpunk 2077 walkthrough for you, not to mention some tips to get the game looking better on console while we wait for patches. Cyberpunk 2077 Helps Steam Break Its All-Time Concurrent Player Record

Thanks in-part to the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, Steam has broken its all-time concurrent player record with a peak of 24,804,148 users. As reported by PC Gamer, this impressive number was revealed by the tracking site SteamDB and breaks the previous record of 22 million that was reached in March 2020 as more and more global stay-at-home orders and lockdowns were enacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/10/cyberpunk-2077-review-with-new-gameplay"] Alongside the success of Cyberpunk 2077, which itself broke Steam's record for concurrent players in a single game with an all-time peak of 1,054,388 users, renewed lockdowns and the onset of winter in parts of the world also surely contributed to number. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive also helped make this record possible, as its 24-hour peak, as of this writing, is 1,062,017 players. Other 24-hour peaks in this time-frame include DOTA 2's 648,889 users, Among Us' 173,021 users, and Rocket League's 121,535 users. In our Cyberpunk 2077 review, we said that it "kicks you into its beautiful and dazzlingly dense cityscape with few restrictions. It’s a shame that frustratingly frequent bugs can occasionally kill an otherwise well-set mood, but Cyberpunk 2077’s impressively flexible design makes it a truly remarkable RPG."
