Game of Thrones Prequel “Tales of Dunk and Egg” Series Reportedly in Development at HBO

HBO is developing an adaptation of “Tales of Dunk and Egg,” a Game of Thrones prequel novel, Variety reports.

The prequel series follows Ser Duncan the Tall (the titular Dunk) and Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones.

Author George R.R. Martin originally released the series as three separate novellas, with the Hedge Knight in 1998, The Sworn Sword in 2003, and The Mystery Knight in 2010. The three novellas were combined into a collected edition titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” in 2015. Fans are also eagerly waiting for news of a fourth novella.

Variety reports that no cast or crew have been hired onto the project yet, but Variety’s sources say the series is a high priority for HBO in the wake of Game of Thrones’ colossal success. Variety also reports that the series will be a standard hour-long format program. HBO is also currently readying “House of the Dragon,” another prequel series which explores the Targaryen family 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, expected to debut in 2022.

Keep in mind that just because Tales of Dunk and Egg is being developed doesn’t necessarily mean it will come to fruition. HBO previously canceled a Game of Thrones prequel project starring Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive, King Kong) earlier in 2019.

For Game of Thrones loyalists (who may or may not have been disappointed by the series finale), George R.R. Martin says he hopes to finish Winds of Winter by the end of 2021. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Joseph Knoop is a writer/producer/knight in whining armor for IGN.

Legendary has revealed a new poster for Godzilla vs. Kong in anticipation of a new trailer dropping on Sunday, January 24. This trailer will be the first full trailer for the movie released and while nobody knows exactly what's going to happen in the movie, one thing is clear: Godzilla and Kong have a bone to pick with each other. That's very apparent in the new poster Legendary revealed today, which shows Godzilla swimming toward a city seemingly under siege by Kong. Godzilla vs. Kong Poster As you can see on the poster above, it seems that by the end of this movie, either Godzilla or Kong will have fallen and it's likely we'll get a tease of this impending face-off in the first ever trailer for the movie when it's released on Sunday, January 24. This new poster comes weeks before the movie is released on March 26. It was then set for a March 21 release before it was delayed by five days to March 26 last week. Godzilla vs. Kong is a sequel to 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2017's Kong: Skull Island and stars Millie Bobbie Brown, Alexander Skarsgård, and Rebecca Hall. It was directed by Adam Wingard, who is known for horror films like You're Next, V/H/S, and Blair Witch. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=a-visual-history-of-godzilla&captions=true"] This movie's fight between its two titular monsters is what the 2014 Godzilla reboot has been building toward and it's a face-off fans have been eager to see since the first footage of Godzilla vs. Kong was released late last year. While waiting for the new trailer, check out this story about how some toy packaging might offer a sneak peek at Godzilla vs. Kong and then read about how Godzilla: King of the Monsters sets up Godzilla vs. Kong. No, A Naughty Dog Artist Didn’t Leak an Unannounced Fantasy Game

Earlier this week, fans noticed that a Naughty Dog artist had posted fantasy-medieval themed artwork that was outwardly 'inspired by a new game', leading to speculation that Naughty Dog may be working on an unannounced project in that genre. The artist has now confirmed to IGN that that is not the case, and that the artwork was inspired by Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Hyoung Nam, a senior concept artist for Naughty Dog, posted three pieces of artwork under the title "The Women of North" in November, comprising a knight sitting beside a slain dragon, a shaman-like figure with a skull headdress and staff, and a green-eyed figure wearing clothes made from animal skin and bones. The pieces were posted with a caption originally reading, "Inspire from the new game. You know what I'm talking about..." After being circulated this week, some fans and media outlets speculated that the "new game" could be an unannounced Naughty Dog project. However, speaking to IGN, Nam explained, "The illustration is not for ND's next new game," and added that this was fan art inspired by and made while the artist played Assassin's Creed Valhalla (itself released last November). Nam has now updated the caption to make clear the connection to Valhalla. While some will likely be sad – after all, a dragon-slaying, medieval-shamanic Naughty Dog fantasy game actually sounds pretty amazing – let's focus on the fact that Nam's fan art was so cool, it briefly made people imagine an entirely new game. That feels like an artistic achievement in and of itself. It's worth checking out Nam's wider portfolio on Artstation, too - particularly if you're interested in early, painterly takes on The Last of Us Part 2's many characters. As for what Naughty Dog actually has for us next, that's hard to tell. We know that there's no DLC planned for The Last of Us Part 2, but that there could still be a standalone multiplayer mode in the vein of the first game's Factions. Whatever it is, Naughty Dog has stepped up hiring, with studio co-president Neil Druckmann saying, "Come work with us! We're making something very cool!" There's also the small matter of the Last of Us TV show from HBO, which now has a series order, and a new director. WizKids has several miniature collections planned for release, including two monsters of Wildemount (the setting of Critical Role's current campaign) sets, each costing $60. The first set includes pre-painted monsters like the frog-like Nergaliid and the Husk Zombie, among others, while the second set of pre-painted figures brings together the likes of the Swavain Basilisk and the Sahuagin Warlock of Uk'otoa. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=wizkids-critical-role-exandria-themed-miniature-collection-slideshow&captions=true"] Additionally an Udraak premium figure will be available on its own for $80. Meanwhile, players can also pick up several new Factions of WIidemount packs, each of which costs $50. And in 2019,Critical Role team created a record-breaking Kickstarter that has now led to a Critical Role animated series coming to Amazon Prime. The team also furthered its philanthropy with a new fundraising organization, Critical Role Foundation, and announced the continuation of Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins, the comic book series based on Campaign I. And if you want to explore even more of Critical Role beyond the company's weekly shows, you can also dive into the official Dungeons and Dragons Explorer's Guide to Wildemount book.
