EA: PS4 Neo, Xbox Scorpio ‘Absolutely’ Great for Industry

Electronic Arts is very excited about Sony and Microsoft's forthcoming console upgrades, according to company executive Peter Moore.

When asked whether or not the hardware revisions we're seeing with Xbox Scorpio and PlayStation 4 Neo are good for the industry, EA's Chief Competition Officer responded with a definitive "absolutely" on the latest episode of IGN Unfiltered, which airs next Tuesday.

Moore said there was "huge excitement the moment they were announced," highlighting the fact that "it extends console generations" and may bring forth a time when we no longer have traditional hardware launches like we've seen in prior generations.

Mutant Mudds Dev Renegade Kid Shuts Down

After working together for 10 years at Renegade Kid, co-founders Jools Watsham and Gregg Hargrove have decided to go their separate ways and close down the studio.

According to an announcement from the studio, Watsham will continue to develop games at his new company Atooi, while Hargrove will go on to make games at his new studio Infitizmo. The closure of Renegade Kid was a "difficult decision" for Watsham and Hargrove, whose parting of ways is said to be on good terms.

All of Renegade Kid's 2D titles, including the critically acclaimed Mutant MuddsMutant Mudds Deluxe and Treasurenauts, will be owned by Atooi. Meanwhile, Infitizmo will acquire the rights to the 3D games, including the Dementium franchise and Moon Chronicles, the latter of which is a 3DS-exclusive remake of the hit 2009 DS game Moon.

HBO's latest trailer for Westworld is the most rounded - and extremely chilling - look at its upcoming sci-fi series yet.

Its primary focus is the tension between Anthony Hopkins' Dr. Robert Ford, the creative director of Westworld,  and Evan Rachel Wood's Dolores Abernathy, a woman coming to terms with her lack of humanity. Check it out below.

Based on the 1973 movie of the same name, Westworld is set in a Western-themed park populated by life-like robots. Its stellar cast is rounded out by Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, Shannon Woodward, Jimmi Simpson and Thandie Newton, and it premieres on Sunday, October 2nd at 9pm on HBO.

From Near Bankruptcy to Zelda: Twilight Princess HD

When Tom Crago joined the Melbourne-based Tantalus at the turn of the century, it was on the verge of collapse. With a small Game Boy Advance deal as its only means of revenue and a hefty figure owed to the tax department due to a “self-prescribed sabbatical” on payments, Crago was volunteering himself as CEO of a technology company that was basically insolvent. Very few would roll the dice on such a shaky gamble.

Crago, however, was driven and most importantly, young. He had come from Adelaide-based development studio Ratbag where he had worked primarily as director of development straight out of university, and was hungry - in that foolhardy, 25-years-old way - for opportunities to use his business smarts to leverage undiscovered talent.

Pokemon Go Ported To The Dreamcast VMU

Don't have a phone that can reliably support Pokemon Go? A used Sega Dreamcast with a portable Visual Memory Unit may just be the lifehack you need!

As spotted on Instagram (via Ars Techina), a VMU coder by the online name guacasaurus_mex is behind the project. Though the little memory card obviously has no GPS or augmented reality camera, guacasaurus_rex says his port will have a "randomly generated map grid in place of GPS functionality and timing based mini game to throw Pokeballs".

Don’t Breathe Topples Suicide Squad at the Box Office

Sony's new horror film Don't Breathe had an incredibly successful opening weekend, debuting in first place at the domestic box office with $26.1 million.

As noted by Variety, the film has already earned more than double its $10 million production budget and dethroned Suicide Squad, as Warner Bros.' comic book flick slipped to second place with $12.1 million after holding the top spot for three weeks in a row.

"This film is going to be a big moneymaker for us," Sony distribution chief Rory Bruer said of Don't Breathe's successful opening weekend. "We knew we had something special here. This is a film that’s all about keeping people jumping out of their seats and holding on to the person next to them."

The Tennessee Titans Love Super Smash Bros.

It's the time of year when most NFL teams are narrowing their focus to one thing: the opening of the 2016-2017 football season. However, the Tennessee Titans, who play their first game Sunday, September 11, are giving themselves room to focus on another brutal competition: Super Smash Bros.

The N64 classic that started it all has become an obsession of the team, according to an article from The Ringer.

"On any given day, four Titans players can be found playing the game," the article states. Behind each smashing Titan stand teammates, waiting for next.

The impetus for the Tennessee Smashfest came when summer renovations of the team's training facility saw the removal of TVs and PlayStations from the locker room. That's when 2014 first-round draft pick Taylor Lewan brought in his Nintendo 64 and set it up.
