The film brought in more than $400 million in revenue worldwide and garnered $300.3 million domestically — holding the number one spot for two consecutive weeks. The success sparked the announcement of the sequel, which is slated for a July 13, 2018, debut.

The first film debuted July 8. In IGN's The Secret Life of Pets review, we graded it a 7 out of 10 for its beautiful imagery and pet dynamics. However, we felt the film was more a collection of funny scenes than a well-composed story.
