Blizzard Launching Community Council for World of Warcraft
Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject.Blizzard is in the process of launching a player-led Community Council for World of Warcraft, which will allow more direct communication between the MMOs developers and its players.
As revealed on the World of Warcraft website, the Community Council is being set up with the goal of making the voice of all WoW players heard. Applications to join the council are now open, and part of the process requires stating your areas of interest and expertise within World of Warcraft. This is to ensure the developers hear from a cross section of players across casual, hardcore, competitive, and other gameplay styles.
"Player feedback impacts all aspects of the game, and with such a wide range of opinions, playstyles, and interests out there, gathering and understanding feedback is more important than ever," said the World of Warcraft Community Team in the announcement. "To help further our efforts in this area, we’re introducing the WoW Community Council. This program will add another venue for communication between players and WoW developers. Our goal is to gather more detailed feedback on all aspects of World of Warcraft from players around the world with a wide range of backgrounds and interests."
The announcement explains that the Council will have access to a new forum, which will feature topics started by Blizzard developers and share experiences from council members. Responses from the devs will be posted in those forums, which will be viewable by the entire community. Additionally, private discussion channels will be available for Council members to discuss topics between themselves, and direct interaction between members and Blizzard staff will be "encouraged".
Community councils such as this are not uncommon, particularly among games with high populations. However, at 17 years old, it's surprising that Blizzard has only just decided to implement the idea in its MMO, which at one point was the most dominant game in the genre.

Skyrim Board Game Includes a Prequel to the Original RPG
RPG and tabletop publisher Modiphius Entertainment is creating a Skyrim board game that will include a sequel to the original RPG.
As detailed in an article by Polygon, the upcoming co-operative tabletop game will include two campaigns, each with three chapters. In an interview with the outlet, game designer Juan Echenique explained that fans embarking on the first of those campaigns will be able to take part in events that pre-date the narrative set out in its video game counterpart.
“The first campaign is 25 years before [the events of the video game],” said Echenique. “So you get to meet some of the [non-player characters] from Skyrim, but 25 years before when they were a young adventurer and then they take an arrow to the knee — and that happens!"
While finally uncovering the mystery behind that famous - albeit somewhat overused - stock NPC line is sure to peak the attention of Skyrim fans across the community, campaign two is also sure to turn a number of heads as fans will encounter Skyrim's famous Dragonborn from the perspective of other characters in Tamriel.
"The second campaign starts before the arrival of the Dragonborn, and then ends after the arrival of the Dragonborn," said Echenique. "So you get to see all the events that the Dragonborn causes. You’ll cross paths with the Dragonborn — they’re just a different character — and it’s really fun to watch that from afar.”
Aptly named Skyrim - The Adventure Game, Modiphius Entertainment's tabletop experience is currently slated for release next year, with the company's current planned schedule expecting orders to be fulfilled in August 2022.
As previously mentioned, Skyrim - The Adventure Game will form a cooperative experience for 1-5 players who will need to work together in order to complete quests and challenges thrown at them by the game. Sessions should take between 60-90 minutes and players are able to choose their character's race from a selection of those from the Elder Scrolls video game series (Altmer, Dunmer, Imperial, Khajiit, Nord, and Orsimer).
The project is currently being crowdfunded on Gamefound where fans looking to reserve their own copy can choose from three different tier options. These range from an initial tier including the tabletop's base game to more lucrative pledges that include subsequent expansions and additional luxury items.

Honor of Kings: World Is a Gorgeous Open-World Spin-Off From One of China’s Biggest Games
Tencent and TiMi Studio Group have announced Honor of Kings: World, a gorgeous open-world game that features vibrant, colourful graphics and cool monster fights. You can check out the trailer below.
Honor of Kings: World has its roots in one of China's biggest games, the mobile MOBA Honor of Kings. With 100 million daily users, it's one of the biggest games in the world, but is largely unheard of in the west. But developer TiMi Studio Group plans to bring Honor of Kings to the rest of the world, but this time "reimagined" as an AAA action RPG set in an open world. The trailer definitely gives off Monster Hunter and action RPG vibes, which is no bad thing.
Planned for release on "multiple platforms", Honor of Kings: World will see a worldwide release. Very little is known about the game so far, but TiMi Studio Group has offered a rough description of what we can expect.
"To uncover ancient secrets hidden in the whisper of wind, cross paths with a diverse cast of lovable characters, create your own story alongside the living legends of different schools of thought in the Jixia Academy, or delve into the wondrous scenery of the Chang'an city where magic and technology converge ..." reads a post on the game's Facebook page.
As revealed on the game's Chinese Weibo account, Honor of Kings: World is being developed in collaboration with author Liu Cixin, who previously wrote The Three-Body Problem (which is currently being adapted for Netflix.)
As noted by Kotaku, the game may be in development at TiMi's new Montreal studio, which recently announced that it is working on "a AAA open world, service-focused video game for players to explore across multiple platforms."
With its flashy trailer, Honor of Kings: World joins Black Myth: WuKong as one of the most interesting games being developed in China. The country has made a huge impact in the gaming space recently with Genshin Impact, which has quickly risen to the status of one of the biggest games in the world.

Dubium Announced
Startup game developer Mumo Studio – whose founders have resumes that include games like Black Desert Online and Dead to Rights – has announced Dubium, a new five-player social deduction multiplayer game for PC via Steam Early Access in 2022.
Gameplay, as the studio describes it, should sound familiar to Among Us fans: "Players take on the role of Frontier or Traitor and must escape from an abandoned space station by any means necessary. Frontiers will cooperate to repair solar panels that power the escape pod while trying to uncover the identity of the sole Traitor. Players must not relax until they escape; the Traitor will sabotage the Frontiers’ efforts at every step as they try to complete their own mission. The Traitor needs to hide their identity and use deceit and treachery to take the Frontiers out one by one in order to escape the station unopposed."
A key obvious difference between Among Us and Dubium, though, is certainly the presentation. While Among Us has its own cartoony look, Dubium aims for a much higher production value, though its visual style could certainly still be described as cartoony.
Gadgets are upgradeable during matches, a Twitch extension is built-in so as to try and make Dubium a streamer-friendly game, and you can sign up for a future closed beta test on the official website and see more on the Steam page.

New World Disables Wealth Transfers Following Gold Exploit
Amazon Games has disabled all forms of wealth transfers in its popular MMO New World following an exploit that was found in the game allowing players to duplicate gold as well as post images to the game's global chat and crash other players' games.
An update post published on New World's forums detailed the actions that the studio is implementing in wake of the issue.
"We are aware of a possible gold duplication exploit that has been circling and we are temporarily disabling all forms of wealth transfer between players," reads a statement from one of the game's Community Managers. "Any player that has engaged in the use of this exploit will be actioned against," the post states before going on to confirm that the developer is working hard on a fix.
Disabling all forms of wealth transfers in the game may sound like a pretty extreme step from the developer but it's definitely one way to ensure that the studio has control over the situation while it investigates the problem further.
The forum's initial statement did not specify exactly what action would be taken against players participating in the duplication of gold, however, a subsequent post has since outlined this more clearly stating that the studio will be "banning individuals who were using [the exploit]."
Gold duplication aside, the studio has provided fixes that should prevent players from exploiting other factors within the game including the use of the text chat to post images and crash other players' games.
"We discovered an issue where players were able to post images and other links in the chat that resulted in unsavory behaviour," reads a separate forum post published by the studio last week. "We have enabled a fix that should resolve this issue and prevent players from abusing and exploiting this feature."
While Amazon Games works on ensuring that players aren't able to duplicate gold in New World, it isn't the first time that the game has faced issues with currency since launch. Last month, IGN reported that New World was being affected by a deflationary currency crisis that had led some players to enact a barter economy within the game's servers.

Stephen King’s The Boogeyman Getting Film Adaptation From Host Director Rob Savage
Host director Rob Savage is set to adapt Stephen King's short story The Boogeyman for Hulu and 20th Century Studios.
According to Deadline, The Boogeyman adaptation was originally developed by 21 Laps as a Fox film but has since shifted to Hulu for distribution. Now that things are moving forward again, production on the two-hour feature film is expected to begin either this winter or next spring in New Orleans, though the project does not yet have a release date.
Once the cameras start rolling, Savage will be in the director's seat, with 21 Laps' Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Dan Cohen producing. They'll be working from a script written by Black Swan's Mark Heyman, based on original drafts by Akela Cooper together with A Quiet Place duo Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who are both also executive producing the project.
The Boogeyman was first published in an issue of Cavalier magazine in 1973, before making its way into Stephen King's Night Shift collection in 1978 alongside several of his other short stories. The Boogeyman centers around a man's visit to a psychiatrist's office where he recounts the gruesome ways in which his wife and children were killed by a sadistic presence.
The upcoming film adaptation seems to be taking a slightly different approach to the story, with the official logline reading as follows: "Still reeling from the tragic death of their mother, a teenage girl and her little brother find themselves plagued by a sadistic presence in their house and struggle to get their grieving father to pay attention before it's too late."
Savage became one of the most talked-about directors in the horror world last year following the release of Host. He returned this year with the Blumhouse thriller Dashcam, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. IGN's review of Dashcam called it "sloppy, soulless, and sickening" in comparison to 2020's Zoom-based horror hit.

Jumbo Jets Airlifting PS5 Stock Into the UK in Time for Christmas
PlayStation 5 consoles are being airlifted into the UK in time for Christmas, with three full jumbo jets arriving in the UK over the last two weeks, and another two planned for later in November.
PS5s have been in increasingly short supply in the UK this year, but it seems Sony has started to take extra precautions to ensure more gamers can have access to the new console before the end of the year.
According to the report by The Sun, Boeing 747 jets have been touching down in London ready to ship the consoles across the UK.
"A phenomenal operation has been underway to stock UK shelves of PS5s for Christmas," a Sony source told The Sun. They also said that Sony "just wants to keep fans happy".
"The 747 plane is rare after being decommissioned by British Airways, but carries a vast amount of cargo as a freighter aircraft," the source added.
"Each plane can bring in 100 tonnes of equipment on almost 50 pallets. It means millions of gamers will now be smiling this Christmas."
In May, Sony CFO Hiroki Tokoi claimed during an earnings call that the company is expecting PS5s to remain in limited supply throughout next year. In that same month, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang echoed these thoughts, with supply shortages for the RTX 30 series to last until "the second half of this year."
Despite these apparent supply issues, Sony has still managed to sell 13.4 million PS5s worldwide, making it the fastest-selling PlayStation console ever.

Boondocks 3 Confirmed With Original Cast And Director
The Boondock Saints are returning to their righteous vigilante ways. Deadline reports that director Troy Duffy is teaming up once again with actors Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery for a third film that follows the twin Irish brothers on a mission to kill criminals and evildoers.
The script is being written by series creator Duffy, along with Flanery, and with input from Reedus. Filming will begin next May, when Flanery completes work on Amazon's The Boys and when Reedus completes work on The Walking Dead's final season. Producing Boondock Saints 3 will be Shaun Redick (Get Out, Black KkKlansman) and Yvette Yates Redick.
The Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day released back in 2009, a whole decade after the original. When we last visited the MacManus brothers, they were imprisoned after surviving a deadly ambush by hired hitmen. It's later revealed that Willem Dafoe's Special Agent Smecker, originally thought to have died sometime between the events of the first two films, is secretly in hiding and aiding the Saints with their mission. Boondock Saints 3 will pick up from there.
Specific plot details about Boondock Saints 3 remain a mystery, but producer Yvette Yates Redick suggests that even people who've never watched the first two will be "blown away" by the third.
Duffy's last project was in fact The Boondock Saints 2, and production on the sequel has reportedly been troubled over the years. Flanery originally tweeted in 2017 that he and Reedus were no longer working on Boondock Saints 3 due to disagreements, but at some point Flanery and Duffy reconnected and began working on a new script.
Duffy stated that the sequel will shift focus away from Boston mafia villains to corrupt politicians.
“Where we’re going is, the brothers are older,” Duffy said. “They are coming out into a brand new world that is not like the one they left. They are at odds. One wants to continue, the other doesn’t. There’s a new enemy out there, not like the traditional ones they’ve faced. That’s the thing that is timely about this one.”
The original Boondock Saints films was a notorious box office failure, partially due to unfortunate timing alongside the Columbine high school shooting, which left 12 students and one teacher dead. With gun violence newly in Americans' minds, a particularly violent and gunridden film like Boondock Saints failed to gain traction with media executives.
Though it failed spectacularly at the box office and received a 28% on Rotten Tomatoes, its subsequent DVD release saw it skyrocket to cult classic status. Deadline reports that the hope with Boondock Saints 3 is to build a far-reaching cinematic franchise ala John Wick.

Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies Won’t Include Main Quest At Launch
While Call of Duty: Vanguard will include a Zombies mode on release day, players can't try out the main quest until sometime after season one's launch. Treyarch announced that the main quest won't be part of Vanguard's November 5 release or the start of season one on December 2. Instead, new Zombies content will start rolling out as part of the game's first season, with the main quest coming at a later time.
"Starting on December 2nd, new Zombies content & features will begin to roll out in Vanguard," Treyarch said. "Players will also encounter some other surprise elements later in Season One that will set the stage for our upcoming Main Quest.
The main quest will apparently be tied to "the arrival of an unexpected ally after Season One". We don't know exactly when that means the main quest will drop. We just got a look at the Call of Duty: Vanguard roadmap, which spells out the game plan from launch through the start of season one.
While Sledgehammer is developing the bulk of Vanguard, Treyarch is handling the Zombies mode. Recently, Treyarch has been very busy with Call of Duty, leading development on 2018's Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and 2020's Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War..
Vanguard isn't the only upcoming first-person shooter adding in major content after launch. Halo Infinite, which launches next month, is shipping without campaign co-op or Forge at launch. Similar to today's Vanguard Zombies news, both features will come to Halo sometime after season 1.
