Studio Boss on BvS Darkness Backlash

The release of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer in April was met with some enthusiasm, sure. However, many criticized the dark themes, lighting, and overall stifling seriousness.

Add in the weightiness of 2013's Man of Steel and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, and it appears Warner Bros. and DC are looking to be the infrared to Marvel Cinematic Universe's bouncy, colorful, and often humorous ultraviolet.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Film Chief Alan Silverman was asked about whether the darkness in the BvS trailer is a DC Universe trademark.

Warner Bros. on Wonder Woman Female Director and Writers Strategy

President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production at Warner Bros. Pictures Greg Silverman recently explained the process behind choosing writers and a director for the upcoming Wonder Woman film.

The Hollywood Reporter asked the Warner Bros. film chief about the importance of having a woman direct Wonder Woman, given the ongoing debate regarding a lack of female directors in studio films. Here's what Silverman had to say: "We had a very intensive process looking at everybody. Patty

and Michelle

were really the ones who came to the forefront the first go-round, so when things didn't work out with Michelle, we all knew we had someone great who had expressed interest before. She came back and is doing a great job. But it was never about the best female director. She has demonstrated doing amazing work with female characters, such as in

Rumor: Martin Freeman Connects Age of Ultron with Civil War

Remember in Avengers: Age of Ultron where Klaw (Andy Serkis) is on the phone and, after threatening to send a missile where the sun doesn't shine, says "Now, Minister, where were we?"

The "minister" in question might end up being Edward Chase, Prime Minister of England in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to Latino Review.

The website also claims Chase might be a villain, pressured into action against the Avengers after numerous British soldiers are injured near the start of Civil War.

Last month, IGN reported that Martin Freeman will be in Captain America: Civil War, though we were not sure what his role will be. There are rumors that Freeman will be in both Civil War and the Black Panther movie, possibly as US State Department Official Everett K. Ross, who's a Wakanda expert from the comics -- which could explain why he was on the other end of that phone call with Klaw in Age of Ultron.
